‘Brave’ Merchandise at Disney Store, Walt Disney World Doles Out Spoilers (SPOILERS!)

'Brave' bear cub plush from Disney Store, sold at Walt Disney WorldDespite the adorableness that you see here before you, I would urge you not to continue reading this article unless you want to learn plot points about Disney/Pixar’s Brave prematurely.

Consider yourself warned.

On Tuesday, bookstores will begin offering the Brave junior novelization, an adaptation of the film, true to a script which may or may not be the one that makes the silver screen. One thing is for sure, the junior novelizations, which I am a fan of, hold nothing back when it comes to major plot points, so they’re not something to read if you want to be surprised when the film opens on June 22, 2012.  So revealing are the books, that the Pirates of the Caribbean editions actually stop halfway through the film, so there’s no way to know how it all ends until you see the actual film.

Despite the books, whose secrets are of course released only to those who opt to read them, Disney/Pixar has historically been very tight-lipped when it comes to major plot points. So much so, that as they were rolling out the supporting cast of vehicles in Cars 2, they made sure licensees presenting at the New York International Toy Fair block out images of any vehicle not yet released, even down to small sheets of stickers. Not to mention they famously pulled a fast one by presenting Siddley as the enemy of hero Finn McMissile in the early trailer/previews.

So one has to wonder why Pixar has not only been flaunting some of its plot points of Brave right before your very eyes, almost as to hide them in plain sight. Many have made the connections, many have not, but for those that haven’t, it appears Disney Store wants to correct that by releasing products that range from subtly suggesting what happens to outright telling you.

It started with this Deluxe Brave Figure Play Set released a couple of weeks ago. Among the figures included is a large adult bear wearing a crown. Get it yet? Here’s a hint, the actual description on the product’s website identifies it as ‘mumbear.’ See it now? Final hint: the junior novelization calls it ‘Elinor-Bear.’

All the while, Disney/Pixar has been releasing trailers and stills that show Merida with the adult bear in tow, or reaching out to the bear and even seemingly defending it by sword. Surprise.

By extension, you can probably guess where this is leading since Merida has been seen being very playful and affectionate with the three bear cubs since the beginning. But in case you haven’t made that connection yet either, the new plush bear cubs from Disney Store now on sale at the Merida meet and greet merchandise cart at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World will fix that and you won’t have to work nearly as hard to have that spoiler revealed to you and that is why this article is being written, because it just simply couldn’t be any more overt. Each of the three bear cubs has a name associated with it and while I won’t go as far as to reveal their names, you only need look at the tag to find it in large print.

'Brave' bear cub plush from Disney Store, sold at Walt Disney WorldAnd in case you can’t read, or choose not to, apparently cast members tending to the cart have little problem sharing the secret:

@ I was totally spoiled by the merchandise lady who OPENLY said who the bears were to me. I WAS LIKE OMG SPOILER!!
@corrwill
Cortney Williams

I can’t help but think the bear cub plushes being sold at Walt Disney World have been inadvertently pre-released and will be pulled soon, as they are not yet available at Disney Store locations and online (though that may change this upcoming week and the book certainly changes things), but reports are that the plush are extremely popular, so they may even sell out before being pulled.

Granted these are not the only secrets the movie holds. I’ve heard of even more plot points and surprises which I will spare you, but these spoilers from the merchandise are actually key to the plot of the film.

One more mega ‘spoiler’ for you: the triplets’ nanny is named Maudie.

Very special thanks to @iwynlea for the images used in this article.

WATCH: ‘TRON: Uprising, Beck’s Beginning’ Online

'TRON: Uprising: Beck's Beginning' - Beck, Tesler (Disney XD)

Although it’s meant to make its online debut tomorrow, on the official Disney XD Facebook page, the 30+ minute prelude to the new ‘TRON: Uprising’ series, ‘Beck’s Beginning’ is now online for viewing on its YouTube channel. Having already seen the prelude twice, once as a screener a couple of days ago and once again today on Disney Channel on Demand, I don’t mind highly recommending viewing of the prelude by every one, even if they’ve never seen either film. It’s absolutely visually stunning and a great use of the medium for the series’ lore. I cannot wait for the series premiere on June 7.

