WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 — One of the most adventurous characters in children’s literature, Flat Stanley, traveled to the prestigious Library of Congress today where he, along with the first three books in Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures series, were inducted into the Library to help Adventures by Disney and HarperCollins Children’s Books celebrate an exciting new project called “The Search for Flat Stanley’s Next BIG Adventure.”
Due to his peculiar ability to be mailed to different locations, Stanley is the most well-traveled character in children’s literature, traveling around the world thousands of times annually in an educational project that has become a classic of the American classroom. Now budding writers and artists are invited to create their own Flat Stanley story in “The Search for Flat Stanley’s Next BIG Adventure.” In this nationwide contest, children ages 7 to 12 can win an Adventures by Disney vacation by creating a specially themed Flat Stanley and a 150-word story about his “Next BIG Adventure.”
Entries will be judged in three age groups – one for 7 to 8-year-olds, one for 9 to 10-year-olds and one for 11 to 12-year-olds. One winner will be chosen in each age group and each of the three winners can choose one of Adventures by Disney’s 19 worldwide vacations for their prize.
Parents, kids and educators can check out www.FlatStanleyBooks.com/AdventuresbyDisney for Official Rules and complete information on the Contest; fun, interactive games; and fascinating informational resources. The Contest runs through November 30, 2009 and no purchase is necessary to enter or win.
The big PhotoPass news keeps on coming and this one is sure to disappoint even more people than the last item we reported about the extension fees.
A Stitch Kingdom reader has made us aware that the link to pre-order PhotoPass is no longer working. Sure enough, the page now automatically gets re-directed to this page which specifically affirms the already established policy that the offer is meant solely for those who are invited to participate by email.
Not too long ago, we showed you how the original computer graphics (CG) models from the actual films helped produce the Toy Story Definitive Collection from Thinkway Toys. Today, we’re going to take a look at the same type of technology being used for an entirely different purpose: bringing Pixie Hollow to life at the 2009 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.
Apologies for being a bit late on reporting this, but available at select retail locations at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts are these Halloween-themed Disney Gift Cards, pictured to the left. Where the image is white, the card is actually transparent.
Several months ago, reports of the WiFi near the Beach Club lobby was open to the public as opposed to the traditional means of charging for it. While some speculated that it must have been in error and would only be temporary, recent reports not only confirm it’s still available in the common areas at the resort, but that resort staff has confirmed it was an intentional, permanent change in policy.
This has now appeared to carry over to other Convention resorts (which all offer WiFi in public areas such as the lobby and pool areas) as we have seen reports that the Contemporary Resort also makes WiFi available at no charge.
In addition to the ceremony and interviews, the video also shows various elements of the new experience.
Disney Channel will debut the third season of its Emmy-nominated multicultural series for preschoolers, “Handy Manny,” starring Wilmer Valderrama, on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7 (8:30 a.m., ET/PT). The third season will include a new primetime special, a new short-form series and the introduction of 10 new tool characters.
Guest stars include Rosario Dawson as a marine biologist, Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a race car driver, Jim Belushi as a drawbridge operator and Giada De Laurentiis as the owner of a pizza parlor. Lance Bass returns in the recurring role of klutzy “surfer dude,” Elliot.
Monorail Teal will soon be making its debut at Walt Disney World after being constructed from undamaged parts of Monorail Pink and Monorail Purple which collided this past summer, resulting in the death of Monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg.
This will bring the fleet up to 11 trains, joining Red, White, Coral, Lime, Green, Black, Silver, Blue, Gold and Orange. Out of respect to Wuennenberg and his family, Pink and Purple will officially be retired.
The NTSB is still conducting its investigation into the incident but has publically acknowledged Disney’s proper conduct following the tragedy.
The official storage policy for Disney’s PhotoPass photos is that they will be available online for editing and ordering for at least 30 days after being added to one’s account. Afterwards, deletions were sure to occur (although the occasional rogue photos may have managed to escape their fate a la Logan’s Run). From the very beginning, many users had struggled to complete all of the editing within the 30 day timeframe and with additional enhancements to both the website and the actual PhotoPass system itself over the years, the 30 day period has proven to become increasingly difficult for many customers.
