High-wattage star power and notable creative teams from Disney’s favorite series for kids and families are the centerpiece of Disney Channel and Disney XD’s fan meetings at the leading pop culture convention, Comic-Con International 2012, Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 in San Diego.
Although it’s meant to make its online debut tomorrow, on the official Disney XD Facebook page, the 30+ minute prelude to the new ‘TRON: Uprising’ series, ‘Beck’s Beginning’ is now online for viewing on its YouTube channel. Having already seen the prelude twice, once as a screener a couple of days ago and once again today on Disney Channel on Demand, I don’t mind highly recommending viewing of the prelude by every one, even if they’ve never seen either film. It’s absolutely visually stunning and a great use of the medium for the series’ lore. I cannot wait for the series premiere on June 7.
Earlier this afternoon, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the screenwriters of TRON: Legacy sat down for a live Facebook interview moderated by IGN’s Eric Goldman, to talk about the upcoming animated series ‘TRON: Uprising,’ for which they serve as consulting producers. Throughout the half-hour talk, which featured a look at one of the ‘microsodes’ that compose the ‘Beck’s Beginning’ prelude, the team fielded questions from fans on Facebook. What follows is a bit of a recap from the event.

Disney XD has released concept art for its upcoming series ‘TRON: Uprising’ via the official Tron Facebookpage. The artwork provides us with ‘attitude sheets’ of a few of the primary characters including Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), Zed (voiced by Nate Corddry) and General Tesler (voiced by Lance Henriksen).
The images, available in the gallery below, complement the dozens of stills from the series’ debut special ‘Beck’s Beginning’ which we previously shared.
Disney’s hugely popular duck-billed, beaver-tailed, teal-colored character Perry the Platypus, as seen on “Phineas and Ferb,” the #1 animated series for kids and tweens, will be the main attraction on Platypus Day, Saturday, March 3. The celebration includes the introduction of “The Platypus Walk,” a catchy spy-surf-rock song and dance designed to encourage fun physical activity as part of Disney’s commitment to inspire kids and families to lead active lifestyles. The day also includes 11 hours of “Phineas and Ferb” programming including two new Perry-focused episodes on Disney Channel and Disney XD, an interactive website dedicated to Perry the Platypus, a fun giveaway and special Platypus Takeover at all Disney Stores in the U.S. & Canada and events via local Radio Disney stations across the nation.
Via its official YouTube channel, Disney XD has released the following promo which highlights new and returning series in 2012. The new series being teased amongst the clips include ‘TRON Uprising,’ ‘Motorcity,’ ‘Lab Rats’ and ‘Ultimate Spider-Man.’
In ‘TRON Uprising’ — which takes place between both of the films, one young man named Beck (Elijah Wood) must join forces with the legendary hero Tron to free his home city when the computer world of The Grid is taken over by an evil tyrant. Under Tron’s tutelage, Beck will take on a secret identity to fight back, bringing a superhero sensibility to the world of Tron. Also starring in ‘TRON Uprising’ are the vocal talents of Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens and Bruce Boxleitner as Tron. According to the junior novelization description on Amazon.com, the animated film will premiere in spring, followed by the series in summer.
Powered by its biggest yearly ratings ever, Disney XD will premiere more original content with “Lab Rats,” a comedy series about a teenager and his newfound “siblings,” a trio of super-human teens, who together must navigate typical high school and — not so typical — bionic glitches. The series will join Disney XD’s popular “Monday Mayhem” comedy block — led by the channel’s #1 series “Kickin’ It” — with a special one-hour episode on Monday, February 27 at 8:30 pm ET/PT hosted by the cast.
We have learned that the widely anticipated animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, based on the Marvel comic title of the same name, will debut on Disney XD on April 1, 2012. The show will be the centerpiece of a programming block dedicated to Marvel properties.
The series follows Peter Parker (Drake Bell) one year after he became Spider-Man. Still learning how to make the most of his powers, he is approached by Nick Fury (Chi McBride) of S.H.I.E.L.D. who promises to help Peter, but first Peter must learn to work as a team with his fellow teenaged superheroes. Expected to appear in the series are Tony Stark/Iron Man (Adrian Pasdar), Norman Osborn (Steven Weber), J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), Agent/Principal Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Wasp, Captain America, Hulk and Thor.
The hit Disney XD comedy series “Pair of Kings” will resume production for a third season and popular actor Adam Hicks (Disney XD’s “Zeke and Luther,” Disney Channel’s “Lemonade Mouth”) will join the cast as a new character, a long lost brother, added to the story of the unusual island of Kinkow, it was announced today by Adam Bonnett, Senior Vice President, Original Series, Disney Channels Worldwide. “Pair of Kings” will continue without the character Brady played by Mitchel Musso. The actor, singer/songwriter will continue his role as the voice of Jeremy Johnson in Disney’s Emmy Award-winning series “Phineas and Ferb.”
