Disney Japanese Pocket Puzzle Disney Japanese Pocket Puzzle

You may be familiar with our Fiendish Japanese Pocket Puzzles. These solid metal puzzles are almost too deviously evil to inflict on you and your friends. Now we have some highly collectable Disney themed versions of pocket puzzle which are just as tantalizingly frustrating as the originals. In the Alice in Wonderland version you need to help Alice navigate the Queen’s maze. Winnie the Pooh can’t seem to get himself out of Rabbit’s hole, can you offer any assistance? Mickey and Minnie keys need to be separated, but it’s much harder than it looks. These Disney Japanese Pocket Puzzles are based on classic mechanical puzzles from around the world. What makes these puzzles so appealing is how you always seem to be on the verge of solving them. The precision metal casting becomes apparent as you try to separate the parts of each one to solve it. They are just sooo close to coming apart you will be cringing with delight. Solutions are NOT included… but maybe if you call us and ask us nicely we’ll give you a hint… that is as soon as we solve ours.

Disney’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Becomes Sixth Film to Reach $1B in Box Office Sales Worldwide

Tim Burton’s epic fantasy adventure “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland” reached a historic milestone today, passing the $1 billion dollar mark in global box office. “Alice” becomes only the sixth title to join this exclusive list and the third most popular non-sequel in motion picture history behind only “Titanic” and “Avatar.”

“We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to showcase such an amazing 3-D film from visionary director Tim Burton and the creative talents of Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Our marketing teams joined with our exhibition partners to find every opportunity to bring this creative masterpiece to fans around the world.”

“Alice” began setting records during its opening weekend (March 5-7), becoming the biggest March opening in industry history, the biggest 3-D opening ever and biggest career opening for director Tim Burton. It also became The Walt Disney Studios’ biggest opening for a non-sequel.

Domestically, “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland” has surpassed $332 million at the box office and is officially the third highest-grossing film in The Walt Disney Studios’ history, behind only “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “Finding Nemo.” It currently ranks as the 19th most successful film in domestic box office history.

Simultaneously, “Alice” began to conquer audiences around the globe, tallying more than $667 million to date, en route to becoming Disney’s biggest overseas release of all-time. In Japan alone, “Alice” has maintained its #1 position for six weeks, resulting in more than $108 million to date. The United Kingdom added more than $64 million, while France, Russia and Italy all have topped $42 million. Germany , Australia, China and Mexico have surpassed the $30 million mark, while Spain and Brazil’s cumulative totals each exceeded $25 million. The movie continues to entertain theatrical audiences in many countries throughout the world.

Just as the film crosses the $1 billion global theatrical box office threshold, consumers will now be able to own this historic film for themselves. “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland” makes its home entertainment debut as a Disney 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy), 1-Disc Blu-ray and 1-Disc DVD on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in North America, China, Mexico and Italy. Availability in other international markets will occur throughout June, July and August starting with Belgium (June 2), the Netherlands (June 2), the United Kingdom (June 4) and Argentina (June 9).

LA’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to Host ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Exhibition

In celebration of Alice in Wonderland’s Blu-ray™ and DVD debut on June 1, 2010, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE), in partnership with Disney Consumer Products (DCP), are unveiling a first-of-its-kind Alice In Wonderland Exhibition in the FIDM Museum & Galleries at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles.  The exhibition is free to the public and opens on Thursday, May 27 and will run through September 30, 2010.

Fans of the film and fashion alike will find a new appreciation for the craftsmanship, artistry, and design behind the making of the costumes and merchandise at this particular exhibit that is comprised of three distinct parts: (1) Original costumes from the film designed by two time Academy Award® winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Best Achievement in Costume Design for Memoirs of a Geisha in 2005 and Best Costume Design for Chicago in 2002),  (2) The Edgier Side of Alice inspired clothing and products from DCP and designed by a variety of celebrities, designers and fashion icons (e.g. Sue Wong, Tom Binns, Avril Lavigne, etc.), and (3) Alice inspired gowns created by FIDM designer graduates with FIDM Fashion Mentor and Instructor Nick Verreos.

Colleen Atwood’s work portrays a reinvention of the madcap look of “Alice in Wonderland” for the 21st Century.  Featured on display will be her original costumes from the film, including Johnny Depp’s original Mad Hatter fighter garment, a few of Mia Wasikowska’s Alice dresses and Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen Dress, as well as costume sketches, hats and props from the film.

In addition to the original costumes on display, there will be modern-day “Edgier Side of Alice” inspired clothing, jewelry, accessories and collections designed by fashion icons such as Sue Wong, Tom Binns and Avril Lavigne.  This display by Disney Consumer Products illustrates its collaboration with these renowned designers in order to create an interpretive line that brings the allure and mystery of the film and characters to life.

FIDM will also play an active role in the exhibition. In collaboration with Disney’s fashion team, the college challenged six Designer grads to partake in a FIDM SuperLab project led by Nick Verreos (Star of “Project Runway”, Graduate and Instructor at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and NIKOLAKI Owner/Designer).  Since the ALICE IN WONDERLAND film is all about discovery, FIDM Fashion Designers were challenged to discover their talents in the world of Alice by designing and producing couture gowns inspired by six iconic characters in the film.  Garments are couture glamour meets the red carpet – unconventional, unexpected, Alice in “Underland” – where nothing is what it seems! Their creations will be on display for all to see alongside Colleen Atwood and DCP’s collections.

Exhibition Gallery Hours & Details:
Admission to the exhibition is free of charge to the public and opens on Thursday, May 27 and runs until September 30, 2010. Video: ‘Creating Wonderland’ – A Behind the Scenes Look at ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Progressions

Earlier this week, Walt Disney Studios released this amazing video that shows a behind the scenes peek at the progressions used to mix live action with computer generated imagery to form some of the incredible sights found in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Much of the live-action is filmed against a greenscreen using a technology called chroma key (most often used in television weather reports) in which everything that is green (such as the background, the frog standees and even some of the people) is removed automatically from the final product, allowing them to mix the images together seamlessly.
