‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ Extended ‘New Leaf’ Ad

While the bad news is that the recently released extended ad for The Odd Life of Timothy Green is not much more than a pared-down version of the most recent trailer, the good news is that the marketing machine is getting behind the film which could very easily resonate with audiences as the live-action feel-good type of family movie Disney occasionally becomes synonymous with.

Academy Award®-nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?) brings enchantment to the screen with The Odd Life of Timothy Green, an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim — and their small town of Stanleyville — learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green sprouts into theaters on August 15, 2012.

‘Paperman’ Hi-Res Concept Art and First Image

Though all of these images have already been released on the short’s official Facebook page, Walt Disney Animation Studios have provided us with hi-res versions of concept art from its upcoming short, Paperman. Although all descriptions for the art state that they’re concept art, going by filenames, three of the images are in fact from the color script for the film while one is titled ‘first look,’ and at full resolution, definitely appears as if it may be an actual still from short.

Introducing a groundbreaking technique that seamlessly merges computer-generated and hand-drawn animation techniques, first-time director John Kahrs takes the art of animation in a bold new direction with Paperman. Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. Created by a small, innovative team working at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Paperman pushes the animation medium in an exciting new direction.

Paperman will be making its world and North American debuts in June at the Annecy and LA Film Fests and will be shown before Wreck-It Ralph when it debuts in theaters on November 2, 2012.

E3: Disney to Announce ‘Where’s My Perry?’ ‘Where’s My Water?’ Spin-Off

With E3 just around the corner, if we could ask Disney Mobile just one question, it would be ‘whatcha doooooo-in?’ But if we could ask Disney Mobile two questions, the first would be ‘whatcha dooooo-in?’ and the second would be ‘Hey, Where’s My Perry?’

We’re pretty sure both questions (and a whole lot more) will be answered next week, whether we ask them or not, so we’ll just use our handy cutoutthemiddleman-inator and offer up some possible evidence that a ‘Where’s My Water?’ and ‘Phineas and Ferb’ cross-over is about to surface.

It all began innocently enough with a tweet, as it usually does.

To us, that would suggest that everyone’s favorite alligator Swampy has a trick or ’2′ up his sleeve (notice I put ’2′ in quotes to suggest it could possible allude to something — and now we’ve done it ‘23′ times).

On or about May 26, 2012 (but mostly on), Disney registered WHERESMYPERRY.COM, a clever play on both the ever Phineas catch-phrase (‘Hey, where’s Perry?’) and Swampy’s ‘Where’s My Water?’ but could it simply be coincidence? No. But in case you’re thinking it might be, just like #wheresmywater serves as the official Twitter hashtag for the popular mobile game, one might easily assume that #wheresmyperry would serve as the official hashtag for ‘Where’s My Perry?’ A recent search on the hashtag on Twitter has turned up many hits, all from a user named Andrew Jandas (@jandas1230), an account that appears to exist solely for letting SwampTheGator know his progress (or often lack thereof) in the game using its built-in tweet button.

Recently the account has been posting messages such as the following:

Although the content of the tweet is presumably still under development, the findings are hard to dispute. Linked in the tweet is a picture of a screen from ‘Where’s My Perry?’ featuring level pack, ‘Mission 1: An Agent I Can Trust’ in which the player has ‘tri-gnomed’ the level as opposed to tri-ducking in the original game. In addition, the tweet originates from a Twitter app called ‘WheresMyWater’ just as many of the actual game tweets do and reviewing the user’s twitpic timeline reveal several screens that look more like testing/debugging ones than final product, such as this one.

Only the details (and the game itself) remain to be seen. The tri-gnoming is likely to be an allusion to the second episode of ‘Phineas and Ferb,’ ‘Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror,’ in which Agent P/Perry the Platypus is tasked with recovering lawn gnomes stolen by Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, but whether that theme continues on or each level pack ties into a different episode remains to be seen.

In any case, when E3 rolls around next week, we look forward to the moment when we can finally say ‘”Where’s My Perry?,’” what an unexpected surprise! And by unexpected, we mean totally expected.’

‘The Avengers’ to be Screened Aboard International Space Station

Marvel Studios announced today that they arranged with NASA to transfer their record-breaking blockbuster film Marvel’s The Avengers to NASA’s Mission Control in Houston, which will uplink the film to the International Space Station (ISS), currently orbiting 220 miles above Earth. The film will then be screened for the space station crew’s exclusive enjoyment.

This screening continues Marvel’s collaboration with NASA, which began during principal photography of Marvel’s The Avengers when the film shot at the Space Power Facility at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.

Louis D’Esposito, Marvel Studios’ Co-President and Executive Producer of Marvel’s The Avengers, says, ‘The studio is privileged to share Marvel’s The Avengers with those up in space exploring the universe. A special thanks goes to NASA for utilizing their incredible technology to make this special screening miles above us in space happen. It is a screening that would make Tony Stark envious.’

Films, books, and music offer important aspects of psychological support for astronauts on long-duration missions, such as those on the International Space Station (ISS). ‘These are the types of things that help to keep the crew connected to home, which is a huge morale boost while being away for long periods of time,’ said Dan Cook, Psychological Support Coordinator with Wyle, a contractor at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Aside from watching movies and television shows, ISS crewmembers have a number of options for their leisure and personal time, such as reading books or magazines, listening to music, and playing musical instruments.

