6564576295 7065a01c8a o 106x160 Photo: Beasts Castle in New Fantasyland Expansion at Magic KingdomAdmittedly I don’t make it a habit to check out every over-the-fence type shot of the work being done on the New Fantasyland Expansion at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, but when I came across this photo as it was posted on Tumblr, I knew it was something worth sharing.

The photo of Beast’s Castle was taken earlier this month by Matthew Cooper and shared on his Flickr account which shares additional images from Walt Disney World and other locations worth taking a look at.

The weenie of the New Fantasyland Expansion at the Magic Kingdom, the Beast’s Castle sits atop the Be Our Guest Restaurant which will be the first eatery to offer counter service for lunch while being a full reservation service dinner and will feature three rooms representative of the castle plus many special effects including a 1:1 scale fully articulated audio animatronic Lumiere, part of the Disney living character initiative (LCI). Weenies were so named because the large, fanciful objects help draw the attention of the guests further into the park. The term was said to be coined by Walt Disney himself who took the namesake from the ability to coax his dog into doing things in exchange for a hot dog.

Beast’s Castle also makes use of another Walt Disney Imagineering staple, forced perspective. For example, the windows gradually become smaller and closer together (smaller floors) as your eyes scale up the building, helping to give the impression that it is taller than it really is.

The Beauty and the Beast portion of New Fantasyland which includes a story time meet and greet with Belle that takes you from Maurice’s cottage through the magic mirror to the castle to meet Belle and Gaston’s village featuring Gaston’s tavern will open beginning fall of 2012. Thanks to Matthew Cooper for allowing us to share his photo.

D23 Poster DirApprovedFinal v41 128x160 Tangled Ever After to Play Before Beauty and the Beast 3DThe Walt Disney Studios proudly announced today that directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, the talented team behind Disney Animation Studio’s global blockbuster Tangled, will premiere a delightful new animated short film spotlighting the royal wedding of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn Rider – a.k.a Eugene – (Zachary Levi) in front of each screening of Beauty and the Beast in 3D, which opens on January 13, 2012.

By popular demand, Greno and Howard are bringing back some of Disney’s most beloved characters when Tangled Ever After picks up where Tangled left off. However, when Pascal and Maximus, as flower chameleon and ring bearer, respectively, lose the gold bands, a frenzied search and recovery mission gets underway. Will Maximus and Pascal save the day and make it to the church in time? And will they ever get Flynn’s nose right?

Tangled Ever After is the perfect accompaniment to Beauty and the Beast, which is returning to the big screen in Disney Digital 3D™ and introducing a whole new generation to the Disney classic with stunning new 3D imagery. ‘Little Mermaid,’ ‘Finding Nemo,’ ‘Monsters Incorporated’ to be Released in 3D in 2012/13

On the heels of the phenomenal success of The Lion King 3D – which will cross the $80 million mark at the domestic box office today – The Walt Disney Studios has announced limited theatrical engagements for four of its classic films for the first time in 3D. The following titles from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios will be released in 2012 and 2013:

  • Beauty and the Beast – January 13, 2012
  • Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012
  • Disney/Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. – January 18, 2013 (Monsters University, a prequel to the original film, arrives in theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 21, 2013)
  • The Little Mermaid – September 13, 2013

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” said Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

Originally released in 1991, Beauty and the Beast is a classic “tale as old as time” that follows the adventures of Belle, a bright young woman imprisoned in the castle of a mysterious beast and his enchanted staff, who must learn the most important lesson of all – that true beauty comes from within. Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Picture, earning an additional five Oscar® nominations and winning two. It has grossed $380.4 million worldwide.

First released in 2003, Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo takes audiences into a whole new world in this undersea adventure about family, courage and challenges. When Marlin, an overly cautious clownfish living in the Great Barrier Reef, helplessly watches his son get scooped up by a diver, he must put aside his fears of the ocean and leave the safety of his coral enclave to find Nemo. Buoyed by the companionship of Dory, a forgetful but relentlessly optimistic fish, Marlin finds himself the unlikely hero in a seemingly impossible land-and-sea rescue. Finding Nemo won an Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for three others. With a total of $867.6 million worldwide, it was the second highest-grossing film of 2003.

In 2001, Disney/Pixar released Monsters, Inc. Lovable Sulley and his wisecracking sidekick Mike Wazowski are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. But when a little girl named Boo wanders into their world, it’s up to Sulley and Mike to keep her out of sight and get her back home. Monsters, Inc. shattered every DVD-era home entertainment sales record when 11 million DVD/VHS copies were sold during its first week of release. It won an Academy Award® for Best Song and has grossed $526.9 million worldwide.

