First Listen: Gipsy Kings Perform ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Para Buzz Español)’ for Toy Story 3
Filmmakers called on Gipsy Kings for a flamenco-flavored rendition of ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ in Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3. The world-famous band recorded ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Para Buzz Español)’ in London at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Pictured from left to right are Gipsy Kings’ Bernard Paganotti, Andre Reyes, Tonnino Baliardo, (front) Rodolfo Pacheco, Nicolas Reyes and Jacques Baliardo.
‘In Toy Story 3, Buzz Lightyear accidentally gets switched into Spanish-language mode, and there’s a fun Paso Doble-inspired dance between “Spanish Buzz”‘ and Jessie,’ says director Lee Unkrich. ‘We got the crazy idea to have a band record a raucous flamenco cover of Toy Story‘s signature song in Spanish, and we thought the Gipsy Kings would be perfect.’
Hitting theaters this summer, Toy Story 3 is a comical new 3D adventure, featuring Buzz, Woody and the gang as Andy gears up for college and his loyal toys find themselves in… daycare! The Toy Story 3 soundtrack will be available digitally from Walt Disney Records on June 15 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
