Disney Cruise Line to Offer Pixar Themed Cruises in Fall

A new cast of characters will stroll the decks and visit with guests aboard the Disney Wonder as Mr. Incredible, Remy, Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear and other memorable characters from Pixar Animation Studios’ award-winning films make their shipboard debut during four special Pixar-inspired seven-night California Coastal cruises Sept. 16 through Oct. 14, 2012.

During these voyages, Disney Cruise Line guests will be able to interact with and explore the world of Pixar and their beloved films while the Disney Wonder sails to popular port cities along the coast of California. Special entertainment and offerings designed for both children and adults include:

Pixar Presentations and Sneak Peeks: Artists and filmmakers from Pixar Animation Studios will provide guests with an inside look at the creative process used in the development of an animated feature or short. Guests will go behind the scenes and explore the making of Pixar’s newest release “Brave” and get a look at footage of future Pixar films.
The Art of Pixar: Storyboards, character sketches, environment paintings, maquettes and other inspiring concept art used to design Pixar films will be on display in a special art exhibition at sea. This collection of art has only been seen outside of Pixar Animation Studios when it has been displayed at leading art museums around the world. This time the art will truly be a “traveling” exhibition as the Disney Wonder sails up and down the California coast.
Pixar Film Fest: Guests will be able to enjoy the entire Pixar library of films while onboard, including a selection of delightful animated shorts. Viewing opportunities will take place in the Buena Vista Theatre, Walt Disney Theatre, at the jumbo LED screen on deck or on in-stateroom televisions. The voyages coincide with the theatrical premiere of “Finding Nemo 3D,” which guests can enjoy at either of the two theatres equipped with state-of-the-art Dolby 3D projection systems.
Pixar Character Encounters: More than a dozen Pixar characters will meet with and greet guests throughout the cruise. There will be a special Pixar-themed dance parties in the Atrium Lobby and a host of other opportunities for guests to reconnect with their favorite Pixar pals.

Guests sailing on the Pixar-themed voyages will also receive a commemorative lithograph created by Pixar artist and “Brave” co-director/screenwriter, Steve Purcell.

The Disney Wonder will sail out of Los Angeles and visit San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico during the four Pixar-themed voyages. Rates for the seven-night voyages start at $799 per person for a deluxe inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Sneak Peek: ‘Disney Vacation Account’ Service from Walt Disney World

No matter who you are, no matter where you stay, no matter how long you stay, one thing is for certain: it costs money. For most families, planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation also requires careful planning and budgeting and while future guests are able to pay down their balance as they draw closer to arrival, there’s very little benefit to it other than to insure the money goes to where its intended.

Walt Disney World hopes to change some of that with the ‘Disney Vacation Account’ service, which we now have additional information on thanks to a tip from an anonymous source. According to our source, the site will be along the lines of a mint.com for future Walt Disney World vacationers, offering advice from ‘Disney Moms’ and experts on budgeting everything for the trip from airfare to hotel stay to dining and more.

Guided by Scrooge McDuck and Grand-Nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, guests are invited to plan out their spending requirements ahead of time and budget out everything they’ll eventually need. Deposits can be made to the DVA through Disney Gift Card or credit and debit cards, which can even be scheduled for a hands-off approach, though supplement deposits are always welcome. The account is FDIC insured but in lieu of interest, guests will be offered 2% back on eligible purchases through The Walt Disney Company up to a maximum ($100 according to what we’ve seen, which would ceiling out at around $5,000). Any unused portions of the account holdings can be transferred to a Disney gift card, although the site also promises guests can withdraw funds as a charge-back to their credit card/debit card with no fees, which Disney would presumably cover.

There is no official known launch date for the program as of yet, but we have been tracking the project for quite some time, dating as far back as October 2011 when Disney registered MYDISNEYVACATIONACCOUNT.COM and VAULTOMATIC.COM which we learned was tied to the program before the site became hidden from prying eyes. That site allowed guests to interactively design and ‘secure’ a Disney-themed safe, which fits very well into the Scrooge McDuck theme.

‘Brave’ New Hi-Res Concept Art, Storyboard and Travel Progressions

With less than a month before Disney/Pixar’s Brave makes its theatrical debut, we are pleased to provide you with new concept art and storyboarding courtesy of Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. In addition, we also have a few new concept art pieces which have been added to our constantly growing gallery provided below.

The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the land’s ancient lore — stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida, a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage.

First, we have two sets of travel progressions which demonstrate how real elements found in Scotland made their way to the film via photos and concept art. Here we see some of the forest as well as the mysterious standing stones.

Next is a storyboarding of the scene known as ‘The Prize’ in which Merida decides that if the first born of each of the clans is eligible to compete in an archery contest for her hand, then she is as well, much to the dismay of Queen Elinor.

WDW Refurb Update: Country Bear Jamboree in Hibernation for Fall

The official Walt Disney World Resort website has been updated to advise that Country Bear Jamboree located at the Magic Kingdom will be closed for refurbishment beginning September 1, 2012 and lasting through October 17. It should be noted that when the notice was first posted, it began on October 1, so there is a small chance that the start date may actually precede September.

Additionally, a brief closure for American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was recently announced for June 14 and 15.
