Earlier today, several hundred Disneyland Resort cast members gathered in the courtyard of the reimagined Disneyland Hotel to mark the completion of the historic hotel’s multiyear renovation. Final touches to the porte-cochere and tower lobbies were added this month, following more than two years of work by Disney Imagineers and cast members to reinvigorate the hotel into a family destination that pays tribute to the early days of Disneyland. Guests are now able to enjoy completely redesigned guest rooms, a new courtyard, restaurant, bar, pool and water play area, as well as themed suites and a dramatic new look to the exterior of the hotel. Changes have restored and highlighted the hotel’s original midcentury style with sleek, modern amenities. For the first time in 25 years, the Disneyland Hotel earned a coveted 2012 AAA Four Diamond award.

Disney Parks and Resorts almost had us. Back in August, we revealed that we had learned Disney Parks and Resorts was working on something dubbed ‘One More Disney Day.’ Due to the timing (close to when new campaigns were usually announced) and the Disney D23 Expo looming ahead, we naturally made the assumption that it must be the campaign for the 2012 year.
Well months came and went and we ended up sporting egg on our face as we found out Disney Parks went ahead and created a page dedicated to ‘One More Disney Day.’ The problem? It ended up seeming more like a blase sales pitch then anything else. Hey, stay another day. Why not? Why not indeed.
How many months have 29 days? All of them if it happens to be a leap year and that aspect of 2012 seems to be the cornerstone of what Disney Parks and Resorts is billing as a big New Year’s Eve ‘surprise announcement.’ Leave it to Disney Parks to schedule and pre-premote their spontaneous surprises.
Walt Disney Parks began taping its portion of the 28th Annual ‘Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade’ special today at the Magic Kingdom theme park. Performances were provided by Cee Lo Green, Jennifer Hudson and ‘American Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery, with some additional appearances by the Buddies (promoting their new film, Treasure Buddies and Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets.
The tapings continue tomorrow with expected performances by Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman of Disney Channel’s ‘Shake It Up’ and a rumored performance by Justin Bieber.
The Disneyland Resort performed its portion of the parade in early November.
Dressed for the colder weather (read: completely naked save for a scarf), Kermit the Frog of the Muppets was on-hand yesterday evening to assist with the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington, DC.
Hosted by Carson Daly, the ceremony also featured performances by OneRepublic, Rodney Atkins, Marsha Ambrosius and Big Time Rush. Kermit joined First Lady Michelle Obama as she read a story to the attending children.
The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony marks the opening of the four-week event sponsored by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s National Parks.
A little gardening magic will go a long way when an eight-foot-tall floral Sorcerer Mickey topiary holds court at the entrance to the 19th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival March 7 – May 20, 2012 at Walt Disney World Resort. Standing atop a 12-foot-tall floral mountain cliff and towering above the park’s front-entrance topiary bed, the commanding Sorcerer Mickey will direct a riot of color in the manicured shapes of dancing broomsticks, buckets, mushrooms, hippos, alligators and elephants straight from the classic Disney film, Fantasia.
