Disney Parks Announces Casting Sessions for ‘Big Hero 6′ Hiro Hamada Role

Hiro Hamada from 'Big Hero 6'Just a few hours after officially confirming meet and greet character appearances by Hiro and Baymax from Disney’s upcoming animated feature Big Hero 6 (November 7, 2014), Disney Parks and Resorts has issued casting call notices to fill the role of Hiro.

Although the characters are expected to begin making in-park appearances beginning in the fall, the casting notices fail to mention approximate start dates for the roles, but also note that all look-a-likes (face characters) are expected to perform meet and greets in full costumes as well, so the start date of the position does not appear to directly reflect that of the Big Hero 6 meet and greets.

PATENT: Walking and Talking Characters for Theme Parks (Spoilers)

Chin Strap Sensor for Triggering Control of Walk-Around CharactersIt should be painfully obvious what the image to the left is demonstrating, but do indulge us and allow us to explain just the same. Pictured here is the primary drawing from a recently published patent application titled ‘Chin Strap Sensor for Triggering Control of Walk-Around Characters’ (20140106642) by Walt Disney Imagineering’s Holger Irmler.

The design, which centers around a chest strap, aims to resolve current obstacles in producing a walking, talking, interacting meet and greet character for theme parks, presumably by making the operator even less comfortable in the process. While significant achievements have been made in bringing interactive and animated characters to life, there are still some ongoing challenges.

FIRST LOOK: Doc McStuffins Meet and Greet Character at D23 Expo

Doc McStuffins Meet and Greet at D23 ExpoBroken toys had nothing to fear this past weekend at Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, California as Doc McStuffins made her debut to meet and greet with fans — and cuddles were definitely prescribed. We were fortunate to catch up with Doc between appointments where she proudly displayed one of the in-booth giveaways from Disney Junior: a tote with her own likeness on it.

No word at this time if and when she’ll be making appearances in Disney Parks but given her immense popularity and having been recently added to Disney Junior Live On Stage (alongside Princess Sofia the First who started appearing not too long ago at the Disneyland Resort and just yesterday began appearing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort), it’s a good bet she just may.

Disneyland’s Mysterious Role for ‘Immersive Meet and Greet’ (Frozen’s Kristoff? Marvel’s Avengers?)

A few days ago, we reported that Walt Disney World had issued a casting notice for Anna and Elsa from Walt Disney Animation Studio’s upcoming film, Frozen. Those roles, which called for one 5’3” – 5’7”, caucasian, slender, youthful yet regal and confident (Elsa) and one 5’3” – 5’7”, caucasian, slender, a youthful and outgoing free-spirit (Anna) brought joy to many, but ultimately raised more questions than it answered. What about Disneyland, some wondered, while others pondered what about the primary male lead in the film, Kristoff?

img_9645

Hundreds of fans gathered early this morning at the Magic Kingdom theme park in Walt Disney World to celebrate the induction of Princess Merida from Disney/Pixar’s Brave into the Disney Princess Royal Court. An honor bestowed to just ten before her, Merida arrived at Cinderella Castle in style atop her faithful steed Angus before receiving the crown from none other than her own mother, Queen Elinor, who made an exceptionally rare appearance. The pair were joined by the other members of the Disney Princess Royal Court along with emcee U.S. Gymnastics 2-time Olympic champion, Gabby Douglas, who was joined on stage by her own mother, Natalie Hawkins.

First Look: Merida Meet and Greet Character at Disney Parks (Photos)

Princess Merida Disney Parks Meet and Greet Character

Several photos have begun to surface on the interwebs within the past few hours featuring what appears to be the official meet & greet character for Princess Merida from Disney/Pixar’s Brave. While we have found multiple sources of photos for Merida, none of them explain where the photos originated, but it’s likely they came out of the CinemaCon tradeshow currently taking place in Las Vegas, where movie theater exhibitors were treated to the first 30 minutes of Brave last night in addition to a teaser for the Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University, and the other news regarding The Good Dinosaur and Lee Unkrich’s project set around the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday.

Jake meet & greet character from Disney Junior's 'Jake and the Neverland Pirates'

It’s been a long time coming, but Jake from ‘Jake and the Neverland Pirates,’ the top rated animated program in the Disney Junior programming block on Disney Channel, will finally be landing at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts beginning this month.

We first met Jake back in March during a private event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which is where he will begin meeting guests on Monday, November 13. He will be found at the meet and greet area outside the Disney Junior stage show. While Handy Manny will continue to also meet and greet fans at the location, Annie, June, Leo and and Quincy from ‘Little Einsteins’ will no longer be there.

Fortunately for us, Josh Siegel (@Crushinat0r) was on hand to capture some of the newly installed magic (literally speaking) and share it with us.
