This past Friday, hundreds of D23 members were joined by Walt Disney Company President and CEO Robert Iger, producer Don Hahn, Roy E. Disney’s son Roy P. Disney and, of course, Mickey Mouse, as they re-dedicated the Walt Disney Animation Studios building in honor of the late Roy E. Disney at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
On hand were film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley and other members of the cast and crew including producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Mike Newell.
What if Spider-man joined the Fantastic Four? That was the topic of the very first ‘What If’ comic title from Marvel way back in 1977. Although there wasn’t ever likely to be a ‘What if Marvel joined the Disney family?’ title, we’re all beginning to catch our first glimpses of the new relationship, from Disney selling Marvel merchandise throughout its theme parks to awkwardly and backhandedly promoting the current slate of Marvel Studios films as they continue to be distributed by Paramount.

no images were foundLotso from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 began greeting guests at Walt Disney World’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park this morning and we were pleased to be amongst the first to welcome him to the World. Although we were warned that he would make his first appearance at 10:30, several guests showed up as close to the park’s 9 am opening as possible to stake their place in line. In fact, it wouldn’t be until around 9:45, when the queue already began wrapping around the corner that it would even see its first guest under the age of 15 (or so).
Lotso (short for Lots-o’-Huggin’) will be making his in-park debut on Sunday, May 9 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where he will be meeting & greeting guests in an area of the Animation Building made up to look like Sunnyside Daycare. In addition, he’ll also be appearing in the Pixar parades at both resorts: Block Party Bash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Pixar Play! at Disney California Adventure.

item, Toy Story 3 from Disney/Pixar features Buzz Lightyear and Jessie engaging in a Paso Dablo (double-step) when Buzz is switched into Spanish mode to the tune of ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ as performed by the Gipsy Kings.
In order to replicate the dance as closely as possible, the team at Pixar Animation Studios called upon Dancing with the Stars professionals Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke to help them choreograph the scene. The story of the collaboration is told in the following video clip from ABC which features backstage footage and an animation test.
The Social Security Administration released its list of most popular baby names for 2009 today and it appears New Moon trumps Twilight as Jacob and Isabella took both #1 spots for boys and girls respectively. Edward comes in at a respectable 137 (up 11 over 2008) and Cullen also saw a significant increase over 2008, rising 297 spots to take #485.
In the Disney arena, Demi broke through the top 1000 spots this year to take spot #883 and Selena gave a good effort, rising 28 spots to #323, but despite a small decrease, Miley still reigns queen of the group with #189, her second best since storming into the top 1000 back in 2007.
