Disney D23 has reported that Ilene Woods, best known to Disney fans as the original voice of Cinderella, has passed away at the age of 81. No additional details have been provided at this time.
Woods was offered the opportunity to audition for Cinderella after she had recorded demos of songs from the film for songwriters Mack David and Jerry Livingston who had become friends with her through a music radio show she once hosted. After hearing the recordings, Walt Disney extended an invitation for Woods to audition for the film — she won the role, but never met Walt until after the film had been completed.
Aimed at girls ages 5 – 8, the Princess & Me dolls (Tiana, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel) measure a whopping 18″ in height and seek to engage the child into exploring a whole new world of play beyond the cardboard box. Their unique facial features as the classic Disney Princesses are re-imagined as how they might appear if they were tweens. Each retails for $49.99 and includes a booklet filled with Disney Princess fun facts and activities and the opportunity to register so the child receives a special letter on their birthday from their favorite Princess.
Since they were first introduced for Valentine’s day, Hallmark has been steadily growing its offering of augmented reality greeting cards. By purchasing the cards in-store, the recipient can download special software specific to the card (Windows only) and use their webcam to produce an interactive augmented reality visual featuring their favorite characters.
Pictured on the top are new Father’s Day cards featuring Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo and Disney’s The Lion King and are available at most Hallmark stores. The cards on the bottom feature characters from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story and the Disney Princesses and are available exclusively at Walmart. To see pictures of all of the available cards, visit the Hallmark augmented reality card website.
Even though they’re being released in the UK (save for any importers who bring them over to this side of the pond), we just couldn’t resist mentioning these brand new Disney Princess pens from Pyramid International. Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White and Belle combine both form and function in these full body pens. And just that little something extra, the pens also feature a feathery dress as the perfect writing utensil accent for a budding princess.

Hallmark introduced a new line of greeting cards today using what’s come to be known as augmented reality. The greetings cards, while fully functional as traditional cards, offer a unique and innovative experience by allowing the recipient to use the card as a platform for a 3D animated sequence come to life right before their eyes.
Disney fans may recognize this as the same technology that Disneyland pushed heavily last summer with the Fantasmic! Dragon and the Become a Villain game.
