Disney/ABC Television Group Scores 60 Primetime Emmy Nominations

The Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) captured 60 Primetime Emmy nominations, it was announced today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This total reflects nominations for ABC Television Network, ABC Studios, ABC.com and Disney Channel programming.

The ABC Television Network received 56 nominations, including a Drama Series and Writing in a Drama Series nomination for previous Emmy winner “Lost,” produced by ABC Studios, and key nominations in the acting categories: Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Sally Field for “Brothers and Sisters”; Christina Applegate captured a Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nomination for her starring role in “Samantha Who?”; Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson both were recognized in the Supporting Actress Drama category for their roles on “Grey’s Anatomy”; “Lost’s” Michael Emerson, a past Emmy winner for a guest appearance on “The Practice,” captured his third straight Supporting Actor nomination as the mysterious Benjamin Linus; William Shatner was recognized with a Supporting Actor nomination for the last season of “Boston Legal,” along with his co-star Christian Clemenson; Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nominations went to previous Emmy nominees Kristin Chenoweth for “Pushing Daisies” and Vanessa Williams for “Ugly Betty.”

ABC Music Lounge to Exclusively Offer New Shakira Single for Free

ABC will exclusively debut international superstar Shakira’s first single, “She-Wolf,” from her upcoming album on Epic Records, in the ABC Music Lounge. The song will be available to download for free at www.abcmusiclounge.com starting Sunday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m., ET/4:00 p.m., PT, until Monday, July 13, at midnight, ET/9:00 p.m., PT.

Shakira wrote and produced “She-Wolf” with John Hill (Santogold). The full album (title to be announced) is due out in October 2009.

Shakira boasts a string of chart-topping hits in both English and Spanish and sales of over 50 million records. Her last project, “Oral Fixation Volumes 1&2,” has sold in excess of 8 million albums worldwide, with the singles “La Tortura” and “Hips Don’t Lie” having earned over 10 million digital downloads.

Audition Information for ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ Tenth Anniversary Edition Announced

Who wants to be a contestant on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” Here’s how to apply for the highly-anticipated 10th anniversary edition hosted by Regis Philbin and running for 11 nights in August, Sundays-Thursdays at (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) from August 9 to August 23 on the ABC Television Network.

There are multiple ways (see below) to become a contestant on “Millionaire,” including the original phone game that was used when the show premiered in 1999 and video submissions – an all-new method that will enable people to upload videos of themselves directly to the show’s producers. Would-be contestants can use more than one method to try to get on the show but will only be selected one time. New ABC Reality Experiment ‘Dating in the Dark’ Answers Question: Is Love Blind?

Looks will be taken out of the equation when men and women get to know each other and connect in total darkness on the premiere of the one-hour reality series, “Dating in the Dark,” MONDAY, JULY 20 (10:02-11:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Hosted by Rossi Morreale, the six-episode “Dating in the Dark” is a sexy social experiment asking the age-old question, “Is Love Blind?” Each week three new single men and three new single women, all looking for love, will live in separate wings of a house and remain totally sequestered from the opposite sex. While they’ll have no chance of seeing each other in the light, they will have the opportunity to date in a completely dark room. The participants won’t be able to see anything, but the audience will get to see EVERYTHING first hand with the help of high-tech infrared cameras.

ABC Entertainment Group Announces Reorganization of Creative, Business and Operational Functions

Completing a process begun in January, ABC Entertainment Group President Stephen McPherson today announced the Group’s final organizational structure. Effective immediately, Business Affairs, Business Development, Casting, Program Planning, Scheduling and Distribution will be managed as integrated areas, while ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios retain separate creative teams, with each combining development and current programming roles.

In making the announcement, Mr. McPherson said: “The new organization will strengthen our position as a top quality content engine and promote a healthier business model to sustain it. The structural changes we have put in place ensure a cohesive vision from a creative, production and business standpoint, and will make us a stronger, more efficient team more seamlessly focused on common goals.”

Walt Disney Animation Studios Announces First ABC Television Special this Holiday Season

The first television special for ABC produced by the Walt Disney Animation Studios,  “Prep & Landing” reveals the never-before-told tale of an elite unit of Elves known as Prep & Landing. Every Christmas Eve this high-tech organization ensures that homes around the world are properly prepared for the yearly visit from The Big Guy, their code name for Santa Claus. The animated special will air during the 2009-10 television season.

ABC Launches YouTube Channel

ABC News announced today the launch of its branded channel on YouTube, youtube.com/ABCNEWS, featuring short form news content. The channel will include breaking news as it happens, highlights from newsmaker interviews, as well as ABC News programming from morning to night — including “Good Morning America,” “World News with Charles Gibson,” “Nightline,” “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” “20/20” and “Primetime” limited series.

“We look forward to expanding our online audience for ABC News reporting on our new YouTube channel,” said David Westin, president, ABC News. “ABC News audiences will now be able to watch us on one of the top video portals on the Internet.”
