Thinly veiled as a puff piece in which Walt Disney Studios marketing has opted to turn to a veteran consultant to handle the marketing for the fourth installment of the immensely popular Pirates of the Caribbean series, Kim Masters for The Hollywood Reporter has offered a rather scathing piece which hits WDS right where it counts — below the money belt.
MINDstyle has been promoting Epic Mickey in a very vague way as of late and with the other merchandising for the game going on, particularly through Hot Topic, it’d be of little shock if MINDstyle were to produce vinyl adult toy collectibles (ATCs) in support of the game. In fact, it might even be more shocking if they weren’t (or at least Medicom which is producing the VCD of Mickey in the collector’s edition of the game).
Enter Animatronic Donald Duck. I’ll be honest, this may not be news, but this is the first time I’ve personally seen any form of these animatronic Disney characters since the initial concept art was leaked. According to the blog entry from MINDstyle:

Very early this year, we reported on a Hollywood Reporter blurb that didn’t seem to catch the eye of most — Disney planned on releasing three Blu-ray 3D titles this year: A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3.
Shortly thereafter it was widely rumored but never substantiated that Disney was considering making Alice in Wonderland a package deal with Sony products. However Sony recently announced and Variety confirms that it will be offering not just Alice in Wonderland as an exclusive bundle with its 3D home theater equipment this fall, but that Disney’s Bolt will also be available exclusively in Blu-ray 3D with Sony. The titles will come alongside purchases of Sony Bravia 3D TVs and — without the assistance of eBay — consumers will be forced to choose between the two. Whether the 3D titles will become available for general purchase in the future is up in the air.
From Magic Journeys to Captain EO to MuppetVision 3D to Honey, I Shrunk the Audience to Captain EO, one film camera provided all the magic and it was Hines’ 3-D Camera Rig that made the magic happen. Now, according to Variety, Disney and Steve Hines will be recognized for their efforts by the International 3D Society on October 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Earlier this year, both Disney/Pixar’s UP and its accompanying short Partly Cloudy were recognized when the award was given out for the first time.
Merchandising isn’t the only big marketing move when it comes to promoting the latest Disney film, books are huge business too. Personally, I’ve become a huge fan of the junior novelization series which are often available a month or more before the film is released. It’s always fascinating to see just how similar the book, which is based on the actual scripts, is (or isn’t) to the final product. Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3 were dead-on while The Sorcerer’s Apprentice makes one imagine there’s a lot of film still sitting on the cutting room floor.
Via its official Facebook page for Tangled, Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first of several new videos today to promote the film: a parody of the viral ‘Double Rainbow’ YouTube sensation by Guy ‘Bear’ Vasquez.
While treading through the forest one day, Flynn Rider stumbles upon one beautiful tower — no wait, it’s a double tower!
As an added treat, there’s even a bit of new animation, albeit not quite Disney Digital ready given Flynn’s poor equipment (and memory capacity).
As a thank you to the loyal viewers of “Grey’s Anatomy,” executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, along with ABC, are giving the series’ Facebook fans the opportunity to select the official poster art for Season Seven.
Beginning today, September 7, six images will be uploaded to the official “Grey’s Anatomy” Facebook page. Fans will have until Thursday, September 16 at 9:00 p.m., ET to cast their votes. The poster image that receives the most Facebook “comments” and “likes” will become the official art.
Select fans who participate may also be recipients of a surprise collectors’ item from the show.
Disney Interactive Studios and Junction Point Studios have recently released this gameplay video from Epic Mickey titled Dark Beauty Castle.
In what appears to be a tutorial level, Gremlin Gus (who was incidentally the result of a joint venture between Walt Disney and noted childrens author Roald Dahl) instructs Mickey on the use of using both the paint and thinner, not only to battle enemies (or help other characters), but also to manipulate the environment, sometimes by using both tools in conjunction with each other. Along the way, Mickey also picks up some tickets and tv tokens which allow him to distract enemies temporarily by plopping down a television in front of them. As a reward for saving a gremlin, Mickey also receives a golden trading pin.
Walt Disney World has re-released this time-lapse photography video of the Halloween/fall decor being installed along Main Street USA and Mickey’s Toontown Fair at Magic Kingdom. According to the video description, more than 40 cast members are involved in the process which takes places over a period of five nights to install all of the holiday decorations.
The Disneyland Resort also released this video today highlighting some of its Halloween festivities including the Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion overlay, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, World of Color, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and character meet & greets.
