Disney China Films Get North American Release Date on Disney DVD

In addition to our earlier news that the recent Disney India films will soon be getting a domestic release on Disney DVD on July 26, we have learned that two of Disney China’s films will also be released in North America, this time on September 6, as part of the ‘Disney World Cinema’ collection.
Trail of the Panda
High in the mountains of the Sichuan province of China, a ten year old mute orphan boy, Lu, rescues a lost panda cub separated from its mother. As Lu struggles to protect the cub from trappers, the two form a unique connection. He names the panda cub Pang Pang or “Chubby” and gradually, finds the confidence to speak again. When the cub is captured, Lu is forced to choose between his new companion and helping Pang Pang find its way home. Discover the true meaning of friendship in this moving story of a boy touched by the love of a panda cub.
High School Musical China
A new student at an international college in Shanghai meets a gifted young man, with whom she shares a secret passion for singing. Without her parents support, she and her new group of friends enter an inter-school singing competition and discover their true calling and the value of true friendship. Anything is possible when you follow your dreams!
Both films are recorded in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles.

Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure is a hilarious fish-out-of-water tale about a small town Diva and her dog’s mis-adventures in New York City! After a talent scout spots her performing with her dog Boi at a charity gala, Sharpay Evans (AshleyTisdale) sets off for the bright lights of NYC, convinced instant fame and fortune are in the bag (designer, that is). But the theatre is a dog-eat-dog world, as she and Boi discover when they encounter the devious owner of a pampered Pooch named “Countess” and a scheming Broadway starlet who will do anything to crush the competition. Fortunately, Sharpay also meets Peyton (Austin Butler), a handsome student filmmaker who finds Sharpay nearly as fascinating as she finds herself.

New ‘Disney Channel Rocks!’ Stage Show Headed to Disney Parks This Holiday Season
WDW Character Hunt is reporting that the High School Musical 3 show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing October 2 and will be replaced by an all new show titled Disney Channel Rocks! on October 22. The new show will feature songs from Disney Channel original movies High School Musical, Camp Rock and StarStruck.
The show will also be coming to the Disney California Adventure theme park as well according to an audition notice posted earlier today.
The notice also announces an additional show titled Disney Dance Crew which is described as ‘a hip, contemporary dance show in the mold of “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”‘

The Walt Disney Company China Announces Local Adaptation ‘Disney High School Musical: China’
BURBANK, Calif. and SHANGHAI, Nov. 22 — The Walt Disney Company in China today announced the start of production on its third local co-production project in just two years, “Disney High School Musical: China.” Working with local partners Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and Huayi Brothers Media Corporation, the movie is planned for cinematic release in summer 2010.
Under development for over a year, and created uniquely for Chinese audiences, “Disney High School Musical: China” is the story of a new student who meets a gifted young man with whom she shares a secret passion for singing. With the help of their friends they overcome the odds to win an inter-school singing competition, and discover their true calling in the process.
“Disney’s ongoing commitment to local content development underpins our strategy to connect with new audiences around the world,” said Mr. Jason Reed, general manager, Walt Disney Studios International Production. “Our local team has done an amazing job and we are fortunate to be building on the Disney Channel’s success by working with a world class cast and crew led by our producer Janet Yang and visionary director Shi Zheng Chen.
“The choice of the right stories and best local partners is key to the success of our localization strategy. Shanghai Media Group and Huayi Brothers Media Corporation are leaders in their field and their involvement and contribution to this project is invaluable,” added Mr. Reed.
In 2007, the Studio’s first Disney branded local co-production, the award-winning, “The Magic Gourd” was released, followed by “Roadside Romeo” from India in 2008, “Trail of the Panda” (China 2009) and the feature film, “Book of Masters” (Russian 2009), based on a classic Russian fairy tale which opened in first place at the box office in October. Disney’s sixth local production “Zokkomon” is currently in development in India and is expected to open in 2010.
