Today Disney/Pixar (NYSE: DIS) Cars fans teamed up with NASCAR driver Casey Mears to wave the green flag and kick off the Cars ‘Take Flight’ experience during Chase weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Sept. 14-16. In celebration of the world television premieres of the Cars Toons short films ‘Air Mater’ and ‘Moon Mater’ this fall on Disney Channel and the launch of a new Cars ‘Take Flight’ product collection, Disney has created a fun and immersive family experience for race fans to enjoy the world of Cars.
Through Cars-themed ‘pit stops’ at Chicagoland Speedway Kids Zone in Champions Park, the world of Cars is brought to life. Fans can snap photos of the life-size LEGO® replica of Lightning McQueen made of 250,000 bricks, create Cars scenes at the puzzle building station, enjoy story time, race against friends on the Cars video game, see the new collectible die-cast cars and play with the products in the new “Take Flight” collection. The new Cars ‘Take Flight’ product line features die-cast, race tracks, games, books and more and is available now at retailers nationwide.
‘The Cars Toons shorts have done a great job extending the storytelling and fun that happens in the world of Cars,’ said Mary Renner Beech, senior vice president of licensing, Disney/Pixar animation, Disney Consumer Products. ‘Likewise, Disney/Pixar product designers take the story where only a child’s imagination can go through new toys and products. And what better place for us to celebrate the new “Take Flight” collection than right here at the Chicagoland Speedway during an actual NASCAR race weekend.’

Chicagoland Speedway is the first race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this September — the first of ten ‘playoff’ style NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in pursuit of the 2012 championship. The Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series will kick off the weekend on Saturday, Sept. 15 with the GEICO 400 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup concluding the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Inside ‘Disney twenty-three’ Fall 2012 Edition: California Adventure, ‘Frankenweenie,’ ‘Once Upon a Time’

‘Cars Land Racers’ Brings Disney’s Cars Land to World Wide Web
Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort has already released an innovative flash app to promote its new Cars Land expansion, allowing online guests to virtually tour the new land (by car, of course), visiting each of the residents of Radiator Springs to see their wares and learn more about the new shopping, dining and attraction experiences. Guests can even create, customize and share their own virtual Cars-inspired avatar for the virtual road trip.
Now the theme park is revving up to plus the experience, offering a new online game titled ‘Cars Land Racers.’ When the site is complete, guests will be able to visit CARSLANDRACERS.COM and compete their custom vehicle in races against friends and even the Radiator Springs residents on tracks inspired by their respective real-world attractions (Lightning McQueen’s Radiator Springs Racers, Tow Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Flying Tires).
Winning races awards players prizes such as better acceleration, handling and top speeds, while leaderboards show how players stack up against their Facebook friends and worldwide. Add to that, there’s a total of 20 (at launch time) achievements one can unlock by completing various challenges.

VIDEO: Cars Land and Buena Vista Street Tour by Walt Disney Imagineering
With the grand opening of Cars Land and Buena Vista street at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort rapidly approaching, Walt Disney Imagineering has put together this video package of titled ‘what guests can expect.’
Imagineer Kathy Mangum takes us through the final testing and preview stages of Cars Land which includes a look at the stunning audio animatronics used in Radiator Springs Racers as well as a look at other attractions such as Luigi’s Flying Tires and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and dining option Flos V-8 Cafe.
Meanwhile, Imagineer Lisa Girolami walks us through the new Buena Vista Street, examining all of the shops and offerings along with glimpses of entertainment such as Calvin the Cop of the Citizens of Buena Vista Street and the Red Car News Boys, along with characters dressed in the period, such as Pluto, Goofy and Mickey Mouse.

EXCLUSIVE: Cars Land Virtual Reality Video Demo by Walt Disney Imagineering
We have been provided with the following video which features Mark Mine, Director of Technology Concept Design at Walt Disney Imagineering. In the video, Mine talks about the use of WDI’s Digital Immersive Showroom (DISH) technology, which allows Imagineers to use a form of pre-visualization (previz) to explore the new land at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort.
Using a combination of high definition projectors, 3D glasses and cameras to track the Imagineers movements, DISH allows them to virtually walk through Cars Land in real time long before it’s built. This technology gives them the advantage to be able to experience and tweak the guests’ experience long before anything physical is committed. These include possible issues like story, sightlines, audio cues, timing and even audio animatronics, a process that greatly supplements the traditional last phase of the Imagineering process, ‘test and adjust.’

Cars Land Seeks Silent Comedian, Dance Crew Host at Disney California Adventure
In preparation for the launch of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, casting notices have been issued for two separate roles to interact with guests in the new Radiator Springs-themed land.
The first role is for a male physical comedian with physical comedy and improvisational skills. The act is described as ‘non-verbal,’ and as a ‘Charlie Chaplin meets Cirque clown.’ Although every physical type is encouraged to audition, the casting notice notes specifically that deaf actors are also encouraged to audition for the part.
Disney Parks is also looking for a female dancer/host for the role of ‘Spinner,’ the leader of a small dance crew that will partake in an ‘interactive dance party that travels the streets of Cars Land.’ The role requires interaction with both guests as well as an unnamed character from Disney/Pixar’s Cars.
