Photos: Disney Cruise Line Takes Helm of Disney Fantasy; First Look at The Tube, Ship Interiors
Disney Cruise Line took possession of its newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, earlier today from the Meyer Werft shipyard in a traditional maritime ceremony aboard the ship. The Meyer Werft flag was lowered, while the Disney Cruise Line flag was raised, transferring ownership from the shipbuilder to Disney.
This final milestone closes the book on the ship’s construction journey and signals her readiness to welcome guests on her maiden voyage, set for March 31, 2012, from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Disney Fantasy is the second of two newly designed Disney ships that take the family cruise experience to new heights and features many of the innovations found on her sister ship, Disney Dream.

UPDATED: Disney Fantasy Ship Float Out Video; Destined for New York City (Christening?)
Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, will see another milestone tomorrow as she leaves the Meyer Werft enclosed dock for the first time, proving her seaworthiness. At approximately 5 am EST on Sunday, January 8, she will slowly be floated out of the building, into the harbor for a few tests.
Final touches on the ship’s construction, such as the installation of the mast, will be performed while she is berthed at the yard’s pier. Two weeks later, she is expected to be conveyed to the North Sea via the River Ems. She will then officially be delivered to Disney Cruise Line on February 9 in Bremerhaven.

Video: ‘The Muppets’ Disney Fantasy ‘The Case of the Stolen Show’ Interactive Game
Disney Cruise Line today debuted this video which goes behind-the-scenes at the making of the Midship Detective Agency interactive game on the Disney Fantasy. In the game, which takes advantage of the Enchanted Art displays — much like its counterpart already in place aboard sister ship Disney Dream — Pepe the King Prawn offers to take on detective duties to help Kermit and the rest of the Muppets find the missing props for their big performance. Kermit, worried about Pepe’s lack of detective skills, turns to the guests for help.
CONFIRMED: ‘Wishes’ Musical to Debut on Disney Fantasy
Reporting from the new Disney Cruise Line facility in Toronto, Deb Wills of AllEarsNet has confirmed via Twitter something we reported several months ago, that a new musical titled ‘Wishes’ will debut on-board the Disney Fantasy when she sets sail early next year.
Although details have surely changed since we first reported the new show (which we first knew to be titled ‘Reflections’), here are some of the role descriptions we first shared:
Specific roles that appear to be tied to the new show include:
The Muppets Climb Aboard the Disney Fantasy
The Muppets make their debut on Disney Cruise Line in a new adventure game aboard the Disney Fantasy, the new Disney ship setting sail in March 2012.
Throughout the Disney Fantasy, guests will discover creative and whimsical technical innovations – whether it’s mealtime, playtime or bedtime. “Paintings” spring to life. Guests’ own drawings dance with Disney characters. Interior staterooms have a porthole view of the sea outside. Animated characters chat with guests. The floor beneath children comes alive to movements. Among the highlights:
Photo/Video: Disney Fantasy Receives Final Building Block
The final building block for the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Fantasy, was placed today at the Meyer Werft shipyard signaling completion of a major milestone in the ship’s overall construction. The final block placed was a 265-ton portion of the ship’s bow, complete with the signature Disney Cruise Line golden filigree.
The Disney Fantasy will bring to life many of the innovative features guests love on the recently launched Disney Dream including AquaDuck — the world’s first shipboard water coaster. But new design elements and guest experiences will give the Fantasy an identity all its own. Some of the new highlights found on the Disney Fantasy include:
‘Reflections/Wishes’ to Join ‘Aladdin,’ ‘Believe’ Aboard Disney Fantasy
With casting calls for the Disney Fantasy (maiden voyage March 31, 2012) beginning soon, we have learned that the new production being created exclusively for the Disney Fantasy will be titled ‘Reflections.’ This news comes via the resume page of choreographer Darren Lee on his agents’ website. Interestingly enough, Lee’s resume also lists ‘Toy Story’ at the Hyperion Theatre at Disney California Adventure, the show once announced to replace ‘Aladdin,’ before Disney Parks abruptly announcing an indefinite extension of ‘Aladdin,’ a move we used to feed our inane assumption that the staged musical version of ‘Newsies’ would be moving into the park.
