Celebrities for Star Wars Weekends 2009 Announced – Jay Laga’aia (Captain Typho) to Host

SWW 2009 PosterTime to start planning for Star Wars Weekends! Starting in May, fans get to meet an impressive lineup of special guests attending four weekends of Star Wars fun at the Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida. From May 22 to June 14, 2009, fans of all ages will converge to celebrate the heroes, villains, creatures and droids of the saga. In addition to Star Wars costumed characters, fun activities, and the Star Tours theme park ride, celebrity guests will be in attendance for meet-and-greet sessions, star conversations, and a classic Hollywood-style motorcade.

Here’s a look at the celebrity guests which include Star Wars cast members from the entire saga. Please check back here for future updates to the guest list as it may be subject to change.

ABC Family Secures Network Premiere Rights to G-Force, Christmas Carol and Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Burbank, CA (April 9, 2009) – ABC Family has acquired a slate of theatricals including several network television premieres as part of an agreement with Disney-ABC Domestic Television. The network will air the network television premieres of the Walt Disney Pictures 3-D films “G-Force,” from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, in theaters this summer, and “A Christmas Carol,” starring Jim Carrey, to be released in theaters this November. The package also includes the network television premiere of “Beverly Hills Chihuahua,” and second position windows for the studio’s two recent films, “Race to Witch Mountain” and “Bedtime Stories.”

“Beverly Hills Chihuahua” is tentatively scheduled to make its network television premiere on ABC Family in 2010, “G-Force” in 2011 and “A Christmas Carol” in 2012. “Bedtime Stories” and “Race to Witch Mountain” will both tentatively mark their runs on the network in 2012.

Disney Fans Create Wall*E Computer Case, Snow White Laptop

Wall-E Computer CaseWhen he’s not picking up your garbage, he’s processing it. A Russian engineer handcrafted this entire Wall*E computer case out of metal over eighteen days. Although the original site appears to be unavailable, you can see detailed images of the entire creation process archived here instead.

ESPN Targets Chicago Sports Fans with New Website

CHICAGO, April 9 (Reuters) – ESPN will launch a website dedicated to the Chicago market on Monday in an effort to reach more fans and generate more revenue from local advertisers, after more than 10 years on the radio in the Windy City.

“This is our first entrance into the local marketplace,” Marc Horine, ESPN’s vice president of digital media, said on Thursday.

“We thought the time was right to go beyond just the local radio station website,” he added. “We have no immediate plans to move beyond Chicago; (but) we’re looking at this as an incubator.”

Downtown Disney’s ‘Characters in Flight’ Scheduled for Soft Opening Friday, April 10

Characters In FlightThe fun soars to new heights at Downtown Disney West Side with an iconic new tethered balloon that takes guests on ascents of up to 400 feet above the waterfront.

Characters In Flight operated by Aerophile is a 72-foot-diameter balloon with a whimsical design featuring silhouettes of a dozen of Disney’s “flying characters” – such as Mary Poppins, Peter Pan and Dumbo. The vibrantly colored balloon can lift up to 30 guests at a time on a six-minute trip – thanks to its enclosed volume of 210,000 cubic feet of lighter-than-air gas. The ascents, by day or night, provide guests with an unparalleled, 360-degree view of up to 10 miles.

Guests board a gondola beneath the 105-foot-high balloon from a landing platform on Village Lake at the end of the main promenade at Downtown Disney West Side. Riders can catch flights seven days a week. Hours Sunday-Thursday are 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m. while ascents Friday-Saturday are 10:30 a.m.-midnight. Tickets ($16 for ages 10-up and $10 for ages 3-9) can be purchased on site. Availability is on first-come, first-serve basis.

A soft opening is scheduled to begin Friday, April 9 as per the Walt Disney World resort.

Product Recall: CARS Fleece Clog Children’s Shoes Sold at Wal-mart

Cars Shoe Recall“CARS” Children’s Shoes Sold Exclusively at Wal-Mart Recalled by Pagoda International Footwear Ltd. Due to Choking Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: CARS Fleece Clog Children’s Shoes

Units: About 73,000 distributed in the United States and 18,000 distributed in Canada

Importer: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark.

Distributor: Pagoda International Footwear Ltd., of Hong Kong

Hazard: The shoe has four decorative wheels that can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a decorative wheel detaching from the shoe. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Buster Brown & Co. “CARS” fleece clog children’s shoes. The shoe is a red plastic molded clog with fleece lining and is designed to resemble a car. They were sold in infant sizes 4 to 6 and toddler sizes 7 to 11. The infant-size shoes have a strap in the back. Each side of the shoe has two red and black decorative wheels and the number “95”. “Buster Brown & Co.” and “Disney” are printed on a tag sewn inside the shoe.

Sold exclusively at: Wal-Mart stores in the United States and Canada from September 2008 through March 2009 for between $6 and $10 (U.S.) and for about $13 (CAN).

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Customers should immediately take this product away from children and return it to the nearest Wal-Mart store for a full refund.