Beck is a young mechanic living in Argon City, a growing metropolis in a far off corner of the grid that has just been occupied by General Tesler, a henchman of the notorious Clu. After his best friend Bodhi is ruthlessly derezzed by Clu’s army, Beck seeks justice for his lost friend and launches a crusade against the regime. His rebellion captures the attention of Tron, the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known, who sees the potential in Beck and trains him to be his successor. Labeled with the moniker of The Renegade, Beck sparks a revolution to fight for the freedom of The Grid.

If you have trouble viewing the video, try a different browser.

Note that the prelude is actually a string of all ten ‘microsodes’ that were meant to air individually, this is why it seems to go to a ‘commercial break’ every few minutes or so.

For those that don’t wish to watch it online, it is also available on iTunes (TRON: Uprising, Vol. 1 – TRON: Uprising) as a free download on Monday, May 14th and will premiere on television on Disney Channel on May 18 (with a re-air on Disney XD on May 21).

‘DWTS’ to Feature Carrie Underwood, Alanis Morissette, ‘Rock of Ages’

After last week’s nerve-racking double elimination, the four remaining couples face off in the semifinals of “Dancing with the Stars,” Monday, May 14 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on the ABC Television Network. The couples will perform one new Ballroom and one new Latin dance to determine which three couples will land in the finals.

On Tuesday, May 15 at 9:00 pm ET/PT special musical guests Carrie Underwood and Alanis Morissette will hit the stage with unforgettable performances on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show.” Award winning Country superstar Carrie Underwood is set to perform “Good Girl,” the first single off her brand new album, “Blown Away.” Her exciting performance will be accompanied by Tristan Macmanus, Sharna Burgess, Henry Byalikov and Emma Slater. Multi-platinum, Grammy ® Award-winning artist Alanis Morissette will hit the stage with a world premiere performance of her new single, “Guardian,” from her upcoming album, “Havoc and Bright Lights.” Her performance will be accompanied by Blake McGrath and Tyne Stecklein.

During Tuesday night’s results show we will also have an incredible performance from the upcoming Warner Bros Pictures feature release, “Rock of Ages.” The electrifying performance will feature two-time former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Julianne Hough and her co-star, actor/singer Diego Boneta. Directed by Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”), New Line Cinema’s adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” hit theaters June 15th. The movie musical stars Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, with Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

In the final “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance this season, two yet to be named “DWTS” pros will perform a riveting Samba to “End of Time.” All season long, fans have voted on the performance song, style, costumes and pro dancers for the season’s Macy’s Design-a-Dance.

Carrie Underwood’s brand new album, “Blown Away,” made history by debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart, making her only the second country artist in the 47 year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at No. 1. With more than 267,000 albums sold, “Blown Away” debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 Chart, making Underwood the only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at No. 1. In addition to holding the No. 1 spot on both the Country and All-Genre Album Sales Charts, “Blown Away” also holds the No. 1 spot in digital sales, with more than 107,000 copies sold, making “Blown Away” country’s best-selling digital album debut since 2010. Since releasing “Some Hearts” in 2005, Underwood has sold more than 14 million albums with “Some Hearts,” 2007′s “Carnival Ride,” and 2009′s “Play On,” making her the best selling “American Idol” in the US. She’s amassed 14 No. 1 singles, six of which she co-wrote, and became the first country artist in history and the only “American Idol” winner ever to achieve 10 No. 1 singles from their first two albums. Underwood currently leads the nominations for the upcoming CMT Music Awards with five. She is a five-time Grammy ® winner, a two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, a three-time Country Music Association and ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Since 1995 Alanis Morissette has been one of the most influential singer-songwriter-musicians in contemporary music. Her deeply expressive music and performances have earned vast critical praise, 12 Canadian Juno Awards, 7 Grammy® Awards (with an additional 14 nominations), a Golden Globe nomination and sales of over 60 million albums worldwide. Morissette’s 1995 debut, “Jagged Little Pill,” was followed by such eclectic and acclaimed albums as “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” (1988), “MTV Unplugged” (1999), “Under Rug Swept” (2002), “Feast on Scraps” (2002), “So-called Chaos” (2004), “Jagged Little Pill Acoustic” (2005), her greatest hits album, “The Collection” (2005), and “Flavors of Entanglement” (2008). She has also made many memorable contributions to theatrical releases including: “Uninvited” to the film “City of Angels” (1999), “Still” to the film “Dogma” (1999), and “I Remain”, which she wrote for the “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” Most recently Alanis has acted on the small screen with roles in hit television series “Weeds” and “Up All Night”, and has appeared as a celebrity guest mentor on the current season of “The Voice.” Alanis’ forthcoming seventh studio album, “Havoc and Bright Lights,” is scheduled to release on August 28th, 2012 through Collective Sounds/Sony RED.

