Production has begun in Atlanta, Georgia on the Disney Channel Original Movie “Let It Shine,” a modern day teenage Cyrano de Bergerac set in the world of gospel music and hip-hop. The movie is scheduled to premiere in summer 2012 on Disney Channel; its soundtrack will include 12 original songs by acclaimed music producers/songwriters/performers such as Rock Mafia (Selena Gomez and The Scene “Love You Like a Love Song”), Grammy-winner Toby Gad (Beyoncé “If I Were A Boy” and Fergie “Big Girls Don’t Cry”) and David Banner (“Dance the Night Away” featuring Denim from “Footloose” and “Get Like Me” featuring Chris Brown and Yung Joc).
Disney Channel today confirmed a report made by Stitch Kingdom weeks ago stating that they were actively developing and casting a series titled ‘Zombies and Cheerleaders.’ We initially reported on the project back in June, when we noticed domain name registrations alluding to the project, but it wasn’t until September that we were able to confirm the project and provide extensive details on the series.
According to Disney Channel, the music-driven pilot will begin production in December (with as an of yet unannounced cast), to be considered for a series in 2012.
“Pixie Hollow Games,” a new animated special featuring the voices of Disney Channel stars Brenda Song (“The Suite Life on Deck”), Jason Dolley (“Good Luck Charlie”), Tiffany Thornton (“So Random!”) and Zendaya (“Shake It Up”) will premiere Saturday, November 19 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel. Part of the hugely successful Disney Fairies franchise, the adventure-filled story follows spirited newcomer Chloe as she, along with Tinker Bell and the fairies, and sparrow men of Pixie Hollow, gather for the legendary Pixie Hollow Games, a tournament-style sporting event where Chloe is determined to inspire her trailing team to believe in themselves and bring home the championship.
Sarah Hyland (“Modern Family”) and Matt Prokop (High School Musical 3: Senior Year) star in the comedy “Geek Charming,” a Disney Channel Original Movie based on the popular young adult novel of the same name, premiering Friday, November 11 at 8:00 pm ET/PT. The story follows a snobby high school girl who has her perspective challenged when she becomes the subject of a self-proclaimed film geek’s documentary.
In just a few days, the all new Halloween episode of ‘Phineas and Ferb’ will premiere on Disney Channel and we have two new clips to share!
Our first clip is from ‘That’s the Spirit!,’ where it’s Halloween night and the kids encounter a strange boy and his father who are convinced their house is haunted. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s disdain for grass causes him to invent a ‘mind-transfer-inator’ enabling him to merge minds with a cow and destroy all the grass in the Tri-State Area. Unfortunately, his plan backfires and he transforms into a scary ‘were-cow’ that wreaks havoc any time there is a full moon. It’s now up to Agent P to stop him and save Danville. Guest starring are Michael Douglas and real-life son Dylan Douglas, as father and son residents of the haunted house.
Nearly 30,000 dance videos were submitted and now six talented finalists age 10-16 have been selected to showcase their dance moves for millions of viewers and celebrity judges, Selena Gomez (“Wizards of Waverly Place”), recording artist Sean Kingston and “Shake It Up” choreographer Rosero McCoy, in Disney Channel’s first-ever talent competition exclusively for kids and tweens, “Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off – ‘Shake It Up’ Edition,” premiering Friday, October 14 at 8:30 pm ET/PT. The grand prize is a “Spotlight Dance” on an upcoming episode of “Shake It Up,” which through its first 21 original episodes, is pacing to be cable TV’s #1 series of all time among Tweens 9-14. The dance off competition telecast will be hosted by Debby Ryan (Disney Channel’s “Jessie”), Roshon Fegan and R. Brandon Johnson (both of “Shake It Up”), with special guest appearances by Bella Thorne and Zendaya (both of “Shake It Up”).
Disney Channel has provided us with new stills from their upcoming episode of ‘So Random’ with special guest star, the original tantrum girl herself, Miss Piggy.
In the episode, which premieres this Sunday, October 2, at 7:30 pm ET/PT, the cast members of ‘So Random’ each try to convince Miss Piggy to appear in skits with their popular characters, such as MC Grammar and Taylor, but Piggy isn’t having any of it.
Eventually Piggy appears in a skit called ‘The Real Princesses of New Jersey’ in which she plays Rapunzel (or, ‘Punzel rather) and dishes the dirt with regal gal pals Cindy and Beauty.
A few months ago, we reported on some interesting domain name registrations by Disney focusing on the unlikely combination of zombies and cheerleaders — relatively unusual for a family entertainment conglomerate, anyway. Within the past couple of weeks, we began receiving visits through search engines from various people searching for the term, sometimes combining it with Disney and even Disney Channel.
Today we have learned just what the ‘Zombies and Cheerleaders’ project is, thanks to a casting notice placed by Stiner/Block Casting, who routinely cast for Disney Channel projects. According to the casting call, we now know the project to be a pilot for a new Disney Channel comedy.
Halloween is rapidly approaching and it’s high time Phineas and Ferb meet their match and this time, the supernatural foes are out for blood — true blood. It’s all treats and no trick as the Disney Channel favorite stuffs its bag full of celebrity guest stars on the extra spooky episode which debuts Friday, October 7 at 7:00 pm ET on Disney Channel.
