BURBANK, Calif., March 9, 2009 — The Walt Disney Company today announced a landmark set of strategic environmental goals and challenging 3 to 5 year targets to reduce emissions, waste, electricity and fuel use, and its impact on water and ecosystems.
The goals are part of Disney’s 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report, which details the company’s approach to critical corporate responsibility issues ranging from charitable giving to nutrition and from online safety for kids to workplace diversity.
The March 16 issue of Fortune will feature its 2009 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies. The list is a result of a survey of executives, directors and analysts of the largest companies in the world who were asked to first rank companies in their own industries and then to rank them overall based on certain criteria.
In the Entertainment industry, the Walt Disney Company ranked #1 in all nine categories giving it an overall rank of 1 while the company ranked #13 out of all industries combined. For more details and the full results of the survey, click here.
Can you smellllllllllll what the Disney publicity machine is cookin’? The actor formerly known as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, is working overtime to promote the release of Race to Witch Mountain this Friday. After hosting FOX’s Animation Domination last week, Johnson did double duty this weekend, hosting both Saturday Night Live as well as a Disney marathon of films on Starz Sunday night. And he has not yet begun to promote.

I quasi-apologize for those who had trouble accessing the site for much of Saturday morning. The photo that shall not be named had been picked up by a popular Polish site called Kotek who uniquely opted to simply post the link rather than show the image as well. This immediately caused tremendous site overload (so much so that the account was even temporarily suspended). With my great host’s support, some changes were made to increase performance and to mitigate the service disruption from our visitors from Poland (who will still be able to see what they came for).
