| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Scared Shrekless Halloween is Shrek’s favorite holiday – but instead of the usual tricks or treats, Shrek ups the ante and challenges the gang to spend the night telling scary stories. The last one to be scared Shrekless wins. Scared Shrekless features the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas. The DVD includes a Shrek-ed out parody of Michael Jackson’s epic music video “Thriller.”
Monsters Vs. Aliens: Pumpkins From Outer Space Susan, B.O.B., The Missing Link, and Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D., are back as special operatives dispatched to investigate a mysterious alien presence on Halloween. As the night unravels the innocent-looking pumpkins are revealed for what they really are – mutant aliens! Luckily the monsters are there to smash the mutants’ wicked scheme to take over Earth.
Amazon.com Scared Shrekless Scared Shrekless is a Halloween special that skews more adult in humor, offering viewers three short, "scary" stories as told by Gingy, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and Shrek. On Halloween night, Shrek and friends hold a contest of wits to find the King of Halloween--the one who is the bravest and can survive the longest in Lord Farquaad's abandoned castle. The final story, which will be lost on younger audiences, parodies the 1973 film The Exorcist, complete with head-spinning and projectile vomiting. This movie also comes with several special features, the most exciting of which is a parody of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video. In the styling of a typical end-of-a-Shrek-movie musical number, Donkey, Fiona, Puss in Boots, and company perform an enjoyable homage to the King of Pop. Scared Shrekless has its moments but it does lack some of the wit that made the original Shrek movies so great. Overall, this movie is amusing but is best suited for an older audience. --Alex Westrom
Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space is short, smart, and entertaining. While physical humor and an easy-to-follow plot line will keep kids laughing, timely quotes from iconic movies like Apocalypse Now and Scarface will keep adult viewers smiling. This Halloween flick opens in Modesto, California, where evil aliens have turned all of the town's pumpkins into mutant, candy-craving jack-o'-lanterns who want to destroy the world. Susan (Reese Witherspoon), B.O.B. (Seth Rogen), the Missing Link (Will Arnett), and Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. (Hugh Laurie), are dispatched by the US government to save the town from the evil alien scheme and crush the mutant pumpkins before it's too late. With an all-star cast, this movie stays true to the form and the styling of the original Monsters vs. Aliens movie and is sure to be a family favorite. --Alex Westrom
