Gary Cain, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise LineDisney Cruise Line presented a $250,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida in honor of the newest and fourth ship in its fleet, the Disney Fantasy. The donation is earmarked for a new Boys & Girls Club location in Cocoa near Port Canaveral, the homeport for the Disney Fantasy. Last year, Disney hosted a benefit cruise on the sister ship of the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Dream, raising $750,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs. Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line and Captain Tom Forberg were joined by Gary Cain, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, and several Club families who will have the opportunity to sail on the Disney Fantasy later this month.

“Disney Cruise Line has been a long-time supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida,” said Holz. “As our fleet has expanded and our business has grown, it has been our pleasure to help the Clubs grow as well, so they can continue to inspire and empower young people. We are excited that this donation will assist in the development of a new facility close to our homeport, which will allow our crew members to continue supporting the Clubs through Disney VoluntEAR efforts.”

The contribution will help fund programs at Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida that teach children character and leadership, develop life and health skills and expand their creativity and cultural awareness through the arts. Both Disney and Boys & Girls Clubs share the same values in championing the happiness and well-being of children, as well as motivating them to make a lasting, positive change in the world. The relationship between Boys & Girls Clubs and The Walt Disney Company started more than 50 years ago when Walt Disney was made an honorary member of the organization’s national board of directors.

“We are proud to serve children at Clubs in Brevard County where there is a need for comprehensive, dedicated youth development services and where all young people can come to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens,” said Cain. “We are very grateful for this generous contribution from Disney Cruise Line, which will have an immediate impact on our community and encourage the next generation of local leaders. The opportunity to sail on the Disney Fantasy will create magical memories for these children and their families.”

In keeping with maritime tradition, Disney Cruise Line also hosted a plaque and key exchange with members of the port and community leaders commemorating the inaugural call of the Disney Fantasy on Port Canaveral.

CONFIRMED: Mariah Carey is Disney Fantasy Godmother

Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy Arrives in New York City on February 28, 2012 © Stitch Kingdom. All Rights Reserved.

As Disney Cruise Line’s newest member of the fleet, the Disney Fantasy, is moored at Pier 88 in New York City awaiting her christening tomorrow evening, we have received reports that Disney Cruise Line crew members working at the terminal have been advising details on who will be attending tomorrow’s festivities along with the most highly anticipated reveal of all: the ship’s Godmother.

We can now confirm rumors that Mariah Carey will serve as Godmother of the Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy. A native of the state of New York, Carey shot to fame in the early 90s with her impressive vocal range and pop hits which included, amongst many other hits, ‘Fantasy,’ which debuted on the #1 spot on the Billboard 100. The album itself also debuted as number one in sales, making her the first female solo artist to accomplish such a feat.

Still recording, Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon have recently become proud parents of twins Moriccan and Monroe (aka Roc and ‘Roe) and the new family will no doubt be soon enjoying the ship’s many amenities.

When Carey becomes the latest Godmother in the Disney Cruise family, she will be joining other luminaries such as Patty Disney (Disney Magic), Tinker Bell (Disney Wonder) and Jennifer Hudson (Disney Dream).

In addition to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, other New York celebrities are expected to attend the private ceremony including comedian-actor Jerry Seinfeld. According to our information, the ceremony is scheduled to take place between 6 pm and 11 pm.

This information comes to us via @JasonDonohue. Disney Cruise Line had not immediately responded to a request for confirmation but Mariah Carey is scheduled to perform at Gotham Hall in New York City along with P. Diddy as part of the ‘Plot Your Escape’ event which is scheduled to begin at 9 pm ET, so it’s definitely feasible.

UPDATE #1: 2/29/12 – Rebecca Peddie of Disney Cruise Line has responded to our request for comment, stating ‘We are looking forward to revealing our Godmother tomorrow [3/1] night. We have not announced any entertainment plans.’

UPDATE #2: 3/1/12 – At the christening ceremony, Disney Cruise Line has confirmed Mariah Carey will serve as Godmother of the Disney Fantasy

Sneak Peek: ‘AquaLab’ Aboard Disney Fantasy

AquaLab aboard Disney FantasyAlthough the Disney Fantasy has already arrived in New York City for her christening on March 1, the Transatlantic voyage vlog continues with today’s entry: a look at just some of the water-based recreation for families.

Of note amongst the items (re-)introduced by Cruise Director Brent Davies, is what may a first look at the Disney Fantasy-exclusive water play area known as the AquaLab. Located on deck 12 aft aboard the Disney Fantasy, the AquaLab is the result of Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie as they look to build the AquaDuck water coaster with ‘spare’ parts found around the ship. The result is a 2,000 square foot area laden with 24 pop jets and other aquatic features that keep water cycling through at a magnificent 900 gallons per minute.

