On November 13, 1997, Disney brought the staged, musical adaptation of its animated smash, The Lion King, to Broadway. Fifteen years later, it is now the the fifth longest-running musical in Broadway history, contains to sell out nightly and consistently has one of the top box-office intakes out of the dozens of theatrical offerings on Broadway alone.
Disney D23, the fan club of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that on Tuesday, November 27, it will be allowing a limited number of its members and their guests a rare opportunity to meet and greet in person with Kermit the Frog and Pepe the King Prawn at the Disney Store Times Square in New York City. The meet & greet opportunity will follow an exclusive conversation with the Muppets.
In addition to the event, D23 members will also have the opportunity to shop at the store and receive a special 15% discount. Cast members will also be armed with Muppet-related prizes for answering trivia questions.
Walt Disney World has released a list of opportunities for ringing in the new year at the resort this year from the theme parks to opportunities at Downtown Disney and Disney hotels.
At Epcot, guests can dance away 2012 to the beat of the DJs stationed at select pavilions throughout the evening and watch ‘IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth’ salute the new year at 7 p.m. and 11:42 p.m. A buffet dining experience inspired by Disney’s classic animated films Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will take place at World ShowPlace facility, with reservations available from 4:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Priced at $68.67 for adults and $44.37 for children. Park admission is required.
In celebration of Disney’s new stop-motion animated movie Frankenweenie, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton and opening October 5 in 3D, Walt Disney World Resort is hosting a variety of engaging experiences inspired by the new movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland. The fun takes place at Downtown Disney West Side Sept. 28 – 30, 2012.

Glen Keane and other Disney artists will be joining their contemporaries in participating in the GRworks ‘First 10+’ art show taking place this weekend at the Robert Reynolds Gallery in Los Angeles, California. Featuring original art (some of which can be sampled on the official website), the exhibition kicks off this evening with its opening reception from 6 pm – 10 pm. The exhibit will open on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15 from 11 am – 7 pm.
Original artwork and prints will be available for purchase (we are told Glen Keane’s work will be among that available) and a portion of proceeds go to support local art projects.
ABC Family scares up 13 NIGHTS OF HALLOWEEN for the 14th consecutive spine tingling year, with programming filled with chills and thrills as you countdown to Halloween. The popular programming event, starting Friday, October 19, and concluding on Wednesday, October 31, features a brand new episode of “Pretty Little Liars” featuring special guest “glampire” Adam Lambert, and the season finale of “Switched at Birth.” The stunt will also include the basic cable premiere of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” the ABC Family feature film premiere of “Monster House,” and “Poltergeist III,” and a massive mix of Halloween-themed programming airing for the 13 nights leading up to Halloween.
Walt Disney World has updated its official Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween event page to include a link to the official guide map / times guide for 2012. There really are no surprises this year, save for the ‘Not So Scary Street Jam!’ pre-parade on Main Street, USA which is mercifully left off of the map.
In honor of the release of the ‘Austin & Ally’ soundtrack, from the popular Disney Channel series of the same name, co-star Ross Lynch will be appearing at Studio Disney 365, located in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort on September 23, 2012, for a CD release and signing event.
To participate in the signing, guests must purchase a copy of the CD at Studio Disney 365 beginning at 8 am on September 23 (limit of two CDs per guest). Guests will receive a single voucher allowing them to return to meet with Ross Lynch from 1 – 4 pm. There will be a maximum of 300 guests allowed to partake in the event.
The Disneyland Resort has announced that it will be offering a special preview opportunity for Annual Passholders to view the ‘Art of Frankenweenie‘ traveling exhibit on the evening of September 13, before it becomes accessible to regular park guests.
Passholders have the choice of packages, either a simple viewing experience or a complete dining package with both experiences taking place after park closing.
The Disneyland Resort has announced that it will be offering a special preview of the fall 2012 menu at PCH Grill, located at the Paradise Pier Hotel, for annual passholders throughout September. The prix fixe cost for the meal is $34.99 per person prior to any eligible passholder discounts and includes an appetizer, entree, dessert, soft drink and FASTPASS tickets to World of Color for the same evening as dining.
