Beginning February 27 and through March 30, residents of the United States and Canada (minus Quebec) will be able to enter to win a National Parks vacation for six provided by the nationally-syndicated ‘LIVE! with Kelly’ hosted by Kelly Ripa and Air Wick. Participants will be able to enter the drawing once per day and can elect to earn a bonus entry for each day within the contest period as well.

Downtown Disney Hotels to Award Walt Disney Vacations to Teachers Nominated by Students
he Downtown Disney® Resort Area Hotels has partnered with Walt Disney World® to once again honor outstanding K-12 teachers with its 2012 A+ For Teachers at Downtown Disney essay contest.
The fourth annual contest, which kicks off today and runs through April 13, 2012, asks students in grades 1 through 12 to nominate their favorite teacher by writing a brief essay of no more than 300 words and submitting it via www.downtowndisneyhotels.com. The essay should explain how the teacher has made a difference in the student’s life and will be judged on its relevance to theme, creativity, originality, and the merit of the teacher’s accomplishments as outlined in the essay.
Seven winners will be chosen, and those students and their favorite teacher nominees each will win a vacation prize package that consists of:
Five-day / four-night accommodations (for up to four family members) at one of the Downtown Disney® Resort Area Hotels
Four free Walt Disney World® one-day, one-park passes
Four free tickets to the DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive theme park
Complimentary breakfast at the hotel each day (for up to four family members)

This year’s A+ For Teachers at Downtown Disney contest winners will be notified directly by May 1, 2012 and also announced on the hotels’ website and Facebook page.

Disney Cruise Line to Award Dream Vacation via Virtual Board Game
Beginning at 12 pm EST today, Disney Cruise Line is inviting online guests to enter in the The Magical Cruise Adventure Sweepstakes at DisneyCruiseAdventure.com. At stakes is one grand prize consisting of a seven night Mexican Riviera Cruise aboard the Disney Wonder for four, including roundtrip airfare (must be taken on April 15, 2012, April 22, 2012 or October 28, 2012). The winner will also receive a selection of upgrades achieved during the virtual gameplay.
To place an entry into the sweepstakes, eligible entrants may play once per calendar day by spinning the board game’s wheel and moving x amount of spaces along the gameboard. There are four different game space types to land on, each rewarding or penalizing the entrant: the Disney Cruise Line Space adds 25 points to the voyage ; Treasure Space adds an upgrade to the cruise along with 100 points; Disney Hero allows you to choose between the nearest upgrade spaces; and Disney Villain eliminates a nearby upgrade space. Gameplay ends when you reach Castaway Cay at the end of the gameboard. If you’ve managed to rack up 500 points or more, you’ll gain a bonus entry into the sweepstakes. If the winning entrant manages to collect all the upgrades, a special bonus upgraded will be added to the prize.
Initially players will be limited in how many potential upgrades they can receive, but by inviting friends to play (the rules specifically state referrals must be known on an in-person basis), entrants will increase their upgrade capacity by five for each referral who plays. However, if an entrant plays eleven times during the contest period, they will be awarded everything regardless.

Sixth Grade Class in Rural Iowa Selected as Winners in Inaugural Disney’s Planet Challenge
Disney today announced Mrs. Julie Schnedler’s sixth grade Mediapolis Community School class as the national grand prize winner of the inaugural Disney’s Planet Challenge, a project-based learning environmental competition for 4th – 6th grade classrooms.

Thousands of classrooms in all 50 states enrolled in Disney’s Planet Challenge, which is just in its first year as a national program. Since fall 2009, classes across the nation have been hard at work on environmental projects of their choosing. They spent months collecting data, conducting field research, coming up with solutions for problems, promoting community involvement and documenting their efforts along the way.
“It was such a tough decision for our judging committee to make. So many of the projects submitted exhibited environmental solutions grounded in science and teamwork,” said Dr. Beth Stevens, senior vice president, Environmental Affairs for The Walt Disney Company. “Mrs. Schnedler’s class submission for ‘Operation: Save the Quail’ went above and beyond in demonstrating a dedication to understanding the environmental impacts of actions and initiating real-life change that they can be proud of.”
Winners were chosen by a judging committee made up of scientists, environmental experts and educators including representatives from the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and WestEd K-12 Alliance. State and regional winners will be announced this week on the program web site www.disney.com/planetchallenge.
Mrs. Schnedler’s class, located in a small rural community in Iowa, focused on saving the Northern Bobwhite Quail population for their project. The waning quail population – due to harsh weather and decreased prairie land – is a significant environmental issue facing Des Moines County. To restore the quails’ natural habitat, students collected information through computer research and field work. With the help of community members, the class restored acres of existing conservation space in Luckenbill Woods by conducting a controlled burn to prepare the land and replanting native vegetation that will benefit local quails, promote diversity of wildlife and help to control soil erosion. Furthering their efforts, the students wrote to the local Pheasants Forever chapter, which fulfilled a request to help fund the project. Their dedication will make it possible for future 6th grade classes to continue the work and nurture the new land.
The winning class will be honored in a recognition ceremony and parade at Disneyland® on May 7th, 2010, and featured on Disney Channel as youth environmental leaders. Regional and state winners will receive classroom grants, Disney prize packages, NSTA memberships and more.
Disney’s Planet Challenge promotes project-based learning and provides tailored lesson plans customized to reflect the curriculum standards of each state and grade level (grades 4-6). In recognition of tightening classroom budgets and the increasing importance of environmental science education, Disney’s Planet Challenge also offered a grant matching initiative with DonorsChoose.org, an online charity that connects individual “citizen philanthropists” with classrooms in need.
Disney’s Planet Challenge for the classroom, together with Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green for everyday life, are cornerstones of Disney’s focus to provide the youth of today with the knowledge and resources to positively impact the environment for future generations.
