World's Largest Swimming Lesson at Disney's Typhoon LagoonMore than 500 guests of all ages at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon at the Walt Disney World Resort joined more than 10,000 participants on four continents for the record-breaking World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 3.

Participants at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon also received a free DVD, Disney’s Wild About Safety with Timon and Pumbaa: Safety Smart in the Water. In the DVD, Timon and Pumbaa help children learn that fun in the water starts with safety.

Disney Store Celebrates ‘Toy Story 3′ with Family Activities All Month Long

Throughout the month of June, be sure to visit your local Disney Store for fun family activities in honor of the release of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3.

Some of the events taking place this month include:

  • Toy Story 3 Craft Activity (June 5): Now kids can create their very own adventure for Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the whole Toy Story 3 gang with a 2-D playset they will put together in the store (while supplies last). Parents don’t forget to bring your camera because there will be plenty of great photo opportunities you won’t want to miss. This event will be from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

D23 and Walt Disney Archives to Honor Dave Smith in 40th Anniversary Event June 25

Dave Smith © DisneyFor four decades, The Walt Disney Archives has been home to the most treasured items from Disney’s fabled history, and on Friday, June 25, the Archives will mark its 40th anniversary with a special celebration at the Walt Disney Studios.

During the event, Disney President and CEO Bob Iger, noted film historian Leonard Maltin and other surprise guests will honor Dave Smith, the founder of The Walt Disney Archives and Disney’s chief archivist, for his achievements in preserving the Disney legacy.

The special celebration is open exclusively to members of D23, Disney’s official fan club, and tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime Walt Disney Archives 40th Anniversary Celebration are currently on sale exclusively at http://www.disney.com/D23.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon to Play Host to World’s Largest Swimming Lesson June 3

Noting that drowning is the second cause of unintentional cause of death of children below the age of 15, the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) is aiming to set a Guiness World’s Record tomorrow across four continents with the participation of over 10,000 children.

The headquarters for the event will be the wave pool at Walt Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Olympic Gold Medalist and WLSL spokesperson Rowdy Gaines will be in attendance along with hundreds of children and their families to participate in the event which will kick off at 9:45 am ET with the record-breaking attempt taking place at 10 am.

All 2011 Walt Disney World Marathon Finishers to Receive Special Mickey Medal, Free Park Admission

In addition to a tremendous sense of accomplishment, a magical reward will await everyone who completes the Walt Disney World Marathon presented by Cigna in 2011: a new Mickey Mouse race medal and a free day at Disney.

As part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to encourage guests to celebrate the milestones in their lives at a Disney park, finishers at the Disney Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, will receive complimentary admission to a Walt Disney World theme park the Monday after the race.

Details on life-size LEGO Captain Jack Sparrow In celebration of the Blu-ray™ & DVD release of Alice in Wonderland on June 1, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE), in partnership with Disney Consumer Products (DCP),  unveiled a first-of-its-kind Alice In Wonderland Exhibition in the FIDM Museum & Galleries at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles.

Colleen Atwood (Academy Award® winning designer; Best Achievement in Costume Design for Memoirs of a Geisha in 2005 and Best Costume Design for Chicago in 2002) was in attendance along with Nick Verreos (star of “Project Runway”, graduate and instructor at FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and NIKOLAKI owner/designer) and Kerli (singer/songwriter of “Strange” and “Tea Party”, featured on the film’s soundtrack).

Walt Disney Imagineering to Sponsor ‘Come Out & Play 2010′ Weekend in NYC

Created in 2006, ‘Come Out & Play’ is a free weekend-long street game festival inviting players from all around the world to engage in real world games and activities — often based on video games — that encourage exploration of the home city.

Walt Disney Imagineering is a partner in this year’s festival which takes place in Brooklyn, NY from June 4 – 6. WDI’s contribution to the festival comes in the form of a real world MMO titled Unwritten Storybook in which up to 50 players will compete and collaborate with each other to accomplish various tasks such as building a castle or herding unicorns.
