Disney Interactive today announced that Stitch and Tinker Bell will join Merida and Maleficent as new Disney themed playable characters in the ‘Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition’ Toy Box to be released later this year. To celebrate the occasion, Disney Interactive has supplied us with high res images of the new figures as well as Toy Box screen shots featuring them at play.
At the Disney Consumer Products holiday preview event recently held in New York City, I was able to get some limited play time in on the ‘Disney Infinity 2.0′ Marvel Super Heroes edition ‘Spider-Man’ play set and toy box.
Overall the game play seems to be on par with — if not better than — the first generation. One particularly cool upgrade, however, is a ‘compass’ or ‘radar’ on the heads-up display which should be familiar to any casual gamer, which points out points of interest as well additional quest locations. Additionally, due to the size of the play set area, on-screen indicators pop up to indicate the distance to points of interest as you travel towards them.
Best Buy has put up its pre-orders for ‘Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes‘ with a release date of September 19, 2014. As part of the pre-order offer, Best Buy is offering a free additional figure with purchase. However, among the figures to choose from are a single power disc blind pack and the ‘Spider-Man’ play set which itself retails for $34.99.
True to Best Buy’s word, if you select one of the starter packs (console-specific) and then choose the ‘Spider-Man’ play set as your freebie, it does zero out the price in the shopping cart.
The Spider-Man Play Set will feature a storyline which follows the Green Goblin as he tries to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. once and for all. After capturing Venom to extract and clone symbiotes from him, he hires Mysterio to be his second in command and wreak havoc on the Marvel universe. Players will fight the spreading symbiotes and face Mysterio and Green Goblin in in the sewers, labs and skies above Manhattan.
Key highlights for the Spider-Man Play Set include:
Although announcements have yet to come out directly out of the Disney Interactive camp, several news items regarding ‘Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition’ have come forward at the E3 Expo event in Los Angeles.
Sony announced that it will exclusively offer the Hulk playable figure ahead of its general release with the collector’s edition of ‘Disney Infinity 2.0′ for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. The collector’s edition will also include a display base for the figures. Additionally, the game will be available on both PSTV and PlayStation Vita as well as part of a special PlayStation 3 bundle.
In conjunction with today’s theatrical release of Maleficent, Disney Interactive unveiled new details for Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition playable characters Maleficent and Merida. In addition to a game play trailer, final concept art for the figure as well as screen shots of the duo in action inside the Toy Box were also released and can be seen below.
Merida: With her untamed fiery red locks, this headstrong Princess will definitely leave her mark in Disney Infinity. Between her sharp sword and bow combo attacks with ricocheting arrows, she can upgrade her aim with elemental freeze arrows, freezing enemies in front of her then following up with rapid shots showing off her impressive athletic skills as an archer and sword fighter.

Disney Interactive and Marvel Entertainment today confirmed that the world’s most iconic Super Heroes are assembling for ‘Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes’ – the 2.0 edition of the #1 best-selling new hybrid toy / video game of 2013, according to the NPD Group’s video games retail sales data.
‘Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes’ features more than 20 new interactive figures from across the Marvel universe, original storylines penned by award-wining Marvel comic writer Brian Michael Bendis, and an all-new Toy Box mode that makes it easier for players to create and share their one-of-a-kind levels and mini-games with family and friends. In addition, all characters and power discs from last year’s release of Disney Infinity will be compatible with the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Toy Box.
Confirming earlier reports by Stitch Kingdom which included what appeared to be ‘Disney Infinity’ concept art for a Captain America edition to the popular Disney cross-over console game, Marvel has just released a teaser for ‘Disney Infinity 2.0′ titled ‘Get Ready to Assemble’ which features a cameo appearance by none-other than Captain America’s Shield alongside existing Disney and Pixar characters currently available in the game’s first iteration.
More information as it develops.
