Event Hails Opening Weekend of “Race to Witch Mountain”
As Disney Launches Exciting “Opening Weekend Surprise” Program

BURBANK, Calif. (March 16) – Dwayne Johnson, star of Walt Disney Pictures’ “Race to Witch Mountain,” this weekends No. 1 film at the box office, surprised audiences at a San Diego movie theater when he made a personal appearance on the first day of the film’s release, Friday, March 13. In addition to greeting the moviegoers at the AMC Mission Valley theater, Johnson gave every member of the audience two free passes to Disneyland! Appearing with Johnson were the film’s director, Andy Fickman, and producer, Andrew Gunn.

‘Re-Imagineering’ Disney’s California Adventure

The latest sign of expansion and “re-Imagineering” in Disney’s California Adventure park is the new illuminated “Paradise Pier” sign on the “California Screamin’” roller coaster. Installed overnight between Thursday and Friday, March 12 and 13, the sign reflects the “vintage Disney” themeing that is part of the Disney’s California Adventure expansion. It was designed in the style of beachfront amusement park signs from the 1920s and ’30s, the era when Walt Disney first arrived in Hollywood and begin producing animated cartoons. As the “re-Imagineering” continues at Disney’s California Adventure this spring, the ferris wheel attraction will reopen as “Mickey’s Fun Wheel” and the Games of the Boardwalk will reopen in completely new versions featuring Disney characters.

Race to Fickman’s Next Project

According to Variety, Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman has been attached to Disney’s adaptation of the graphic novel Monster Attack Network.  The FX-driven movie will center on an elite government agency dedicated to protecting America’s borders from monsters.

The film will be written by Scott Elder and Josh Harmon who have also written Disney’s upcoming Snow and the Seven.

One Man’s D23…

Disney Snowglobes has a few photos of a D23 exhibit set up in the One Man’s Dream exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. One thing that caught my eye was the series of D23 portraits featuring Disney characters such as the Jiminy Cricket one that was first shown to the world exclusively by Stitch Kingdom. In addition to Jiminy (Wishes Come True) and Bandleader Mickey (Made for You and Me), the portraits include Cinderella’s glass slipper (Perfect Fit), the Mad Hatter (Your Cup of Tea), Dopey (Speechless), Tinker Bell (Think of the Happiest Things) and 101 Dalmations (Hits the Spot).

The action hero superstar of Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille, Remy, currently appears in amatronic form at Les Chefs De France located in Epcot’s World Showcase. He made his debut March 8 and is expected to hang around the kitchen for at least six months. Remy, the not-so-silent fourth partner in the restaurant, greets his guests daily at lunch until approximately 6 pm.

Previously, Remy entertained invités at the Walt Disney Studios Park at the Disneyland Paris Resort. Here’s a video of an appearance by Remy courtesy of our friends at DLP fan site PhotosMagiques.

If you’re considering dining at Les Chefs, may I recommend the poulet? It tastes like chicken.

Tampa Gets the Buc out of Orlando

Tampa Bay Online is reporting confirmation (but no official word as of yet) that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be moving their training camp to Tampa beginning this year, ending a seven year run at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