The interactive features include wheels and levers located at three aqua stations where kids can pretend to control the speed and temperature of the AquaDuck as well as trying to control the water supply by covering pipes with their hands or even prevent Uncle Donald’s row boat (seen in the video) from filling with water.

The Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy will have her maiden voyage on March 31, 2012

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Disney Fantasy Arrives in New York City

Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy Arrives in New York City on February 28, 2012 © Stitch Kingdom. All Rights Reserved.

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, arrived in New York City with great fanfare this morning after having made her Transatlantic voyage. With a US Coast Guard escort and being trailed by a helicopter documenting her arrival, she pulled into New York Harbor, next to the Statue of Liberty, just in time to make her national television debut on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America.’

After blowing all of her musical horns (she has all the same horns the Disney Dream has plus a couple of bars of ‘New York, New York’ and a water salute from an FDNY fireboat, she headed up the Hudson River to her temporary home at Pier 88 in Manhattan. The Disney Fantasy is scheduled to remain in New York City through March 1, when she’ll receive her christening that evening.

Although the Disney Fantasy will be heading to her home port in Port Canaveral in Florida, sister ship the Disney Magic will begin a limited number of sailings out of New York City this summer.

Below is our photo gallery of the Disney Fantasy arriving in New York City this morning, taken while aboard the Staten Island Ferry as well as from Battery Park, where many fans had gathered to get their first in-person look at the luxury cruiseliner.

‘Muppet Midship Detective Agency’ on Disney Fantasy First Look (Video)

As the Disney Fantasy makes its Transatlantic voyage to Pier 88 in Manhattan, where it will be christened on March 1, Disney Cruise Line has been releasing a series of video blogs with Cruise Directors Brent Davies and Ray Smale. Until now, the reality has been that the videos have all been apparently produced before the ship set sail (and who can blame them with such poor internet connectivity in the middle of the Atlantic?) and haven’t really contained any new information. That all changed, however, with yesterday’s entry which not only looks at some of the new Enchanted Art exclusive to the Disney Fantasy, but a decent first look at the Muppet Midship Detective Agency, also exclusive to the ship.

A new variation on the Disney Dream’s Midship Detective Agency, the Muppet version introduces ‘The Case of the Stolen Show’ in which guests aboard the Disney Fantasy use the ship’s Enchanted Art and special game cards and maps to help Kermit and the gang locate missing props so the show can go on.

The Disney Fantasy will have its inaugural voyage on March 31, 2012.

Photos: Disney Cruise Line Takes Helm of Disney Fantasy; First Look at The Tube, Ship Interiors

Bernard Meyer hands over Disney Fantasy Documents to Karl Holz

Disney Cruise Line took possession of its newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, earlier today from the Meyer Werft shipyard in a traditional maritime ceremony aboard the ship. The Meyer Werft flag was lowered, while the Disney Cruise Line flag was raised, transferring ownership from the shipbuilder to Disney.

This final milestone closes the book on the ship’s construction journey and signals her readiness to welcome guests on her maiden voyage, set for March 31, 2012, from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Disney Fantasy is the second of two newly designed Disney ships that take the family cruise experience to new heights and features many of the innovations found on her sister ship, Disney Dream.

“Today we celebrate the culmination of a wonderful partnership, as we take possession of the Disney Fantasy and prepare for the journey home to Florida. This ship is the result of the superb craftsmanship from the master shipbuilders at Meyer Werft and the innovation, imagination and ingenuity of the Disney team, who have partnered together so beautifully to bring this ship to life,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line.  “We are eagerly anticipating our guests, who will experience storytelling in enchanting new ways onboard the Disney Fantasy while making magical memories that will last a lifetime.”

Known for establishing the family cruise market when the business launched in 1998, Disney Cruise Line continues to build upon this success with a focus on the legacy and heritage of The Walt Disney Company’s most known assets – master storytelling, world-class entertainment and legendary guest service.

“The Disney Fantasy, along with her sister ship, the Disney Dream, are the largest ships that Meyer Werft has ever built,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft.  “Over the last five years we have developed an outstanding partnership working with Disney, and together, we have seen two magnificent ships become reality. The collaboration among Disney Cruise Line, Meyer Werft and its suppliers has been exemplary.”

Meyer Werft and Disney first signed a contract to build two new ships in April of 2007. Shortly thereafter, planning for the design of the ships began and construction started on the Disney Dream, the first of the two new ships, with the first steel cutting on March 2, 2009.  Since the recent completion of the ship’s float out and conveyance on the River Ems, the test-and-adjust period has been in full swing. The ship will remain in Bremerhaven for another week while additional crew members board, and supplies and provisions are loaded. The Disney Fantasy is scheduled to depart on Feb. 16 for its transatlantic voyage to the U.S., with an expected arrival to its homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida on March 6. Prior to that, however, the ship will be moored at Pier 88 in New York City where it will receive its christening ceremony on March 1.

