Beyond the posters and (sometimes loosely) translated titles, there has always been an element of localization in films from Pixar Animation Studios. Famously, in a scene in Toy Story 2, the North American version featured the flag of the United States, while international versions featured a spinning globe.
This same approach is being taken to the streets of the World Grand Prix in Cars 2, but in a much more evolved way. Take this scene for example, which features NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon (as Jeff Gorvette) and Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton:
Now here’s a little known fact: while Lightning McQueen, Mater and Finn McMissile tour North America, Lightning’s buddy and transporter Mack has packed up a touring Cars 2 attraction and has been toting it all around Australia since January.
Walt Disney Studios Australia has offered up this video which features highlights from the tour as well as V8 Supercar driver Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom who talks about his character in the film and the experience of providing a voiceover in an animated film.

At E3, Disney Mobile has announced they will be releasing a new side-scrolling racing game for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch titled ‘Cars 2: Agents of C.H.R.O.M.E.’ later this month in honor of the Disney/Pixar film, Cars 2, opening in theaters nationwide on June 24.
The app will sell for $.99 although Disney Mobile will also be releasing a free app for Cars 2 which features a lite version of the game in addition to movie and video game content such as trailers, images, web links and other fun content.

As Disney Soundsational Summer gets underway, even more excitement is coming to Disneyland Resort, where the premiere of the all-new The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is just the latest milestone in the ongoing expansion of Disney California Adventure park. The distinctive peaks of the Cadillac Range are already visible on the horizon beyond Pacific Wharf, signaling the creation of Cars Land, the all-new 12-acre land set to open in 2012. And work on the newly themed Disney California Adventure entry gate into Buena Vista Street, complete with Red Car Trolleys and the distinctive Carthay Circle Theatre, will continue through 2011 for a 2012 opening.

In the clip, we’re still in Tokyo, this time at the pre-race gathering where superstar Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) meets up with fellow A-Listers Lewis Hamilton and Jeff Gorvette (voiced by NASCAR star Jeff Gordon). Meanwhile, Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) finds himself in awe of all the new sights and sounds of being outside Radiator Springs and ends up sticking his tire in his grill when he makes an ignorant suggestion to the Zen Master. Disney/Pixar has released this new clip from its summer blockbuster sequel, Cars 2, which takes a look at the start of the first of three races of the World Grand Prix: Japan. Eager to take the top prize with his Radiator Springs pinch hitting as his pit crew, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) prepares to go hood-to-hood against F1 champ and number one fan of himself, Francesco (John Turturro). It’s clear from the clip here that McQueen is definitely in it to win it and nothing can stop him from taking the first race.
