Disneyland Hotel Becomes Resort’s Second to Earn AAA Four Diamond Award

New Disneyland Hotel Monorail slide pool (Paul Hiffmeyer/Disneyland)AAA has bestowed its coveted 2012 Four Diamond award upon the landmark Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California making it the second property at the Disneyland Resort to secure such a high rating.

The designation was announced in a recent letter to the resort. The announcement noted that only four percent of the 31,000 hotel properties AAA reviews achieve this enviable distinction.

“This is tremendous news, especially for the 1,000 Cast Members who work at the Disneyland Hotel and create magical experiences for our guests,” said Tony Bruno, vice president resort hotels and Downtown Disney.  “The award underscores our continued investment in the guest experience and all our ongoing work, which has transformed the Disneyland Resort and Anaheim into Southern California’s world-class, multiday tourist destination.”

Disneyland Hotel Announces Milestone in Largest Renovation in Its History

Disneyland Resort today announced the completion of significant upgrades to the Disneyland Hotel, marking a milestone in the landmark property’s current renovation project. A new courtyard, restaurant, bar, pool and water play area add immersive experiences to a Disneyland Resort vacation.

“This exciting renovation extends the immersion and magic of our park experience to this classic hotel,” said Tony Bruno, vice president Resort hotels and Downtown Disney. “We’ve woven important pieces of Disneyland park history into the Disneyland Hotel, particularly with the reopening of the pool and courtyard area. These nostalgic enhancements not only highlight the hotel’s unique heritage, but also our continued investment in the guest experience and our ongoing work to evolve the Resort and Anaheim into a world-class, multiday tourist destination.”

Disneyland Cast Members Celebrate Disneyland Hotel’s 55th Birthday

Photo courtesy Disneyland Resort.The Disneyland Hotel was built, owned and operated by Walt Disney’s friend Jack Wrather in 1955, opening just about five months after the Disneyland Park. In 1961, the Disneyland Monorail was expanded to allow transportation between the park and the hotel’s guests, making it the first monorail to cross over a public street. It wasn’t until 1988 that the Disneyland Resort acquired the hotel from The Wrather Corporation.

Disneyland Hotel to Receive New Pool, Dining Options and Guest Tower Re-theming

Disneyland Resort today announced substantial upgrades to the pool and courtyard areas of the Disneyland Hotel, continuing the landmark property’s current renovation project. Changes will include building a new pool and water play area, renovating an existing pool, opening a new restaurant and bar, and re-theming of the hotel’s three guest room towers.

“These exciting enhancements, along with our current Disneyland Hotel renovation and the expansion of Disney’s California Adventure, underscore our ongoing investment in the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Resort District,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Disneyland Resort. “We are proud to collaborate with city and businesses leaders as we continue to evolve the area into a world-class, multiday tourist destination.”

Fan Event to Pay Homage to Audio Animatronics with Disney Legends

The 1313 Club is hosting an event with Ape Pen Publishing on September 18 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney’s Marvelous Mechanized Magic Kingdom will bring together Disney Legends such as Bob Gurr, Alice Davis, Blaine Gibson, Rolly Crump, X Atencio and more alongside actual audio animatronics from Garner Holt Productions.

The event will illustrate Disney’s incredible mechanical achievements by spotlighting attractions, characters, and memorable devices created by the Disney Studios and, later, the MAPO arm of WED Imagineering.  Using rare images, video, and authentic props and animatronics, guests will gain insight into the fascinating MAPO division as never before.  Disney Legends will shed light on this little known but highly intriguing aspect of Disney history—plus performances by Disneyland entertainers and the World premiere of the world’s most advanced animatronic figure.

Landmark Disneyland Hotel to Undergo Significant Renovation

ANAHEIM, CALIF. June 16, 2009 – Beginning in August 2009, Southern California’s landmark Disneyland Hotel will start a significant renovation project that will include major improvements to its guest rooms and considerable changes to the exterior of the hotel. The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which will be conducted in phases, and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

“We are excited to embark on the largest and most extensive renovation of one of Disney’s classic hotels,” said Disneyland Resort President Ed Grier. “This renovation provides us with the opportunity to bring new magic to this historic hotel, which enables us to enhance the Disney experience that our guests have come to expect. “It also reinforces our ongoing commitment and investment in the Anaheim Resort District – working with the city and area businesses to continue to evolve the District into a world-class, multiday tourist destination,” added Grier.