By Tuesday evening’s end, one couple will be eliminated, as determined by a combination of the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes on dances performed on Monday’s performance show. Who among the four couples will be the next to leave the ballroom?

* DONALD DRIVER and partner PETA MURGATROYD
* KATHERINE JENKINS and partner MARK BALLAS
* WILLIAM LEVY and partner CHERYL BURKE
* MARIA MENOUNOS and partner DEREK HOUGH

Hosted by Tom Bergeron (“America’s Funniest Home Videos”) and Brooke Burke-Charvet (“Dancing with the Stars” Season Seven Champion), the celebrities perform choreographed dance routines which will be judged by renowned Ballroom judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. Viewers may cast their votes for their favorite teams via phone on Monday night during and up to 60 minutes after the “Dancing with the Stars” performance shows. AT&T customers may also vote by texting the word “VOTE” and entering the number that corresponds to the team they want to support (message and data rates may apply).

‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ Mother’s Day Trailer with Introduction by Jennifer Garner

'The Odd Life of Timothy Green' Teaser PosterIn honor of Mother’s Day, Walt Disney Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming family film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, with a special introduction by star Jennifer Garner.

The film stars Garner and Joel Edgerton as a childless couple who want nothing more than to be able to star their own family, but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim — and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

Although the first trailer was more coy about it, the new trailer holds nothing back in sharing Timothy’s origins as he suddenly and unexpectedly enters the lives of Cindy and Jim and changes their lives and the lives of others in all sorts of ways.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green sprouts into theaters on August 15, 2012.

Disney Dishes Details on New Carthay Circle, Cars Land Dining and Entertainment

FRIED BANANA SPLIT MONTE CRISTO SUNDAE

Yesterday, the Disneyland Resort offered up new details on its offerings in the new Buena Vista Street and Cars Land areas which will make their public debut on June 15.

ON BUENA VISTA STREET
‘If Main Street, U.S.A., is the romanticized version of Walt Disney’s hometown, Buena Vista Street is the next chapter of Walt’s life when he came to California,’ said Ray Spencer of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI). ‘It’s an extension of where we started at Disneyland park… and now our guests can step across the plaza and get the rest of the story.’

A big part of that story was the premier of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, and that landmark building is the inspiration for the spectacular Carthay Circle Theatre that anchors Buena Vista Street. This new landmark for Disney California Adventure park becomes one of the premier dining locations at Disneyland Resort, the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge.

The upstairs Carthay Circle Restaurant and downstairs Carthay Circle Lounge recall the grandeur of the original theater’s 1920s Spanish Revival architecture with custom tiles, plaster arches, custom woodwork and other historic touches. The cuisine is the star of this production with artisan ingredients, locally sourced produce and seafood and meats from throughout Southern California. Executive Chef Andrew Sutton from Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa created the restaurant’s seasonal menu, and Chef Gloria Tae, also from Napa Rose, is at the helm in the kitchen.

Located on the second floor, the 256-seat restaurant (200 inside, 56 on the terrace) is open daily for lunch and dinner.

The restaurant’s menu includes five varieties of sustainable fish, both wild and farmed, in dishes such as sushi-grade yellowtail, grilled with jerk spice and topped with tropical salsa, and Sierra Golden trout roasted with couscous, lemon and oil.  Lunch menu includes udon noodle bowl with red Thai curry broth and Angus burger with Tillamook cheddar cheese. The 68-seat Carthay Circle Lounge, located on the ground floor, features hand-crafted cocktails, California beers from smaller breweries, wines from around the world with a strong focus on California vineyards, and lounge cocktails based on popular drinks from the 1930s including martinis and classic punches.

Each guest who orders an entrée and an appetizer, or an entrée and a dessert, will receive a ticket to a center-stage viewing area for the nighttime spectacular, ‘World of Color.’ The restaurant serves guests daily between 11 am and 10 pm.

The 178-seat Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe (134 inside, 44 outside) will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and will offer Starbucks coffee drinks; signature sandwiches such as a turkey Rueben, paneer and roasted vegetable and salami with olive tapenade, and roast beef and cheddar, as well as savory soups including vegetarian cream spinach, chicken tortilla, classic chicken noodle and cheesy enchilada. Sweet rolls, pastries and breakfast sandwiches are on the morning menu along with specialty coffees. Baristas will wear uniforms inspired by the period.

