Have you ever wanted to be an Angel? Here’s your chance! To celebrate one of the most talked about shows of the season, ABC will give fans an opportunity to look and feel like an “Angel” for the day, in the heart of New York. The all-day event taking place on Wednesday, September 21, in New York’s Military Island from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., will bring a taste of Charlie’s Angels Miami Townsend Agency. Professional makeup artists on hand will offer up quick mini-makeovers with Covergirl products to transform passersby into fearless, glamorous “Angels.” Once each alluring transformation is complete, event goers can strike their best “Angels” pose and have their photo taken in a selection of scenes that will appear on the large jumbotron in the middle of Times Square. Participants will receive a branded photo in addition to having their big screen image emailed to them to share with friends and family. “Charlie’s Angels” premieres Thursday, September 22 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC.
A live one-hour special, “Dancing with the Stars: Meet the Cast,” airing Tuesday, September 20 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on the ABC Television Network, features the most exciting moments from Monday night’s performances, along with commentary from the judges and never-before-seen footage from the teams’ first weeks of training. Following the one-hour special will be the Season Premiere of “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” at 9:00 pm ET, with musical performances by Harry Connick, Jr. and LMFAO. By evening’s end, the first couple of the season will be sent home.
The New York Yankees have invited television icon and “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly” host Regis Philbin to be honored with the ceremonial first pitch on Monday, September 19, 2011, prior to the 1:05 p.m. game vs. the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees are honoring the Emmy-winning New Yorker in recognition of his nearly three decades as host of LIVE, which originated in 1983 as a local New York program. Twenty-nine seasons later, LIVE is one of the most successful shows in daytime television history. The honor comes as Philbin prepares to leave the program, with his last day on air scheduled for November 18, 2011.
Although you will have to wait until the season 13 premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ on Monday, September 19, to see it, ABC has released this featurette with production designer James Yarnell as he discusses the brand new set coming to the popular reality celebrity dance competition.
Among the enhancements to the set, which has been built completely from scratch as opposed to other seasons: the dance floor is raised above the audience and judges and will provide a full 360 degree view; the set size has expanded to exploit the studio space, including the use of three balcony tiers; the celebrities and professionals will make their grand entrance through the center of the stage as opposed to the staircases on the sides; and it will feature what may be ‘the largest mirror ball in North America.’
In honor of its new drama, Pan Am, which debuts on the ABC television network on Sunday, September 25 at 10 pm ET/PT, ABC has produced a web-based documentary titled ‘The Real Stewardesses of Pan Am’ which uses archival footage and photos, along with brand new interviews with former Pan Am stewardesses to tell their story at the dawn of the ‘Pan Am Era.’
According to 22-year veteran Sheila Riley, ‘being a Pan Am stewardess was a lifestyle, not a career.’ The former stewardesses reminisce fondly about serving for the airline and its passengers and how air travel, which was much more of a luxury than necessity, has changed in the past four decades.
On April 6th, 2009, 11-year-old Carl Walker took his own life, forever changing the Walker family. Carl had told his mother, Sirdeaner Walker, about incidents of being bullied at school. Since his tragic death, the family have focused their energies on trying to help others by lobbying for new state and federal laws against bullying.
With exception to the Fashion Week-long ‘In-Flight Experience‘ from ABC’s ‘Pan Am’ which we shared yesterday, last night’s epic third annual Fashion’s Night Out event had me
running cabbing uptown and downtown, east side and west side throughout Manhattan in an attempt to catch everything I could Disney. From Disney Store, who participated for the first time, to Lisa Perry hosting ‘Pan Am’ to Opening Ceremony’s Muppet X collection with Miss Piggy, it was all one huge thrill ride of ‘E Ticket’ proportions (bad airline/Disney theme park double entendre-intended).
The hosts of “The View” will introduce the world television premiere performance of the brand new Disney stage musical, “NEWSIES,” adapted from the popular Disney film starring Christian Bale, live, Monday, September 19 at 11 am ET on ABC. Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who wrote music for the 1992 motion picture Newsies and has won eight Oscars for such memorable scores as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas, is a featured guest and will help introduce the cast performance medley of both “Santa Fe” and “Seize The Day.” “NEWSIES” is presented by Paper Mill Playhouse.
Today saw the first day of the return of Pan Am to the Big Apple in twenty years as ABC brought its upcoming drama of the same name to the streets of Manhattan to promote the show during New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
The ‘In-Flight Experience’ was initially scheduled to take place at Lincoln Center, but an unexpected blip in the radar caused a temporary re-routing to Columbus Circle where Pan Am ‘stewardesses’ are offering up free coffee and tea to commuters and tourists alike. Still, despite the change in flight plans, stewardesses could be found trekking in perfect formation between Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center, where they were handing out official ‘Pan Am’ track bags along with the occasional coveted ‘Pan Am’ Explorer bag to the fortunate few who found a ‘boarding pass’ in their track bag.
Lady Gaga will perform live in front of a crowd of an estimated one million people in Times Square just before the ball drops on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012,” Saturday, December 31 on the ABC Television Network. To mark the 40th anniversary of the cherished New Year’s Eve celebration, the festivities will begin at 8:00 p.m., ET with a new two-hour special entitled “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party.” Lady Gaga is a true phenomenon; her third studio album, “Born This Way,” was released on May 23, 2011 and broke the iTunes record for the fastest rise to No. 1 on release day. The album hit No. 1 in 22 of 23 iTunes stores worldwide. The first single from the album, title track “Born This Way,” set a music industry record by becoming the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies (five days after its February 11 release).
