According to reports, Marvel filed an action in Manhattan court today to petition a judge to invalidate claims by the family of Spidey’s co-creator, Jack Kirby. Kirby’s family sent out several dozen notices last year to several companies including Marvel, claiming that they are entitled ownership to Kirby’s creations under copyright law. In addition to Spidey, other hot properties such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men are in play.
Marvel claims that the characters were created under ‘work-for-hire’ and have complete ownership to the properties.
No, this isn’t one of those reports talking about the online petition going around to coerce Disney Parks into transforming Tom Sawyer’s Island into a LOST attraction. This is a report on a report from Movie|Line which claims to have a source that reveals that there is in fact an attraction based on the popular ABC series in the works at Walt Disney Imagineering. Along with the disclaimer that everything is subject to change, the report goes as far as to say that Imagineering ‘insiders’ had been caught talking about the project at the International Associations of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAPPA) show in Las Vegas.
It’ll be another 20 years before we’ll learn if she’ll be eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but today we have learned what has long been suspected – Hannah Montana is calling it quits.
The New York Post reports confirmation from Disney that the next season, which begins taping later this month and will debut in the fall of 2010, will be the last for the show that brought a whole new life to the Disney Channel. The report outlines the final season as paralleling the lives of Miley Cyrus and character Miley Stewart as they each grapple with leaving behind the personas that have propelled them both to fame. The one hour season 3 finale, titled ‘Is Miley Saying Goodbye?’ will air in Mid-March and will reveal what Miley Stewart’s intentions are for her final year.
Disney’s country label Lyric Street has launched a brand new website in honor of its artist Rascal Flatts who celebrate ten years in the industry in 2010. The new site reminisces across the past decades with a photo collage, a length history of awards and recognitions and a complete discography.
Also pictured on the site is what appears to be cover art for an album titled 10 Years featuring a large X (Roman numeral for ten) promising a September 2010 release (although October seems like it would be a more obvious choice) along with a host of ways for loyal fans to interact.

On February 6, Universal Orlando Resort will kick off its 15th year of Mardi Gras – the biggest and most authentic Mardi Gras celebration outside of New Orleans. Guests will experience the spirit of Bourbon St. in the heart of Universal Studios, with festivities including live concerts by artists like Flo Rida, Sheryl Crow and Chicago, authentic Cajun cuisine, a spectacular parade and tons of beads.
With a combined total of more than half a billion records sold worldwide, this year’s Mardi Gras lineup features an eclectic mix of 13 of the biggest names in music. From hip-hop to pop, country to rock, and R&B to disco, there will be something for everyone. Along with Flo Rida, Sheryl Crow and Chicago, Mardi Gras guests will enjoy live performances by headliners like “The Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, country sensation Dierks Bentley, hip-hop artist Akon, multi-platinum selling rock band 3 Doors Down and the No. 1 selling American band of all time, Beach Boys.
In addition to seeing top-name talent perform on the main stage, guests can also visit Universal’s very own “French Quarter” – a replica of the New Orleans’ famed district – and groove to the authentic bayou sounds of bands directly from New Orleans.
To commemorate this special year, guests will enjoy a heritage-themed Mardi Gras parade featuring new colorful renditions of floats from past year’s events. Universal worked with New Orleans-based Blaine Kern Artists, Inc. to incorporate new elements into some of the most memorable floats in the event’s history. The twelve vibrant floats will cruise the streets of Universal Studios during the festivities, filled with riders tossing beads by the handful to excited park guests.
Guests will also enjoy the aroma and taste of authentic Cajun cuisine – such as jambalaya, gumbo, beignets and king cake – along with hundreds of costumed characters and stilt walkers dancing and mingling in the streets. Party-goers will also enjoy Universal Studios’ most popular attractions, including the all-new Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – a radically-innovative roller coaster that combines hit music, first-ever maneuvers and highly-sophisticated audio and video for a one-of-a-kind ride experience.
