LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., March 4, 2009 – Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests will get a “leap” on this weekend’s time change with a series of frog-focused activities reminding them to set their clocks ahead.

To celebrate the beginning of daylight saving time, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will kick off a series of events, Thursday March 5, just before the semi-annual clock change. Activities include a frog-leap that challenges children to see if they can jump as far as frogs and a special frog-calling game where guests match the frog to the corresponding “ribbit.”  Frog “wannabes” may also don “frog-wear” with goggles to model transparent amphibian eyelids, mesh vests to represent permeable skin and special suction-cupped gloves to demonstrate frogs unique feet.  Read more…

Thanks to a tip from a Distant Creations reader, I was able to get my hands on a copy (or two, actually) of Disney twenty-three magazine, the companion guide to the new Disney 23 Official Community for Disney Fans, or the ‘Disney affinity club,’ as CEO Bob Iger recently referred to it.

First Impressions: First of all, I hesitate to call this a magazine. It’s not at all what might first come to one’s mind at the thought. No, this is actually more of a timely coffee table book. With 62 pages of content, this quarterly periodical packs in plenty of full color photos (when available) laid out in a very contemporary fashion accompanied by some well detailed articles. Quite arty. The pages are binded with glue, not staples and the pages are of a thicker stock than traditional magazines. The cover, which features an embossed title, might as well be hardcover. Priced at $15.95, it’s a modest investment. And I almost forgot to mention, it comes complete in a plastic, resealable protective pouch.

So what exactly is D23 aside from the tagline? According to the inside cover, D23 (referred to throughout the issue as Disney twenty-three) ‘celebrates the adventure Walt embarked upon and the amazing legacy that lives on in the work of Disney storytellers, animators, film-makers, Imagineers and Cast Members around the world.’ Read more…

Is Epcot’s Test Track Running on Empty?

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that with a sponsorship contract set to expire this year with GM, the auto maker (who reportedly pays Disney around $5million annually for the privilege) is in no financial position to go another lap with the attraction. Talks are in the works but the economic gloom is suggesting that Disney should start talking to Lexus on how to make Test Track drive itself. Full article here.

Disney Shows You How to Shop Like a Celebrity

Connecticut-based Fanzter announced yesterday that it had reached an agreement with Disney’s venture capital group Steamboat Ventures to invest $2million into Fanzter’s Coolspotters, a site devoted to directing visitors to the clothing and gadgets used by their favorite celebs. SVC managing director Dan Beldy joins the Fanzter board.
