While the New York Times may continue to report on their financial bleak outlook for Disney with an apparent shortage of toys inspired by UP or the Jonas Brothers in.. well, whatever they do, it appears Pixar may get the last laugh – or at least the last bell.

Jungle Book on Britain’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell Proves to be a Disney Fan

Note to future American Idol prospects: notoriously harsh and brutally honest judge Simon Cowell is unabashedly a Disney fan. Although he has spoken on his affinity for the classic animated films before, such as in this article on DeanPiper.com, he held nothing back after this performance by 12 year old Callum Francis on the 4th semi-final of Britan’s Got Talent (yes, that Susan Boyle show).

Barely dressed as Mowgli, Francis performed a medley of the Bare Necessities  and I Wan’na Be Like You. What caught my attention, however, was the appearance of the songs’ actual performers, which appears to have been courtesy of Disneyland Paris (or so I’m assuming).

Disney Interactive Studios Announces JONAS for the Nintendo DS

JONAS for DS BURBANK, Calif. — From sold out shows to the big and small screens, the Jonas Brothers will take over the video game world as well this holiday. Disney Interactive Studios today announced the development of JONAS for Nintendo DS. The game allows players to take on the role of three superstar brothers – Nick, Joe and Kevin Lucas in outrageous adventures from the Disney Channel comedy series “JONAS.” Players help the JONAS band members juggle concerts, school, friends and fans to find the balance between their rock star world and ordinary lives.

D23 Announces Contest to Become Official Donald Duck Portrait Artist – Winner to Receive Rare ‘Duckster’ Award

Donald DuckBURBANK, Calif., May 26 — Irascible, cranky, mischievous, outrageous – Donald Duck has a seemingly limitless personality, and in honor of his birthday on June 9, Disney’s D23 is commissioning an official portrait from those who know Donald best: his fans.

For the first time ever, Disney is turning to fans to create an official portrait of one of its biggest stars. Finalists in the Donald Duck 75th Anniversary Portrait Contest will have their work unveiled and displayed at the inaugural D23 Expo, which will be held September 10-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center, adjacent to Disneyland.

The contest is hosted by D23: The Official Community for Disney Fans, and is open to all D23 Members who are 18 or older. Full-length oil, acrylic or watercolor canvas portraits of Donald Duck, no larger than 24″ W x 36″ H, are eligible. Artists must first submit an original sketch, in any medium or size, of the planned artwork. The submission form, as well as full contest rules and additional details, can be found at the official D23 website, http://www.disney.com/D23. All finalists selected to have their works displayed will be eligible for two complimentary, four-day admission passes to the D23 Expo.

Walt Disney World Online Moms Panel Wins Public Relations Award

The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recently held its 22nd annual Big Apple Awards event in New York City. From a record of 186 entries, 37 awards and 18 honorable mentions were given. “The winning agencies demonstrated a gold standard in public relations, a clear understanding of client objectives and flawless execution,” said PRSA-NY President elect, Irene Maslowski.

In order to be eligible for the award, the entrant must be located in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut Tri-State Area and had to perform most or all of the actual work on the program, which could have been executed anywhere within the United States. The panel of judges was comprised of experienced, senior level public relations practitioners, representing a broad range of disciplines.

‘Flight of the Navigator’ Remake Cleared for Takeoff

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Disney is readying a relaunch of the 1986 sci-fi adventure movie “Flight of the Navigator.” It has hired “Wild Hogs” scribe Brad Copeland to write the remake.

The original movie told the story of a 12-year-old boy (Joey Cramer) who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. NASA scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family.
