Casting is underway for Disney’s Descendants, a contemporary live-action adventure-comedy that taps into Disney’s heritage characters — notably its most evil villains — to introduce their progeny, a modern day generation of teenagers who ultimately question the evil that’s always been in their hearts.
Kenny Ortega, the Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer of Disney’s record-setting High School Musical TV movies and feature film, returns to Disney Channel to direct Descendants. The casting directors are Natalie Hart and Jason La Padura, C.S.A..
Set high atop snow-capped mountains in the adrenaline-fueled world of competitive snowboarding, the Disney Channel Original Movie Cloud 9 tells the inspiring story of two snowboarders who must overcome self-doubt to learn that achieving their dreams is possible. Executive-produced by Ashley Tisdale, and starring Luke Benward and Dove Cameron, Cloud 9 premieres Friday, January 17 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel.
The evening of the movie’s premiere — part of Disney Channel’s annual ‘JaNEWary’ programming event — will include a new episode of the hit series, ‘Liv and Maddie,’ the premiere of Disney Channel’s comedy series, ‘I Didn’t Do It’ and a first-look at the upcoming game show, ‘Disney’s Win, Lose or Draw.’
Sofia and her family take to the high seas for a royal vacation in the first-ever ‘Sofia the First’ primetime special, ‘Sofia the First: The Floating Palace,’ premiering Sunday, November 24 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel and Thursday, November 28 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on the Disney Junior channel. The undersea adventure, in which Sofia is magically transformed into a mermaid, features a special appearance by Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid, voiced by Disney Legend Jodi Benson who reprises her iconic role from the animated film. The special also introduces a new character named Oona, a young mermaid voiced by Kiernan Shipka.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Never Land Rescue’ will be coming to DVD on November 19, following its television debut on Disney Channel at 6 pm ET/PT on September 29. The special marks the first appearance of Tinker Bell on the popular Disney Junior series. Multi-talented actress, singer and dancer Zendaya (“Shake It Up,” “Dancing With The Stars”) stars in “Zapped,” a comedy adventure movie slated to premiere on Disney Channels around the world, as well as on Canada’s Family Channel in 2014. The storyline follows 16 year-old Zoey Stevens, a skilled dancer and straight-A student who is having a hard time adjusting to a new high school, a new and klutzy dance squad, a new step-dad, three new rowdy step-brothers and an unruly dog. But things change when a dog training app on her smart phone begins to somehow control all the boys around her.
Broken toys had nothing to fear this past weekend at Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, California as Doc McStuffins made her debut to meet and greet with fans — and cuddles were definitely prescribed. We were fortunate to catch up with Doc between appointments where she proudly displayed one of the in-booth giveaways from Disney Junior: a tote with her own likeness on it.
No word at this time if and when she’ll be making appearances in Disney Parks but given her immense popularity and having been recently added to Disney Junior Live On Stage (alongside Princess Sofia the First who started appearing not too long ago at the Disneyland Resort and just yesterday began appearing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort), it’s a good bet she just may.
Production has begun on the animated series “Miles From Tomorrowland,” a space adventure for preschoolers. Slated to debut in 2015 on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world, the series follows the outer space voyages of young adventurer Miles and his family. The announcement was made today by Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.
Kanter said, “We hope this series will influence a child’s interest in science and technology by introducing them at an early age to the exciting world of space exploration, how things work and what lies beyond the here and now.”
Disney Channel taps into a three-dimensional “geek chic” comedy adventure with “How to Build a Better Boy,” a present day take on a futuristic story starring Disney Channel star China Anne McClain (“A.N.T. Farm”) and Disney XD star Kelli Berglund (“Lab Rats”). Set in Washington, DC, the storyline follows high school sophomores Mae Hartley (Berglund) and Gabby Harrison (McClain), two tech-savvy best friends who devise a plan to create the perfect boyfriend with just a few strokes of the keyboard and a wireless connection. What Gabby and Mae don’t realize is that the computer they use is set up to generate a robotic super soldier, which they have inadvertently activated in the form of Albert, a macho yet sensitive super cute boy.
