Sofia and her family take to the high seas for a royal vacation in the first-ever ‘Sofia the First’ primetime special, ‘Sofia the First: The Floating Palace,’ premiering Sunday, November 24 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel and Thursday, November 28 at 7:00 pm ET/PT on the Disney Junior channel. The undersea adventure, in which Sofia is magically transformed into a mermaid, features a special appearance by Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid, voiced by Disney Legend Jodi Benson who reprises her iconic role from the animated film. The special also introduces a new character named Oona, a young mermaid voiced by Kiernan Shipka.
Ludorum plc announced today that its hit train-based preschool series, ‘Chuggington,’ will make its fourth season debut on Disney Junior on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 7:00 pm ET/PT with its first-ever primetime Chuggington special, ‘Chug Patrol: Ready to Rescue!’ The newest season of the vibrantly-colorful animated series promises to deliver even more action and adventure with everyone’s favorite trainees — Wilson, Brewster and Koko — along with exciting new characters and locations.
Production has begun on the first Disney Junior Original Movie, Lucky Duck, a music-filled, animated adventure at sea starring the voices of Christian Borle, Megan Hilty and Tom Cavanaugh. The movie follows a plucky rubber ducky named Lucky (Borle) who, after accidentally being tossed off a cargo ship, sets off in search of the perfect home. Along the way, he teams with a group of misfit tub toys including a sassy hippo, Flo (Hilty) and an apprehensive turtle named Snap (Cavanaugh). The movie is slated to premiere in summer 2014 on Disney Junior in the U.S. and thereafter on Disney Junior channels around the world. The announcement was made today by Joe D’Ambrosia, Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Junior.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Never Land Rescue’ will be coming to DVD on November 19, following its television debut on Disney Channel at 6 pm ET/PT on September 29. The special marks the first appearance of Tinker Bell on the popular Disney Junior series. Broken toys had nothing to fear this past weekend at Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, California as Doc McStuffins made her debut to meet and greet with fans — and cuddles were definitely prescribed. We were fortunate to catch up with Doc between appointments where she proudly displayed one of the in-booth giveaways from Disney Junior: a tote with her own likeness on it.
No word at this time if and when she’ll be making appearances in Disney Parks but given her immense popularity and having been recently added to Disney Junior Live On Stage (alongside Princess Sofia the First who started appearing not too long ago at the Disneyland Resort and just yesterday began appearing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort), it’s a good bet she just may.
Production has begun on the animated series “Miles From Tomorrowland,” a space adventure for preschoolers. Slated to debut in 2015 on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world, the series follows the outer space voyages of young adventurer Miles and his family. The announcement was made today by Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.
Kanter said, “We hope this series will influence a child’s interest in science and technology by introducing them at an early age to the exciting world of space exploration, how things work and what lies beyond the here and now.”
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment today announced that ‘Sofia the First: Ready to be a Princess‘ — featuring five episodes, including a visit by Disney’s Princess Jasmine — will be arriving on DVD on September 17, 2013. In addition to the five episodes, each DVD comes complete with a bonus exclusive Sofia Doll Dress Up Kit.
