Stephen Ames Claims Second Win in Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Sudden-Death Playoff with Justin Leonard, George McNeill

2009 Children's Miracle Network Classic champion Stephen Ames celebrates Nov. 15, 2009 with his son Ryan, age 10, and Mickey Mouse following his victory in the 39th annual PGA TOUR event at Walt Disney World Resort. (Garth Vaughan, photographer)LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The legacy of nail-biter finishes at Walt Disney World Resort added another chapter Sunday (Nov. 15) when Canada’s Stephen Ames parred the second hole of a playoff with George McNeill and Justin Leonard to win the 2009 Children’s Miracle Network Classic, the final event of the PGA TOUR season. It marked the 21st time in the last 28 years that the Classic was decided either by a playoff or a single stroke in regulation.

For Ames, it also marked a second nail-biter win at Disney in the last three years. In 2007, he hit out of a greenside bunker on No. 18 and one-putted for par to protect a one-stroke victory. This time, he needed five birdies on his final seven holes, capped by a birdie on the difficult No. 18, to catch McNeill and Leonard at 18-under-par 270 and become part of the playoff.

After Leonard’s potential tournament-winning birdie putt lipped out on the final hole, he three-putted the same hole for bogey at the start of the playoff and was eliminated. McNeill, who scrambled for a par on the first playoff hole, had his putt for par on the second playoff hole, the par 3 Magnolia No. 15, lip out. That sealed the victory for Ames, who had tapped in for par.

iPhone App Review: LUMA

LUMA by Walt DisneyTitle: LUMA (link)
Publisher:
Walt Disney
Released:
November 10, 2009
Cost:
$.99
iTouch?:
Yes
Pros: Quick, addictive play, good graphics and sound effects
Cons:
None
Review: I confess when I first read LUMA’s description and saw the game shots, I thought I knew exactly how the game was going to go. At first glance, the concept seemed like this network type game I had played on a PDA long ago where ‘cables’ had to be rotated in 90 degree increments in order to connect various ‘nodes’ together to complete a ‘network.’ Although LUMA’s premise is similar, Disney Interactive (and its Enorbus subsidiary) have managed to turn the simple concept on its ears and produce a quick and highly addictive logic puzzle game.

This holiday season, guests will get to see and meet the newest Disney princess, Tiana, the star of a new show in New Orleans Square at Disneyland Park. In addition, they will enjoy the return of special holiday versions of “it’s a small world” and Haunted Mansion, along with beautiful holiday decor, “A Christmas Fantasy” parade and a nightly snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A.

For the first time during the holidays, guests in Disneyland Park will see “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!” – inspired by the new Walt Disney Pictures animated film “The Princess and the Frog.” The rousing, colorful show has a jazz-filled holiday celebration vibe. It begins with a Mardi Gras-style cavalcade from New Orleans Square to the Mark Twain Riverboat in Frontierland. At the landing, Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and other “Princess and the Frog” characters move onboard and, as the boat takes to the river, Tiana and company entertain guests on shore with a musical show that includes songs from the motion picture. The show runs through Jan. 3, 2010.

Themed entertainment, sparkling decorations and tasty treats add festive warmth to holiday fun at both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure park.

At Disneyland Park, Sleeping Beauty Castle has been transformed into Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle where, after dark, a sensational holiday lighting and special-effects show carries the magic of the holidays from the castle all the way to the Christmas tree in Town Square. The Disneyland Christmas tree is specially designed to present a nightly holiday light show like no other, with more than 62,000 energy-efficient LED lights.

Phineas and Ferb’s Holiday Media Blitz: New TV Special, Meet and Greets Debut in Parks Parade

A cleverly comedic, music-filled holiday special, “Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation,” will premiere across multiple Disney-ABC TV, radio and digital platforms plus iTunes and Xbox Live, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 through FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18. The special is from creators and executive producers Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the team behind “Phineas and Ferb,” the #1 animated series for kids and tweens.

Eric Coleman, Senior Vice President, Original Series, Disney Television Animation, said: “This special has all the makings of a holiday classic – a strong theme of gratitude, plus the comedy, great music and smart writing fans have come to expect from ‘Phineas and Ferb.'”

In addition to the series talented cast, the special guest stars include: Clancy Brown (“Shawshank Redemption”), Jane Carr (“Dear John,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Malcolm McDowell (“A Clockwork Orange”), Mathew Horne (“Gavin & Stacey”) and Bruce MacKinnon (“The Catherine Tate Show”).

Povenmire and Marsh said: “We’re thrilled about the multi-platform premiere of ‘Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation’ because it gives us the opportunity to share our own Christmas story with so many and we’d like to think that in the future, the platypus will be associated with Christmas as much as a reindeer!” They continued, “The episode has some of our best musical numbers, lots of holiday themes, and like those Christmas classics we grew up with, Phineas and Ferb have to overcome some pretty big obstacles to save Christmas. That’s really the underlying theme of the special – as well as the series – that if you set your mind to something, especially with the help of your friends and family, you can accomplish anything.”