Named for Mickey Mouse’s original name, to which wife Lillian objected, Mortimer’s Market is a fruit and beverage kiosk which will offer whole and cut fresh fruits, bottled water and juices, and soft drinks.

Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream features Dreyer’s ice cream, including bars dipped in milk or dark chocolate that guests can finish with sprinkles, pop rocks and other fun toppings. Hot fudge and strawberry sundaes and other frozen delights round out the sweet offerings.

Entertainment offerings on Buena Vista Street include the Citizens of Buena Vista Street, a group of eccentric personalities who help bring the spirit of the 1920s and 1930s to life.  Among the citizens strolling the street and immersing guests in the period atmosphere are a fun-loving photographer, a misguided messenger, a dotty dog lover and a comic cop.

Inspired by the spirit and style of Disney’s movie and stage musical Newsies, the Red Car News Boys roll into Buena Vista Street aboard one of the street’s distinctive Red Car Trolleys, performing a variety of authentic period tunes such as ‘California, Here I Come.’  Mickey Mouse, the fun-loving, mischievous young cartoon star of the period, joins the boys for a high-energy street show.

The Five & Dime are an innovative sextet of maverick musicologists longing for their big break as they pass through Buena Vista Street in a makeshift jalopy. Dime, the female vocalist of the group, has charisma and a voice like a young Ella Fitzgerald, and the group enlists some ‘new musicians’ from among the spectators to perform side-splitting versions of ’20s and ’30s song standards.

CARS LAND
With a nod to landmark diners along America’s historic Route 66, guests will feel as if they have stepped into the town of Radiator Springs at Cars Land, with a contemporary spin on classic tastes from the 1950s.

‘We started working nearly four years ago on the concepts,’ says Disneyland Chef Chris Maggetti. ‘For Cars Land, we’ve developed fast-casual restaurants with lots of fun tastes, from dill pickle popcorn to chili and cheese – we call it chili cone queso – in an edible bread cone.’

Flo’s V8 Cafe is inspired by timeless roadside diners and boasts ‘the finest fuel in the 50 states.’ To cater to the growing number of Route 66 visitors and race fans coming to Radiator Springs, Flo expanded her place by adding a ‘showroom’ dining area, the story goes.

‘The showroom is part of the 300-seat dining room that looks out directly over the Radiator Springs Racers attraction,’ says Chef Sean Layne, area chef for Cars Land. Layne developed the restaurant’s signature vegetarian dish, a veggie-tater casserole that’s sure to be a hit with guests.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the menu for Flo’s will change often, with the centerpiece of the restaurant an on-stage rotisserie where guests will see meats grilling, such as New York strip loin, citrus-marinated turkey breast and pork loin flavored with Coca-Cola barbecue sauce. Breakfast specials include brioche French toast with salted caramel and bananas and chicken tamales with scrambled eggs. Signature dish ‘veggie-tater bake’ is Chef Sean Layne’s vegetarian version of classic shepherd’s pie. California wines by the glass include Fess Parker Riesling, Silverado Chardonnay, Chappellet Mountain Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon and Eppa Superfruit Red Sangria, while available beer includes Racer 5 IPA and Red Rocket Ale from Bear Republic Brewing Co. in Healdsburg, California.

House-made pies are the recipes of Disneyland Pastry Chef Jean-Marc Viallet. The single-serving pies come in strawberry-rhubarb, Apple-Cheddar, chocolate mud, cherry and blueberry-peach, to name a few.

The cafe also is home to Flo’s personal memorabilia, collected during her glamorous career as a singer with the Motorama Girls.

Cozy Cone Motel is inspired by the quirky ‘wigwam’ motels along Route 66 with each of five teepees offering tasty cone-themed treats. Cone Number 1 offers churro bites with cinnamon-chocolate sauce, cinnamon-spiced hot cocoa and Ramone’s Pear of Dice Soda made with dessert pear syrup, mojito syrup and Sprite; Cone Number 2 features soft-serve ice cream and ‘route’ beer floats; Cone Number 3 offers savory bites all served in edible bread cones, such as a bacon-scrambled egg cone for breakfast, chicken verde or chili ‘cone’ queso for lunch and dinner. Specialty beverages are Fillmore’s Fuelin’ Groovy Ades, all-natural lemonade with wild berry foam, or pomegranate limeade with lemon-lime foam;  Cone Number 4 is pretzel bites with cheesy sauce and Red’s Apple Freeze, a fat-free, frozen concoction with apple juice, toasted marshmallow syrup and passion fruit-mango foam; Cone Number 5 features two flavored popcorns daily, such as dill pickle and sweet & spicy.  Other flavors include bacon and cheddar, nacho cheese, salt and vinegar. Specialty drink is Doc’s Wild Grape Tonic (Sprite with wild grape syrup and wild berry foam).

