Burbank, CA – Francia Raisa (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) and Brendan Fehr (“Samurai Girl,” “Roswell”) have signed to star in the ABC Family and MGM Television original production “The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice.” The two-hour original movie will begin principal photography this month in Montreal, Canada, and is set to premiere on ABC Family in spring 2010. “The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice” marks the fourth installment of the successful franchise produced by MGM Television.
In “The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice,” Francia Raisa reprises her role as Alexandra “Alex” Delgado (“The Cutting Edge: Chasing the Dream”), whose figure skating career came to an abrupt halt after her partner (on and off the ice) became injured. As their love affair cooled, a heart-broken Alex stopped competing and turned to teaching. Enter James Van Behr (Brendan Fehr), the smoldering bad boy of speed skating, who has had fiery Alex in his sights as a skating partner ever since he was banned from speed skating. There aren’t many girls who say no to James – Alex may well be the first. However, James pushes her buttons, challenging her like no one else – and her fighting spirit returns. She agrees to partner, and they begin a grueling practice regimen fueled (and occasionally derailed) by their own tempestuous relationship that heats up as they get closer to competition. But will their passion destroy Alex’s chance to bring home the gold again?
The movie is directed by Stephen Herek (“Picture This!,” “Rock Star,” “Mr. Holland’s Opus”) and is written by Holly Brix. It will be executive produced by the MGM team of Craig Roessler, Sara Berrisford and Hudson Hickman.
As if the reasons for visiting Rafiki’s Planet Watch weren’t numerous enough, Out of the Wild, the area’s gift shop is now offering Adopt-A-Nest packages from Disney’s Vero Beach resort.
Up until now, the offer has been available exclusively at the Vero Beach Resort, but now guests at Walt Disney World have the opportunity to adopt their own sea turtle nest while benefitting sea turtle conservation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF).
For the adoption fee of $50, guests will receive a Squirt plush toy (from Finding Nemo); a Disney Worldwide Conservation Hero Button; and an adoption certificate that lists the species of turtle and location of the nest. Guests can use their certificate number to track their nest’s success and possible hatchings on DisneyConservation.com. All proceeds go directly to the DWCF and sea turtle conservation efforts in Florida.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., July 31, 2009 – For most guests, a trip to Walt Disney World Resort is synonymous with a vacation. But for two talented teens from Boston, their visit seemed more like biology lab than summer break.
Shreya, 12, and Marco, 14, traveled to Walt Disney World with their parents and a video crew to tape two segments for the hit PBS television series FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman. The program features an animated dog called Ruff who helps teach real world science by challenging his fellow cast members and viewers to ask questions, conduct experiments and investigate the world around them.
With Disney’s Animal Kingdom as their backdrop, the TV crew focused on Disney’s Animal Programs and the science associated with caring for approximately 7,000 birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects. Animal experts — including veterinarians, animal keepers, researchers and conservation biologists — explained the complex systems such as a veterinary hospital, scientific laboratories, nutrition center and more, required to care for the animals.
During one challenge, Marco and Shreya shadowed the veterinary team as they conducted an annual health examination on a 30-year-old siamang, which is an ape native to Asia. They also were able to feed the crocodiles along Kilimanjaro Safari and provide enrichment treats such as peppermint and pumpkin pie spices to the tigers along Maharaja Jungle Trek.
FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman is produced by WGBH Boston and may be seen in select local markets and online at pbskids.org/go/video.
