ESPN will launch ESPN 3D –  the industry’s first 3D television network – it was announced today by George Bodenheimer, Co-chairman, Disney Media Networks, and President, ESPN and ABC Sports.  ESPN 3D will showcase a minimum of 85 live sporting events during its first year, beginning with the first  2010 FIFA World Cup match on June 11 featuring South Africa vs. Mexico.  Other events to be produced in 3D include up to 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches, Summer X Games, college basketball, and college football, which will include the BCS National Championship game in Glendale, Ariz., January 10, 2011.  Additional events will be announced at a later date.

Walt Disney World Celebrates the U.S. Military in 2010 with Special Ticket and Lodging Offers

As Disney Parks ask “What Will You Celebrate?” and invite guests to turn their personal milestones into magical family vacations in 2010, America’s military personnel will have more reasons to celebrate: Special offers on theme park tickets and accommodations.

With Disney’s Armed Forces Salute, from Jan. 3 to July 31, 2010, active and retired U.S. military personnel (including active and retired members of the United States Coast Guard and active members of the National Guard or Reservists) or their spouses can purchase Disney’s 4-Day Military Promotional Base Tickets for $99, plus tax, for themselves and up to five additional family members or friends for use at Walt Disney World Resort.  The Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More options can be added for an additional $26, plus tax, per option, per ticket.  No more than six Disney’s 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets (with or without options) may be purchased by any eligible member of the U.S. military (and/or spouse) pursuant to this offer.

All tickets and options are non-transferable and must be used by Sept. 30, 2010.  However, the tickets and options are not valid for use on the following blockout dates: March 27, 2010, to April 9, 2010, for all Walt Disney World theme parks and other gated attractions; and July 3 to July 4, 2010, for the Magic Kingdom park.

Active and retired U.S. military personnel also can save up to 40 percent on rooms at select Disney resorts!  This offer is good for stays most nights Jan. 3-Sept. 30, 2010, except not available 3/28-4/10/10 and 7/1-7/5/10, and can be booked through July 31, 2010.  (The number of rooms allocated for this offer is limited.  Minimum length of stay requirements may apply for Friday or Saturday arrivals.  Savings based on non-discounted price for the same room.  Valid Military ID will be required upon check-in.  No group rates or other discounts apply.  Advance reservations required.  Additional per-adult charges apply if more than two adults per room. )

New Personalized Videos Allow You to Share Give a Day, Get a Disney Day with The Muppets

Disney Parks has launched a new site allowing visitors to customize a video starring Muppets Kermit and Fozzie Bear touting the name of the individual or a blog site’s name in an effort to share the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day experience.

At this time, there appears to be a glitch with the blog site name where it won’t work for entries more than 12 characters, so the above video demonstrates adding an individual’s name for being embedded on a website.

Disneyland Brings Back 2Fer Ticket Offer for Southern California Residents

Southern California families looking for value and the best way to spend their entertainment dollars will find an unbeatable offer at the Disneyland Resort in the new year. With the “Southern California Resident 2fer Ticket,” guests will be immersed in the magic of fun attractions and high quality entertainment at Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure park on one day, and then come back on another day to play in the other park – for free.*

Now that the 2fer ticket is back, here are some tips on how to make the most of a deal that gives fans of the Disneyland Resort two days of magic and adventure for only $36 a day per person.**

Disney Cruise Line Adds New Youth Activities; Eliminates Age Barriers (Video)

Disney Cruise Line, the leader in family cruising, is once again reinventing onboard children’s experiences. Through an entirely new approach to youth activities, kids can let their imaginations set sail by customizing their cruise vacation. More youth activities than ever before are available and children choose experiences based on interest, not age.

Exciting new youth activities and dedicated children’s spaces are available now on the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder and are coming to the Disney Dream beginning with the ship’s maiden voyage in January 2011.

“The changes within Disney Cruise Line youth activities will allow children freedom to create a customized experience onboard our ships,” said Disney Cruise Line Vice President of Entertainment Jim Urry. “Children can select their own adventures and immersive experiences for a truly personalized, memorable cruise vacation.”

Customized Experiences
On Disney Cruise Line, children can personalize their cruise vacation by selecting activities and events, regardless of age. Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab are open to children age 3 to 12 on the Disney Wonder and age 3 to 10 on the Disney Magic.

While Disney Cruise Line will continue to recommend activities that appeal to specific maturity levels and ages, the entire menu of offerings is open to every child. With this evolutionary approach to shipboard youth activities, children and parents select programs based on the specific interests of each child to create a customized and very personalized experience. Best of all, children of different ages — siblings, extended family and friends — can participate in youth activities together throughout their cruise.

The majority of children’s events and free-time activities occur within dedicated youth spaces on the ship and on Castaway Cay. As always, Disney Cruise Line youth activities are supervised by specially trained, experienced counselors.

Specific program information is available to guests on the day of check-in at the Youth Activities registration desk located in the Disney cruise ship terminal building prior to boarding, or onboard in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab.

New ‘The Bachelor’ Interactive Game Will Send Winner to St. Lucia

In conjunction with the premiere of “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love,” ABC.com will launch an all-new interactive Rose Ceremony Game enabling fans of the show to put their matchmaking skills to the test. Viewers can go online each week and make their picks of which bachelorettes will receive a rose from bachelor Jake Pavelka.

Players will earn points for their correct picks and by correctly answering trivia questions about the previous week’s episode. Bonus points will also be awarded to players who correctly predict which bachelorette will get the first rose of the evening, and also if they correctly predict the order in which the roses are handed out.

‘Captain EO’ to Return to Disneyland for Limited Engagement on January 29

In anticipation of the return engagement of Captain EO to the Disneyland Resort,  ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Audience’ in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland closes today and, according to an official refurbishment schedule, is expected to re-open on January 29, presumably as Captain EO, starring Michael Jackson.