Released in 1989, The Little Mermaid, stars Ariel, a fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, off on the adventure of a lifetime with her best friend, the adorable Flounder, and the reggae-singing Caribbean crab Sebastian. But it will take all of her courage and determination to make her dreams come true and save her father’s beloved kingdom from the sneaky sea witch Ursula. One of the most celebrated animated films of all time, The Little Mermaid was nominated for three Academy Awards®, winning two. It has grossed $228.9 million worldwide.

Disney On Ice to Revive ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Show

Shortly after our pre-announcement of the Phineas and Ferb Live! Tour, Exceutive VP Nicole Feld of Feld Entertainment (the producers of Disney Live! and Disney On Ice touring shows), offered us her appreciation on Twitter and also clued us in on an upcoming Disney On Ice announcement.

@ Thanks for The "Phineas & Ferb Live" blog post! Appreciate the mention. Coming soon - info on Disney on Ice!
Disney On Ice to Revive Beauty and the Beast Show
@NicoleFeld
Nicole Feld/Feld Ent

Although the announcement still has yet to be made, both the Disney Live! and Disney On Ice Facebook pages recently teased the following:

‘Disney Live! has another great announcement to make. For now, we’ll give you a hint: The first animated feature to win a Golden Globe for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, features a girl dreaming of “adventure in the great wide somewhere” and unbeknown to her, her story has become a “tale as old as time.”’

According to Wikipedia, the Disney On Ice production of Beauty and the Beast first ran from 1997 – 1997 and returned 2000 – 2004, making this the third time the show has been performed if it indeed turns out to be the case.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ 3D Blu-ray 5-Disc Set to be Released in October

61H Xutd6tL 127x160 Beauty and the Beast 3D Blu ray 5 Disc Set to be Released in OctoberAhead of any official announcement, we have learned that the 5-disc edition of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition (now available for pre-order Beauty and the Beast 3D Blu ray 5 Disc Set to be Released in October) will be released in 3D Blu-ray format on October 4, 2011, alongside The Lion King.

At first glance, it does not not appear that the 3D Blu-ray edition of Beauty and the Beast will contain any content not already released in the 2D Diamond Edition released last year. Barring any additional information, the only difference appears to be the inclusion of the 3D version which, of course, will require the use of a Sony PlayStation 3 or 3D blu-ray player, a converter and a 3D capable television.

The 3D edition of the film was originally planned for a theatrical release on Valentine’s Day in 2010 but was postponed until 2011 until it was eventually removed from the slate.

We will provide more information on the home release as it becomes available to us.

‘The Lion King,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ Others to Make 3D Blu-ray Debut in 2011

LionKingBD3D packshot 130x160 The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Others to Make 3D Blu ray Debut in 2011The Walt Disney Company announced plans today to release at least fifteen of its films on Disney 3D Blu-ray throughout 2011. Among the titles scheduled to be released are: The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and new films TRON: Legacy and Tangled.

Bolt, which has already been released as part of certain 3D Blu-ray packages, will also be available for everyone to own in 3D, as will Meet the Robinsons, G-FORCE, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Chicken Little which has been available in 3D via on-demand services.

In addition to the film being in 3D, each disc will include thematically linked 3D menus, 3D previews of coming-attractions trailers and an introduction to the eye-popping world of Disney Blu-ray 3D featuring beloved characters Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King.

“As our contemporary library of 3D content continues to grow, and the original artists and filmmakers meticulously ‘dimensionalize’ their work for release on the Blu-ray 3D format, we will be offering movie-lovers the most incredible in-home entertainment experience they will ever have,” noted Lori MacPherson, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. “In addition to offering new releases day-and-date in 3D and further cementing our leadership in the marketplace, we’re thrilled that consumers will have the exclusive Blu-ray 3D experience of two of the most celebrated Disney animated features, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast in their homes.”

No announcement of Toy Story 3 has been made as of yet, although the company made intentions last year of releasing it in 2010 and even gave hints at its release although it never materialized.

Interestingly enough, word was that Beauty and the Beast 3D, while released internationally, failed to see its release in 2010 because consumer demand for 3D at home was still considered in its infancy. This move suggests the feelings were quite the opposite, that a home video release appeared to be the wiser financial investment for the company.