The current space station mission is Expedition 31 and has a six-member crew consisting of 2 NASA Astronauts, 1 European Space Agency (ESA) Astronaut, and 3 Russian (RU) Cosmonauts as follows: Don Pettit (NASA), Joe Acaba (NASA), Andre Kuipers (ESA), Oleg Kononenko (RU), Gennady Padalka (RU), Sergei Revin (RU)

‘Brave’ Clip ‘Suitors’

Although bits and pieces from this clip have been seen before, the clip from Disney/Pixar’s Brave titled ‘Suitors’ clocks in at a whopping 89 seconds, as each of the clans’ Lords (MacGuffin, Macintosh and Dingwall) present their eldest son for consideration to be betrothed to Princess Merida.

The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the land’s ancient lore — stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage.

The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Brave, full of heart, memorable characters and Pixar’s signature humor, takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Alan Horn Named as Chairman of Walt Disney Studios

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced today that Alan Horn has been named Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios effective June 11. Horn will oversee worldwide operations for The Walt Disney Studios including production, distribution and marketing for live-action and animated films from Disney, Pixar and Marvel, as well as marketing and distribution for DreamWorks Studios films released under the Touchstone Pictures banner. Disney’s music and theatrical divisions will also report to Horn.

Horn has been a prominent figure in the film and television industry overseeing creative executive teams responsible for some of the world’s most successful entertainment properties including the Harry Potter film franchise and the hit television series Seinfeld among others.

“Alan not only has an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience in the business, he has a true appreciation of movie making as both an art and a business,” said Iger. “He’s earned the respect of the industry for driving tremendous, sustained creative and financial success, and is also known and admired for his impeccable taste and integrity. He brings all of this to his new role leading our studio group, and I truly look forward to working with him.”

“I’m incredibly excited about joining The Walt Disney Company, one of the most iconic and beloved entertainment companies in the world,” said Horn. “I love the motion picture business and look forward to making a contribution as part of Bob Iger’s team working closely with the dedicated and talented group at the studio.”

Horn was most recently President and COO of Warner Bros. Entertainment where he had oversight of the Studios’ theatrical and home entertainment operations, including the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, Warner Premiere (direct-to-platform production), Warner Bros. Theatrical Ventures (live stage) and Warner Home Video. During his 12 year tenure, Warner Bros. Studios was the global box office leader seven times.

Among the numerous critically acclaimed films and box office hits released during his tenure are all eight films in the Harry Potter series, The Dark Knight, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Happy Feet, Sherlock Holmes, The Departed, Batman Begins, Million Dollar Baby, the second and third Matrix films and the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy. Horn is also an executive producer of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Before joining Warner Bros., Horn co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He oversaw the creation of many critically acclaimed and beloved films including Best Picture Oscar nominees A Few Good Men, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile as well as When Harry Met Sally, City Slickers, In the Line of Fire and the most successful show in television history, Seinfeld. Horn has also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and was Chairman and CEO of Embassy Communications.

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute and the Museum of Broadcasting. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Film Institute; as a Vice Chairman of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC); is a co-founder of the Environmental Media Association (EMA); on the Board of Trustees for the Autry National Center in Los Angeles; and on the board of Harvard-Westlake School.

Horn received his MBA from Harvard Business School and served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

ABC News Announces ‘NY Med’ Documentary Series, Premiering July 10

What do grandmothers, addicts and celebrities have in common? All of them seek care at Columbia and Weill Cornell Hospitals, the crown jewels of the prestigious New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. For a full year ABC cameras had unprecedented access to document the mayhem and the miracles that occur daily in these world class facilities. “NY Med” follows the irascible, compassionate and, at times, cocky attending surgeons who try to change the trajectory of lives by relying on sheer medical brilliance and a healthy dose of old fashioned good luck. The eight-part series takes a candid look at how cutting edge medicine often makes the difference, although even the best surgeons can find themselves flirting with disaster. The raucous ER staff trade jibes with strong-willed New Yorkers in moments that can be poignantly heartbreaking or off-the-hook hilarious. These doctors spend far more time with each other than with their families, developing complicated and intertwined personal relationships. “NY Med” premieres Tuesday, July 10 at 10:00 pm ET/OTon the ABC Television Network.

“Medicine is a universal subject. At some point in our lives we or those we love will become patients for one reason or another,” said executive producer Terry Wrong. “This series takes you behind the curtain to learn about those we depend on to fix us, and how sometimes they just can’t.”

Some of the doctors of “NY Med” travel difficult and uncertain paths to reach the pinnacle of medical excellence. Dr. Anthony Watkins, an African-American from the deep south, overcame limited means and an absentee father to become one of the most heralded new talents in transplant surgery. He’s acutely aware of his minority status and feels the burden to be a role model for other young African-Americans.

Among the surgeons of “NY Med” is the well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz, who proves that he remains a world-class heart surgeon despite his successful parallel career as a talk show host. He offers his lucky patients a one-stop shop of surgery, lifestyle counseling and compassion.

When patients and doctors come together on “NY Med,” the stakes are frequently life or death. Rita Saverino, a Wall Street banker and mother of two, thought she would die from the grapefruit-size tumor in her stomach, but Dr. Tomoaki Kato, a maverick Japanese surgeon, believes he can help with an innovative operation called “ex vivo.” Even with the best trained surgeons, things go awry: A former Army officer goes into the operating room for a heart transplant, but wakes up to learn that the heart he has been waiting for was irreparably damaged during removal. Both he and his doctors are desperately disappointed, but what he does next will melt viewers’ hearts.

‘Frankenweenie’ Poster Has Electrifying Bite

Via its official Twitter account, Walt Disney Studios has revealed the latest domestic poster for Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, premiering in theaters on October 5, 2012.

A feature-length stop-motion remake of the original short film by Burton, Frankenweenie is a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new ‘leash on life’ can be monstrous.