Captain Tom Forberg will officially take the helm of the Disney Fantasy for Disney Cruise Line.  As part of the Disney Cruise Line ship construction team, Captain Forberg has been with the company for more than 15 years and was responsible for launching Disney’s first three ships, the Disney Dream, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

First Look: Disney Fantasy Maiden Voyage Limited Edition Merchandise

Disney Fantasy Maiden Voyage RSP MerchandiseEarlier today, the official Disney Parks blog offered a first look at some of the new merchandise that will be available aboard the Disney Cruise Line Disney Fantasy for her Maiden Voyage and Inaugural Voyage Season. We are now pleased to bring you a first look at the limited edition items that will be available only to those sailing on the maiden voyage.

Because each of the items are limited edition, there are less of them than there are passengers, so the items are available via a Random Selection Process (RSP) in which guests can list their preferred items on a list and the items are then randomly awarded to those who want them. If there are still items left over, it then gets awarded to those who asked for it on a second and (subsequently) a third list. On the Disney Dream, much of the merchandise went unrequested so it was even available for sale upon request aboard the ship, and some merchandise was even available on following sailings.

Pictured above (not to scale) are the Robert Olszewski light-up Disney Fantasy miniature (measures 13″ in length). It’s limited to 100 pieces and retails for $295 and will be hand-signed by Olszewski. Also pictured are the vinylmation figures: a 9″ Disney Fantasy figure with a limited edition size of 750 pieces and a retail cost of $49.95 and the set of two 3″ and one 1 1/2″ vinylmation set paying tribute to the Minnie statue in the ship’s atrium, limited to a whopping 2500 pieces and retails for $39.95 (in contrast, the set for Admiral Donald on the Disney Dream was limited to 1,000 pieces and sold for $25).

There appear to be less of the more exotic items for the Disney Fantasy than the Dream (no crystal sculpture for example), but there are definitely standouts. For example, the ear hat is actually a set of two, one themed to Mickey and one to Minnie, with an edition size of 500 and a pricetag of $74.95. Also of note is the most expensive item on the list, a ‘limited release’ 14K gold and diamond (.24 carat total weight) with an 18″ chain, yours for just $4100.

To see the complete list of the items available to maiden voyage sailors, download the PDF. Also available is a PDF of the Disney Fantasy inaugural art being offered at the Vista Gallery.

UPDATED: Disney Fantasy Ship Float Out Video; Destined for New York City (Christening?)

Disney Dream Inside Meyer Werft ShipyardDisney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, will see another milestone tomorrow as she leaves the Meyer Werft enclosed dock for the first time, proving her seaworthiness. At approximately 5 am EST on Sunday, January 8, she will slowly be floated out of the building, into the harbor for a few tests.

Final touches on the ship’s construction, such as the installation of the mast, will be performed while she is berthed at the yard’s pier. Two weeks later, she is expected to be conveyed to the North Sea via the River Ems. She will then officially be delivered to Disney Cruise Line on February 9 in Bremerhaven.

From there, it’s a Transatlantic voyage in which her first stop is Pier 88 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City (12th Ave. & 55th St.), where she is scheduled to be berthed from February 28 through March 2, causing some to speculate that this is where the christening for the ship will take place. Although possible, it will put the christening slightly ahead of schedule relative to her first sail date as her slightly older sister, the Disney Dream, was. Christening or not, it’s likely that the decision to bring her to New York City first is a calculated move by both the city and the cruise line to bring worldwide attention to  her and the fact that older sis Disney Magic will be sailing out of New York a few months later. It will make for much better television as well as ABC’s ‘Good Morning America,’ ‘Live! with Kelly,’ ‘The View,’ ‘The Chew,’ and ‘The Revolution’  all originate from the city, as do other Disney-friendly potential venues including ‘The Rachel Ray Show.’

What we have been able to confirm is that the ship will be open for private tours for industry professionals (i.e., travel agents) and, we assume, media outlets. In fact, one could easy speculate that while Disney Parks celebrates its ‘One More Disney Day’ campaign at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, those who can’t make the trip can expect to see the Disney Fantasy celebrating on ‘Good Morning America,’ although this is pure speculation.

The float out ceremony of the Disney Fantasy is expected to be streamed live on the Meyer Werft website. Photo courtesy Meyer Werft.

UPDATE: The Meyer Werft webcam can be found here. The Disney Fantasy is expected to leave the dock building at approximately 6 am ET (noon local time).

UPDATE #2: Better live stream at http://www.ndr.de/regional/niedersachsen/oldenburg/disneyfantasy105.html

UPDATE #3: With the ceremony complete, we have produced a recap video from the hour long+ webcast which is below. The Meyer Werft webcam remains active and is focused on the ship so you can continue to see her being worked on outside here.
