In honor of the summer slowly crawling towards an end, the Automobile Association of America (AAA) is honoring those families looking for one more family vacation fling by posting the results of a survey they put to their lodging and restaurant inspectors in search of the ideal family hotel.
Although not explicitly numbered, the second spot on the released list of the top ten is Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (a 3-diamond resort) located at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
According to the report, ‘If your kids love animals, this is the place for them. Hundreds of animals are represented in the 40 plus acre wildlife sanctuary, and can be seen roaming about the savannahs from various locations around the hotel. Rooms with balconies can get a round-the-clock view of these wonderful creatures. The resort caters to kids, both old and young. The authentic African architecture is carried through the entire property, and interactive exhibits make learning fun for the kids. Kids’ programs run all year long. This resort is very popular and very busy 365 days of the year.’

This debut marks the opening of the last phase of this Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort. The final wing of Kidani Village will offer an additional 160 two-bedroom, savanna-view villas, plus windowed hallways to offer Guests clear views of the animals. Because of Pembe savanna’s unique location, it will not connect to the main savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, making it exclusive to Kidani Village Guests.
Animals that can be found in this new area may include okapi, yellow-backed duiker, Red River hogs, nyala, impala, waterbuck, spur-winged geese and blue crane.
According to Animal Curator Greg Peccie, creating this new savanna required contributions from many different teams – including Animal Programs, Horticulture, Operations and Walt Disney Imagineering – that worked together to design, build and launch this new area into operation.
Building on the established lines of outdoor furniture inspired by Disney’s Grand Floridian and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, AGIO will introduce a line of furniture based on Disney’s Yacht Club later this fall.
