The Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) captured 69 Primetime Emmy nominations, it was announced today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This total reflects nominations for ABC Television Network, ABC Studios, ABC.com and Disney Channel programming.
The stars of Disney XD’s hit comedy series “Zeke and Luther” — Hutch Dano (Zeke), Adam Hicks (Luther) and Daniel Curtis Lee (Kojo) — will greet fans at multiple AT&T retails stores across the U.S. beginning SATURDAY, JUNE 26. Each local event, hosted in conjunction with Disney XD, AT&T U-verse® TV and Radio Disney, the No.1 radio outlet for kids, tweens and families, will feature one or two of the young actors plus entertainment by the Radio Disney Road Crew. Fans can submit an entry card in a drawing box at the retail store for the chance to win an Xbox 360 to be given away every 20 minutes during the event at each store. Winners will be selected in random drawings.*
Rita Ferro, an executive with a strong track record in advertising sales and promotions, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Disney Media Sales and Marketing, effective June 28. Ms. Ferro will relocate to New York from Miami, where she’s been an integral part of Disney and ESPN’s Latin America business since 1997. She succeeds Tricia Wilber who was recently named Chief Marketing Officer, The Walt Disney Company, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
In her new role, Ferro will lead the integrated sales team that represents and maximizes advertising sales, marketing and promotions across The Walt Disney Company’s media platforms serving kids, moms and families, including its kid-driven, family inclusive TV channels, its wide-range of online offerings, its mom-focused publishing business, and its kid- and mom-focused radio platform. The portfolio, consists of Disney Channel, Disney XD, Playhouse Disney (soon to re-brand to Disney Junior), plus over 20 Disney Online properties serving kids, families and/or women including Disney.com, DisneyFamily.com, DisneyChannel.com, RadioDisney.com, Kaboose.com and FamilyFun.com, among others.
Ferro will report to three business unit leaders – Carolina Lightcap, president, Disney Channels Worldwide; Paul Yanover, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Online, and Russell Hampton, president, Disney Publishing Worldwide.
Ms. Lightcap said, “Rita has a great reputation in the advertising community and a strong background in generating strategic opportunities for diverse clients in a dynamic multichannel, multi-brand business.” She continued, “I am excited to be working closely with her again, and know our integrated ad sales team stands to benefit enormously from her keen insights, strong relationships and leadership skills.”
A second season has been ordered of Disney XD’s No. 1 series, “Kick Buttowski – Suburban Daredevil,” about an extraordinary kid named Kick who is determined to become the world’s greatest daredevil. Produced by Disney Television Animation, the network will begin rolling out new episodes of the hit animated comedy series in spring 2011. For the sophomore season, series creator Sandro Corsaro will serve as executive producer.
“Our viewers are rooting for Kick Buttowski and we are eager to bring them more laughs and adventures as the pint-size daredevil faces bigger challenges, stunts and chases with his unstoppable determination,” said Eric Coleman, Senior Vice President, Original Series, Disney Television Animation.
A jammin’ hip hop spin on a classic song, “In the Summertime,” with rap lyrics, performed by teen actors Adam Hicks and Daniel Curtis Lee (of the hit comedy series “Zeke and Luther”), will debut as Disney XD’s summer anthem on SATURDAY, MAY 29 (8:00 a.m., ET/PT). The music video for the song, a cover of the instantly recognizable classic released in 1970 by British pop-blues band Mungo Jerry, will rotate throughout the Disney XD summer schedule.
Hicks and Lee’s remake of “In the Summertime” will have its Planet Premiere on Radio Disney FRIDAY, MAY 28. The music video will also be available on DisneyXD.com and the Disney XD YouTube channel on Saturday.

A second season of “I’m In The Band,” a music-filled, live-action comedy series about a teenager who realizes his wildest dream when he joins his favorite “vintage” rock band, has been ordered by Disney XD, it was announced today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. Production will resume in June in Hollywood, California.
The new season finds the band inching their way closer to an epic comeback and includes a one-hour special where Tripp joins arch-rival rock band Metal Wolf. Iron Weasel attempts to lure him back during Metal Wolf’s performance at the Super Bowl, and by happenstance, ends up stealing the spotlight.
It’s a Laugh Productions, the company responsible for many of the half hour comedies on Disney Channel and Disney XD including Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, Suite Life on Deck and more, is set to begin production this summer on a new multi-camera half hour comedy titled Billion Dollar Freshmen.
In the series, Brad and Adam are not quite human ‘brothers’ who are actually government engineered robots that are scheduled to be demolished and replaced with upgraded versions. Upon learning of their fate, the robots escape and decide to hide out in the real world as real humans — small wonder!
Kids and tweens get a rare look into “the big leagues” through the eyes of a Major League batboy, in “Batboy,” a short-form reality special premiering on baseball’s Opening Day, MONDAY, APRIL 5 (7:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD, followed by multiple presentations throughout the week. It is produced by Major League Baseball Productions.
Coinciding with the start of baseball season, the special follows Daniel Chelgren, a teenage batboy with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and gives young viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be part of an MLB team, including shagging fly balls during batting practice, handling pre-game equipment prep and reviewing game strategy in the dugout with the professionals.