Fillmore’s Taste-In is home to resident hippie, Fillmore, where ‘natural fuels’ are on the shelves in his tie-dyed geodesic dome, including whole and cut fruits, bottled water and juices, and soft drinks.

In Cars Land, DJ, the ultimate party car – a big road-trippin’ mobile boom box with giant speakers, built-in disc changer and his very own party crew – takes to the street for DJ’s Dance ‘n Drive, a spontaneous, interactive dance party. Also at Cars Land is Red the Fire Truck who, with the help of his comic ‘Volunteer Fireman,’ recruits guests of all ages to join ‘Red to the Rescue!’ — helping water the flowers and clean up the town of Radiator Springs. (Prepare to get wet!)

Of course, Lightning McQueen and Mater, leading citizens of Cars Land, also are enjoying time on the streets of Radiator Springs, greeting and posing for photographs with guests near the Cozy Cone Motel.

Disney/ABC Television Garners 68 Daytime Emmy Nominations

The Disney/ABC Television Group received 68 nominations for the 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards announced today in New York City. “General Hospital” is the most honored show with 23 nominations, including a nod for Outstanding Drama Series. Executive producer of “The View” and “The Barbara Walters Specials” Bill Geddie will receive the 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions as writer, producer and director over his more than 30-year television career. “The View” received its 13th nomination for Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment. ABC News’ “Good Morning America” received its sixth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Morning Program; “GMA” has won the award in three out of five years since the category was created.

The 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Bill Geddie, executive producer of “The View.” Mr. Geddie, along with Barbara Walters, serves as executive producer of “The View,” ABC’s critically acclaimed live talk and entertainment program produced by ABC and Ms. Walters’ Barwall Productions. Mr. Geddie has also partnered with Ms. Walters for the past 25 years as executive producer of “The Barbara Walters Specials” and “The 10 Most Fascinating People,” which he also co-writes and directs. He and Ms. Walters joined creative forces over 15 years ago for “The View” and have watched their original idea of women of different ages, experiences and backgrounds discussing the most exciting events of the day evolve into one of Daytime’s most popular and talked-about programs.

Disney-ABC Domestic Television receives a total of four nominations. “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly” is honored with two nods, including in the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment category, as well as Outstanding Talk Show Host for Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, which marks the 21th nomination for both the show and its hosts. “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” receives two nominations, including Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show and Outstanding Game Show Host for Meredith Vieira, who has won in this category twice before, in 2005 and 2009.

Joining “General Hospital” with a nod for Outstanding Drama Series is “All My Children” with its final nomination in the category. The Lead Actress and Actor categories comprise a distinguished list of previous winners. Emmy winner Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard on “All My Children”), six-time winner Erika Slezak (Viki Lord on “One Life to Live”) and last year’s winner, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos on “General Hospital”), are each honored with nominations in the Lead Actress category. Emmy winner Maurice Benard (Michael ‘Sonny” Corinthos, Jr. on “General Hospital”), six-time winner Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer on “General Hospital”), two-time winner Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard on “All My Children”) and Emmy winner Robert S. Woods (Bo Buchanan on “One Life to Live”) each receive nominations in the Lead Actor category.

Emmy winner Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis on “General Hospital”) receives a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, along with previous nominees Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber on “General Hospital”) and Melissa Claire Egan for her role as Annie Chandler on “All My Children.” Four-time Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson (Lucky Spencer on “General Hospital”) receives a nomination in the Supporting Actor category, along with third-time nominee Bradford Anderson (Damien Spinelli on “General Hospital”), Sean Blakemore (Shawn Butler, “General Hospital”) and second-time nominee Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake on “General Hospital”).

Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos on “General Hospital”) receives his second consecutive nomination in the Outstanding Younger Actor category, along with first-time nominees Nathan Parsons (Ethan Lovett on “General Hospital”) and Eddie Alderson (Matthew Buchanan on “One Life to Live”).

ABC receives three nominations for the “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing – Live Action, Outstanding Special Class Directing and Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control.
