The New York Post reported earlier today that Disney Theatrical Productions is quietly working on a new Broadway musical based on the 1941 Disney animated classic Dumbo.
According to the article, Broadway director Stephen Daldry was approached for the project and was in talks prior to things breaking down and that the production company is continuing its search for a director to help bring Dumbo to the stage.
In a banner year of creative leadership, strong ratings and a growth trajectory, Disney Channels Worldwide today presented to U.S. advertisers its 2010-11 programming highlights for Disney Channel and Disney XD, platforms and entertainment content that connects with hundreds of millions of kids, tweens and families.
Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, presented several new and returning Disney XD and Disney Channel projects. AMC Theatres® (AMC), a leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment company, today announces that guests will be able to see movies in a new, entirely superior fashion when the AMC Enhanced Theatre Experience (ETXTM) makes its U.S. debut on March 5 at AMC Pleasure Island 24 at Downtown Disney® Area at the Walt Disney World® Resort.
ETX includes a 20-percent larger screen, 3D technology, digital projection and an upgraded sound system. Specifically, the digital projection system produces images comprised of 2 million pixels, which delivers a higher resolution than HD. This eye-popping image is then showcased on a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen that immerses guests in the image.
FAO Schwarz, currently the exclusive location to purchase an official Muppet Whatnot (until the Whatnot locations come to the US theme parks), has now begun selling the outfits individually for $19.99 each. Previously, only a single outfit was able to be purchased during the actual Whatnot creation.
Unfortunately, searching for whatnot or muppets on the site simply takes you to the creation process right now, so there’s no easy way to locate the outfits, but if you search for Disney, you’ll find all the outfits. There’s also a garment bag currently being sold for $5 (marked down from $19.99).
The Disney domain elves were hard at work yesterday, registering every possible combination involving the words ‘the movie.’ Many appear to be titles that Disney will distribute for DreamWorks, but others are literally screaming out future (or current) Disney projects.
Alphabetically speaking, ANT-MAN-THEMOVIE.COM comes first. Immediately rumored to have been the first Pixar project since the acquisition, Stan Lee mentioned last month on his twitter that Marvel was moving forward with the project which had been in the works for some time.
Also it appears Tow Mater is having some thoughts about exploring the final frontier. Lunar Mater (LUNARMATER.COM), Moon Mater (MOONMATER.COM) and Right Stuff Mater (RIGHTSTUFFMATER.COM) have all been registered. We also have Mater PI (MATERPI.COM) and Investigator Mater (INVESTIGATORMATER.COM) so it appears some new Cars Toons may be on the way.
Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) is proud to support International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to provide veterinary care and vaccinations for animals in the wake of a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti. IFAW and the World Society for the Protection of Animals are jointly leading the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), working with more than a dozen of the world’s leading animal protection organizations to aid as many animals as possible.
Funding will provide the ARCH team with medical supplies and equip a “mobile clinic” that is delivering emergency care for injured animals and administering vaccinations to prevent outbreaks of diseases such as rabies. Click here to watch a short video about IFAW’s relief efforts.
