ABC Family announced today the pick-up of two half-hour comedy series ‘Mystery Girls,’ starring and executive produced by Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, and ‘Young & Hungry,’ starring Emily Osment, from executive producer Ashley Tisdale. Production will commence on both series in Los Angeles in early 2014, and both will premiere in 2014.
Dedicated to expanding its network and channel brands and content across multiple platforms and devices, Disney/ABC Television Group announced today that the new WATCH ABC Family authenticated service will launch on Monday, January 6, 2014. Similar to DATG’s WATCH ABC and suite of WATCH DISNEY services, the new WATCH ABC Family offering will allow viewers with participating TV subscription services access to 24/7 live viewing of the network, as well as continued on demand access to such popular series as ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ ‘Switched at Birth,’ ‘The Fosters,’ ‘Baby Daddy’ and ‘Melissa & Joey’ at home and on-the-go via a wide array of devices.

The ABC Television Network proudly announced today that it has extended its relationship with the popular ‘Peanuts’ animated specials by Charles M. Schulz in a deal with Peanuts Worldwide LLC and Lee Mendelson Film Productions until 2020. The beloved Emmy Award-winning specials created by Charles M. Schulz and produced and animated by Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez began airing on ABC in December 2001. The ‘Peanuts’ animated holiday specials include ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,’ ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ and the iconic ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas,’ which first aired on television in 1965, and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the coming year.
The ABC Television Network announced midseason premiere dates today for new series ‘The Assets,’ ‘Killer Women,’ ‘Mind Games’ and ‘Mixology.’ In addition, the network has scheduled premiere dates for the new season of ‘The Bachelor’ with Juan Pablo Galavis, critically acclaimed comedy ‘Suburgatory,’ and the cooking competition series ‘The Taste,’ now expanded to two hours. Previously announced new drama series ‘Resurrection’ will now premiere at 9:00 pm on Sunday, March 9 and ‘Revenge’ will move into the 10:00 p.m. time slot on that date.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 2
As part of ABC’s annual “Home for the Holidays” campaign, and in support of Disney’s company-wide “Heroes Work Here” initiative, which served as the foundation for a recent Veteran’s hiring event at Walt Disney World featuring a keynote address by First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, ABC will honor our military veterans with several new elements this year by premiering five short films written, directed, and produced by U.S. Veterans highlighting the creative work from our military servicemen and women.
In the first Christmas lights competition of its kind for television, 4 families will compete each week to transform their homes for the holidays in just 21 days. These 20 families were chosen through an extensive nationwide search based on their previous elaborate Christmas light displays, incredible choreography and over-the-top designs. At stake is a total of $250,000 in prizes, with $50,000 awarded each episode.
‘The Great Christmas Light Fight’ will air on December 9 at 9:00 pm ET/PT and with back-to-back on episodes on both December 16 at 9:00 pm ET/PT and December 23 at 9:00 pm ET/PT. Michael Moloney & Sabrina Soto (both of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’) will serve as judges for the series.
On Thanksgiving night, November 28 at 9:30 pm ET/PT, the ABC Television Network will air the 90-minute special, ‘Lady Gaga & The Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular.’ The broadcast offers an avant-garde twist on the classic holiday variety show as Lady Gaga goes backstage with The Muppets, making a performance dream come true for the multi-platinum singer songwriter when they combine forces to sing holiday favorites and Lady Gaga hits.
‘I was so excited when ABC called me about doing a holiday special this year,’ said Lady Gaga. ‘I knew it just wouldn’t be a complete night of laughter and memories without The Muppets! Can’t wait to see the gang again and I hope Miss Piggy’s still not mad about Kermit. We’re just friends!’
