When inclimate weather threatened — and even canceled — some performances for the disney Parks Christmas Day parade last week, the performance of Grammy Award winner Celine Dion moved into the nearby Grand Floridian Resort and Spa where Dion filled the main lobby with her voice as well as admirers as shown in this photo from Disney photographer Matt Stroshane.
In 1897 — in September of 1897 no less — New York Sun editorial writer Francis Pharcellus Church wrote what become arguably the most famous editorial of all time as a response to a letter received by the paper. Under the headline ‘Is there a Santa Claus?,’ Church’s reply is more commonly known and cherished as Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

Due to weather concerns, Walt Disney World has decided to move the parade taping events scheduled for Saturday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6. Earlier today, the performance by the Jonas Brothers had to be delayed until Sunday and Celine Dion’s performance was moved to the Grand Floridian because of heavy rain conditions.
Guests who had tickets for this morning’s 7 am taping are eligible to attend the taping on Sunday. In addition, Walt Disney World is extending an option to those with tickets for tomorrow’s 11:30 am session to show up for the 7 am session if they so wish.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. and ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 4 — ‘Tis the season to be merry at Disney Parks, when the 26th annual “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade,” featuring award-winning musical talent and iconic stars performing in this year’s television special, airs December 25 on ABC-TV.
This year’s show promises to dazzle viewers with must-see performances by Celine Dion and Stevie Wonder. Pop sensations the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato spread joy to all as enchanting sounds from world-renowned musical artist Yanni and his Yanni Voices echo through the park. “American Idol” Season 8 winner, Kris Allen, will perform and “Wizards of Waverly Place” star Selena Gomez will make a special appearance in the annual telecast.
From the newest Disney Princess – Tiana – to Mickey Mouse and all his ‘toon pals,’ beloved Disney characters will embrace the holiday spirit aboard awe-inspiring floats that “deck the halls” as they glide through the Disney theme parks.
Two of television’s most popular celebrities will appear as the hosts of this year’s program. From the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, popular morning show personality Kelly Ripa returns as host, doubling her duties while partner Regis Philbin recovers from recent surgery. At Disneyland Park in California, worldwide television and radio host Ryan Seacrest takes center stage for the West Coast festivities. Nick Cannon, from “America’s Got Talent” makes his “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” television debut as co-host/man-on-the-street for the telecast.
The two-hour televised special will air nationally in High-definition December 25 on ABC-TV at 10 a.m. Eastern and 9 a.m. Central, Mountain and Pacific times.
While parents and children prepare to offer their day of volunteer service in 2010, two families will share their encouraging stories during the parade telecast of how they’ve made a difference by volunteering in their hometown communities, the inspiring motives that moved them to give back and the lessons their children have taken with them along the way.
Throughout the telecast, chart-topping talent and award-winning artists from around the world come together to share in the Christmas merriment at Disney Parks. (Please note: all talent and floats subject to change)
As per Disney Parks, Kirk Cameron will be replacing Vanessa Williams as narrator on December 12 & 13. It was also previously announced that Abigail Breslin extended her role, commencing on the 14th.

NEW YORK, Dec. 1 — What do the U.S. Postal Service, the Muppets and Santa Claus have in common? Neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night will keep them from delivering dreams this holiday season.
Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear joined Postmaster General John E. Potter today at the historic James A. Farley Post Office lobby in New York City to kick off the holiday mailing season and the Postal Service’s Letters to Santa program.
“The holiday season isn’t just the busiest time of the year for the Postal Service — it’s our best time of year,” said Potter. “For nearly 100 years, the Postal Service’s Letters to Santa program has made dreams come true for those in need. This is a time to celebrate how postal employees, charitable organizations and businesses have made a difference in the lives of children coast to coast.”
“We’re excited to be helping the Postal Service make the holiday special for kids across the country. It’s the perfect way to celebrate,” said Kermit the Frog. A postmark of Kermit the Frog will appear in the upper right-hand corner of holiday cards and letters mailed throughout the month of December.
“Helping Santa Claus is always a good idea, especially at this time of year,” added Fozzie Bear, who saluted the Postal Service for 234 years of delivering holiday cheer — and saluted Santa just to be on the safe side.
Vanessa Williams will now be performing on just the weekend of December 12 – 13. Abigail Breslin will be taking on the 14th in addition to her original schedule through the 17th.
Initially set to air on December 1, ABC has decided to push back the debut of its first holiday special from Walt Disney Animation Studios to December 8 at 8:30 PM ET (not Central as others have been reporting) because of a televised press conference by President Obama. Although the press conference is scheduled to run from 8:00 pm – 8:30 pm and would apparently not overlap with Prep & Landing‘s airing at 8:30, ABC has decided to move it anyway.
The back-to-back season premiere of Scrubs is expected to air at 9PM ET as scheduled.
It appears that the oft-well-kept secret of who will be performing for the taped annual Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade has been released and the news isn’t good for fans of the Jonas Brothers who were the frontrunners in the rumor mill.
Even the Disneyland portion, which tapes first (and already has, earlier this month), seemed to be a big surprise as reporters scrambled to try to get a hint as to who might show.
