Rita Ferro Named Executive VP of Disney Media Sales and Marketing

Rita Ferro, an executive with a strong track record in advertising sales and promotions, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Disney Media Sales and Marketing, effective June 28. Ms. Ferro will relocate to New York from Miami, where she’s been an integral part of Disney and ESPN’s Latin America business since 1997. She succeeds Tricia Wilber who was recently named Chief Marketing Officer, The Walt Disney Company, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

In her new role, Ferro will lead the integrated sales team that represents and maximizes advertising sales, marketing and promotions across The Walt Disney Company’s media platforms serving kids, moms and families, including its kid-driven, family inclusive TV channels, its wide-range of online offerings, its mom-focused publishing business, and its kid- and mom-focused radio platform. The portfolio, consists of Disney Channel, Disney XD, Playhouse Disney (soon to re-brand to Disney Junior), plus over 20 Disney Online properties serving kids, families and/or women including Disney.com, DisneyFamily.com, DisneyChannel.com, RadioDisney.com, Kaboose.com and FamilyFun.com, among others.

Ferro will report to three business unit leaders – Carolina Lightcap, president, Disney Channels Worldwide; Paul Yanover, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Online, and Russell Hampton, president, Disney Publishing Worldwide.

Ms. Lightcap said, “Rita has a great reputation in the advertising community and a strong background in generating strategic opportunities for diverse clients in a dynamic multichannel, multi-brand business.” She continued, “I am excited to be working closely with her again, and know our integrated ad sales team stands to benefit enormously from her keen insights, strong relationships and leadership skills.”

New Season of Playhouse Disney’s ‘Tasty Time with ZeFronk’ Starts July 19; ‘Imagination Movers’ Get Healthy

Supporting Disney’s ongoing commitment to helping kids and parents achieve healthier lifestyles, Disney Channel will premiere the second season of Playhouse Disney’s popular animated short-form series for parents and preschoolers, “Tasty Time with ZeFronk,” on MONDAY, JULY 19 (9:25 a.m., ET/PT), with new episodes every day throughout the week. Production Has Begun on the Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure’

Ashley Tisdale in Disney Channel's 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure' © DisneyProduction has begun on “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure,” a Disney Channel Original Movie directed by Emmy Award-winning director Michael Lembeck (“Tooth Fairy,” “Santa Clause 2″ and “Santa Clause 3.”). Ashley Tisdale stars as the scene-stealing drama queen Sharpay Evans in the role she made so popular in the “High School Musical” TV movies and feature film. “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” is scheduled to premiere in 2011 on Disney Channel.

In addition to Tisdale, the movie stars Austin Butler (“Life Unexpected” and “Ruby and the Rockits”) as the confident film student Peyton Leverett and Bradley Steven Perry (“Good Luck Charlie”) as a precocious young dog owner and Sharpay’s nemesis, Roger Elliston the 3rd.

Got leche? Handy Manny to Become Next Spokesperson for Milk

Beginning June 8, Playhouse Disney’s Handy Manny will become the next celebrity to sport a milk mustache as part of the Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP)’s ‘Got Milk?’ ad campaign. Print ads will first run in English in magazines such as Disney FamilyFun and People. Later this year, in conjunction with ‘Hispanic Heritage Month,’ Handy Manny will appear in milk ads in Spanish.

Disney Channel’s ‘Camp Rock 2′ Lets Out on Home Video on September 7

Camp Rock 2: Extended Edition © WDSHEQuite a few of our readers scoffed when we announced that Disney Channel’s Original Movie Camp Rock 2: Final Jam would be making its television debut on September 3. Why are Hollywood kids going to camp when the rest of us commoners are already back in school?

An amazing question we have no answer for, yet even more puzzling to us is that if you happen to miss the Disney Channel premiere, you can now simply just take a deep breath and just go out and buy it on DVD because according to Amazon.com, the DVD is set to be released on September 7, just a few days later. Pre-orders are now being accepted for both the Blu-ray/DVD Combo and the DVD editions.

Borders Named Exclusive Merchandise Retailer for Disney Channel’s ’16 Wishes’

Borders is to serve as the exclusive retailer for all 16 Wishes merchandise, available in store starting June 25. A variety of products will be available in all Borders and Waldenbooks retail locations and online at Borders.com. Borders will dedicate features space to merchandise the 13-item collection. Furthermore, some 200 stores will feature video monitors running the movie trailer and music video through the end of July.

Disney Channel Orders Fourth Season of ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Plus Movie Sequel

Disney Channel has ordered a fourth season of its Emmy Award-winning sitcom “Wizards of Waverly Place,” and is in development on the sequel to “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie,” cable TV’s second-highest rated scripted telecast of all time in Total Viewers (13.5 million), Kids 6-11 and Tweens. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. Production on the fourth season is scheduled to begin in August with show runners Vince Cheung and Ben Montanio (“Married…with Children,” “Greetings from Tucson”) executive-producing. Todd J. Greenwald (“Hannah Montana,” “Saved By the Bell: The New Class”) is the series creator and also an executive producer.

Newcomer Anthony Ingruber Joins Cast of Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Avalon High’

Anthony Gruber, courtesy of AnthonyGruber.comFormer WETA Workshop assistant Anthony Ingruber has recently joined the cast of the Disney Channel Original Movie, Avalon High, which is now shooting on location in New Zealand.

A graduate of Wellington Performing Arts Centre, this will be Ingruber’s first on-camera role. In the film, Ingruber will portray the role of Sean, a football player whose identity plays in to the modern day Camelot tale.

On joining the film based on the book by noted author Meg Cabot, Ingruber states ‘it is clear from the caliber of cast and crew they have assembled, that Disney is aiming to make something very special, and I’m honored to be a part of it.’
