Disney lovers are invited to celebrate with Disney D23, the official fan club of The Walt Disney Company, this summer as it brings its annual anniversary event to Disney fans in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston, Chicago and Walt Disney World (Orlando).
Can’t make it to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom or Disneyland within the next 24 hours but wish you could convince all your friends, neighbors, strangers and yourself you were there anyway? If so, DisneyStore.com has some really good news for you: the theme park merchandise celebrating the event is available for purchase online for today only.
Both styles of the ‘One More Disney’ tees are available for online purchase and for each coast. The color edition of the ‘I took the leap and didn’t sleep’ tee is available for both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom in mens’ and childrens’ sizes, as well as hoodie (Disneyland, adults only). Also available is the single-toned ladies’ v-neck tee for both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom.
The special limited edition merchandise commemorates the ‘One More Disney Day’ event in which both the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park are both open for 24 hours straight on Leap Day, February 29, 2012, from 6 am through 6 pm.
Not a dry eye was in the house, as Miss Piggy — dressed by Zac Posen with shoes by Christian Louboutin, jewelry by Fred Leighton and hair by Kim Kimble — and long-time partner Kermit the Frog took to the red carpet at the 84th Annual Academy Awards held this evening where they will be presenting, marking the fifth appearance by the Muppets on the telecast. The Muppets was nominated and won for a ‘Best Song’ for ‘Man or Muppet’ written by Bret McKenzie.
On March 17 and March 18, the Disneyland Resort and ABC Family unite to create a street fair to ‘embrace the social, technological and artistic accomplishments of world-renowned Deaf talent and local community organizations.’

On a tour to celebrate the second anniversary of her Let’s Move! initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to hundreds of children and parents at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex about the importance of healthy living. She also recognized the efforts of Disney Magic of Healthy Living, which partners with parents in their quest to raise healthy, happy kids.
“I want to thank Disney for all that they’ve done to support “Let’s Move” and to make sure our kids are eating right and being active,” Obama told the audience before joining Disney Channel and Disney XD stars for the new dance, “The Platypus Walk,” inspired by the hugely popular “Phineas and Ferb” character Perry the Platypus.
On Saturday, March 17, join Disney Design Group Artist Randy Noble and Disney Ink and Paint Artists: Erin Magill, Theodora M. DeLaney, David Rippberger, Lynn Rippberger and Sharon K. Vincent as they celebrate the premiere of the Mickey’s Railroad Adventure entry into the Ink and Paint Cel series. The cel invites you to take a trip with Mickey, Minnie and Donald aboard the train.
Disney’s hugely popular duck-billed, beaver-tailed, teal-colored character Perry the Platypus, as seen on “Phineas and Ferb,” the #1 animated series for kids and tweens, will be the main attraction on Platypus Day, Saturday, March 3. The celebration includes the introduction of “The Platypus Walk,” a catchy spy-surf-rock song and dance designed to encourage fun physical activity as part of Disney’s commitment to inspire kids and families to lead active lifestyles. The day also includes 11 hours of “Phineas and Ferb” programming including two new Perry-focused episodes on Disney Channel and Disney XD, an interactive website dedicated to Perry the Platypus, a fun giveaway and special Platypus Takeover at all Disney Stores in the U.S. & Canada and events via local Radio Disney stations across the nation.
Even if he’s not recognized by name, the most casual of Disney Parks guest is likely to be familiar with the work of ‘multimedia dimensional artist’ Dave Avanzino. Among his prized works include shadowboxed themed signs — such as Disney theme park names or lands — in which the letters are comprised of 3-dimensional paper sculpture ‘objects’ that are related to the theme being spelled out.
Those who attended last year’s Disney D23 Expo may have also met Avanzino himself inside the D23 Dream Store. There, Avanzino was testing out a pilot program in which attendees could commission their own personalized sign and choose from a wide assortment of themed alphabets and mix’n’match for the desired effect.
