Over the past couple of months, Walt Disney Studios has been slowly ramping up its ‘For Your Consideration’ website (available at WaltDisneyStudiosAwards.com), dedicated to promoting various aspects of its films for consideration by the voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Oscar nominations/awards.
The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, today announced the nominees for its 40th Annual Annie Awards, recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation. The Annie Awards cover 30 categories and include Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Special Production, Commercials, Short Subjects and Outstanding Individual Achievements.
Across the film and television categories Disney has a strong showing this year (full list of nominees and respective categories below), particularly with Pixar’s Brave, Disney Animation’s Wreck-It Ralph and Disney Animation’s ‘TRON: Uprising.’ Disney Junior newcomers ‘Doc McStuffins’ and ‘Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess’ also managed to be recognized for their efforts.
We have yet to see any official announcement from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, but thanks to a new listing from DisneyStore.com, we have now learned that plans to release Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie on Blu-ray have moved up from the original reported date of January 15, 2013 to a fairly official date of January 8, 2013. Note, however, that Disney Store lists only the non 3D version of the release whereas other retailers, such as Amazon.com, are listing the Disney 3D Blu-ray version
The listing essentially also confirms much of what we previously reported regarding the bonus features. As a recap, the bonus features are recapped below, as per Disney Store:
Featuring text books including Scareonomics and a spin on the classic self-help book, I’m OK, You’re OK (titled I’m Scary, You’re Scary), the new teaser poster for Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University was unveiled earlier today exclusively by Fandango.
The article also shares a few more details about the film but basically confirms an earlier report of ours that Mike Wazowski and Sulley do in fact join the Oozma Kappa (speaking of OK) fraternity.
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.
Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) taps Jennifer Lee to join Chris Buck at the helm of its 53rd full-length animated feature Frozen, which is slated for the big screen on November 27, 2013. Lee, who has contributed to the film’s screenplay, is one of the screenplay writers of this year’s hit arcade-hopping adventure Wreck-It Ralph.
Ahead of any official announcements, we have learned that when Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie arrives on Disney 3D Blu-ray on January 15, 2013, it will count a brand new animated short amongst its bonus features.
The short, titled ‘Captain Sparky vs the Flying Saucers’ clocks in at just under 2 minutes, 20 seconds and was written by long-time Burton collaborator Derek Frey, who is also credited as a co-producer of the feature-length Frankenweenie.
Other bonus features expected to included with the release consist of at least three deleted scenes, the ‘Pet Sematary’ music video by Plain White T’s, a 20-min documentary titled ‘Miniatures in Motion’ and another half-hour long segment simply titled ‘Frankenweenie.’
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has now confirmed our initial report about an as-of-yet unannounced special musical episode of ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse’ titled ‘Minnie’s the Wizard of Dizz.’ Also confirmed — as clearly depicted in the DVD art pictured here — is that it will be an MMC take on the classic L. Frank Baum story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 85th Academy Awards out of fifty-six films that had originally qualified in the category.
Among the shortlisted titles is Disney’s Paperman, directed by John Kahrs, which is currently playing nationally in front of Wreck-it Ralph from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The 85th Academy Awards final nominations (3 – 5 in this particular category) will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 am PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
