Thomas Kinkade’s Adds ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to Disney Dreams Collection

'Beauty and the Beast Falling in Love' by Thomas KinkadeAdmittedly we’re a little late to the party, especially since we’ve traditionally been so good at revealing Thomas Kinkade’s newest Disney paintings before he does, but as we always say, if it’s not Baroque, don’t fix it.

Enter the sixth and newest entry to Kinkade’s Disney Dreams collection, Beauty and the Beast Falling in Love.

According to the official description for the painting:

Thomas Kinkade has spent over 700 studio hours on this painting which is the most he has ever spent on any painting (Cinderella and Pinocchio had about 300 hours each).

Thomas Kinkade has once again captured an entire Disney story in one image. You’ll find Belle and the Beast on the balcony overlooking the castle which Thomas Kinkade painted with tremendous detail. In addition you’ll find the Beast’s servants Lumiere (as the candlestick), Mrs. Potts (as the candlestick), Cogsworth (as the clock) and Chip (as the teacup) enjoying the love affair brewing between the two.

To the left of the painting you’ll find the infamous rose and above the rose you’ll find Gastone with his torch, leading the mob in search of the Beast. Towards the upper left corner you’ll find Belle’s village and her father’s cottage. Flying in the sky you’ll see Belle’s father and inventor Maurice, flying in his newest bicycle/baloon invention.

You may notice some items in the painting which were not in the movie. Remember, Walt Disney gave Thomas Kinkade full access to the original Disney Archives which means Thom was able to observe Disney works which were not included in the movie.

Kinkade’s Beauty and the Beast Falling in Love is currently accepting pre-orders at Thomas Kinkade galleries and is expected to ship in late October.

Disney Releases Two New ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Apps for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' Enchanted Rose App for iPhoneDisney Interactive has released two new apps for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch in celebration (and promotion) of the October 5 release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition on Disney Blu-ray and DVD. Both apps are free.

The Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Rose app puts a modern spin on the flower petal-pulling ‘she loves me, she loves me not’ classic. After choosing the object of the love test (you can use Facebook Connect to choose a friend, manually enter in a name or skip a name altogether), click, shake or drag the petals off the Enchanted Rose as the app goes back and forth with your destiny on each drop. Shaking the device doesn’t appear to be as responsive as one might expect (and I can’t recommend doing it excessively on an iPad), but touching the rose is ultra-responsive and dragging also works well. If you used Facebook connect to choose the object of your affection, you’ll have the opportunity to post the results to your Facebook wall.

Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' Lumiere app for the iPhoneThe other app is the Beauty and the Beast Lumiere app and unfortunately it’s not nearly as impressive, but makes for a cute show-off app for the fans of the enchanted (and enchanting) candlestick holder. Acting as what amounts to a touch-sensitive lamp, touching Lumiere will light each of his candles, one by one. A fourth touch will extinguish the flames, but the idea is to actually ‘blow’ the candles out by blowing over the device’s microphone. The truth is, however, that virtually any recognizable audible sound will extinguish the flames. Thus when I tried to simply sweet talk Lumiere, the quickly extinguished flames did nothing but lower my self esteem. Truly Lumiere loves me not.

Both apps feature extras such as the ability to pre-order/purchase the Blu-ray/DVD via online retailers or through iTunes and also include a trailer promoting the film.

Update: An iPad-specific version of the Beauty and the Beast Enchanted Rose app has been released.

First Look: Bonus Features for Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Diamond Edition

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just shared sneak peeks at just three of the bonus features you’ll find on the Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition on Disney Blu-ray/DVD when it’s released on October 5.

In the introduction for the picture-in-picture edition, producer Don Hahn sets up the bonus feature by recalling the first time the film had been screened for the public, far from its completion, at the New York Film Festival. With the picture-in-picture feature, you’ll watch both the original theatrical release and the screened edition simultaneously.

In the following excerpt which talks about how Something There was introduced to the film at ‘the eleventh hour,’ replacing Human Again, Alan Menken reminisces about his writing partner, the beloved late Howard Ashman’s reaction to Paige O’Hara’s initial interpretation of the anthem.

Finally, Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts), Robby Benson (Beast) and Paige O’Hara (Belle) talk about recording the music for the film, comparing it to staging a real theatrical production. The clip also includes archival footage of Richard White performing as Gaston.

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.com. For additional information on the bonus features, click here.

As a result of the phenomenal reception that received, we are pleased to bring you this close-up look at the Deluxe Limited Edition Belle dress that we first told you about during a Disney Store Holiday preview we attended in June.

The dress is a follow-up to a limited edition Snow White dress that Disney Store exclusively released in 2009. Like its predecessor, this dress is limited to 2,000 pieces world wide. Available in girls’ sizes 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10, the 80% polyester/20% nylon dress features a satin underskirt, a gold lame bodice with gold brocade ribbon and gold cord accents, decorated with rosettes and gold ribbon and tulle bows and trimmed with ruffles and puff sleeves.

Disney Store ‘Belle’ Limited Edition Doll Now Available for Pre-Order; Hi-Res Photo

The Limited Edition Belle (5000) from Disney StoreDisney Store has provided us with this hi-res photo of the new Disney Store exclusive limited edition Belle doll which will be available to own on October 5, the same day Beauty and the Beast is being released on Disney Blu-ray/DVD.

The exquisite 16″ doll which is limited to just 5,000 pieces worldwide joins Snow White and Tiana as the third princess in this highly collectible series from Disney Store which has consistently and rapidly sold out completely very shortly after their respective releases.

With its intricate details inspired by 18th century French fashion, this beautifully designed Belle doll captures the essence of the Beauty that turned a Beast into a handsome prince. The elegance of her golden satin dress is enhanced by the intricate layers of gathering, each punctuated by a shimmering golden rhinestone. The bodice is accented with five perfect golden roses, each capped by a single glittering stone, and gleaming golden jeweled strands which add to the magical look befitting a Disney Princess. A delicate swag of luxurious chiffon held in place by gorgeous golden roses adds the perfect touch to an exquisite gown. Belle holds a single glittering red rose; a fitting testament to the power of true love.

Belle retails for $99.95 and comes complete with a stand and certificate of authenticity (COA). She will not be bundled with an edition of the film.

To view the hi-res version of the photo, click on the thumbnail pictured above. If the resize icon appears in the photo window, you may click it to view the doll at its full size.
