Photo Gallery: ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ World Premiere and Concert in Bryant Park

Sorcerer Mickey Mouse,Nicolas Cage On what reportedly turned out to be the hottest day in New York City in more than thirty years, the cast and crew of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Films (not to mention yours truly) braved the sun to celebrate the world premiere of the film earlier this week.

The event kicked off at the beginning of the carpet where New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with the film’s talent and the original Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Mickey Mouse, gathered to declare July 6 as Sorcerer’s Apprentice Day throughout the city. Then the stars began parading down the red and shadeless carpet to the New Amsterdam Theatre, where the screening was to be held. Unfortunately due to carpet position and the sun’s unwilligness to forgive, many of the invitees would eventually break away from the carpet and dash inside, so the opportunities for one poor Disney blogger were rare.

To that end, there were a couple of standouts. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer eventually made his way down the carpet, paying his regards to the press. Star and executive producer Nicolas Cage, however, was truly exceptional, not only responding to all, but answering questions at length, all the while waving to his adoring fans who were staked out across 42nd Street or simply driving by.

It was also very difficult not to be captivated by the lovely Teresa Palmer, who portrays love-interest Becky Barnes. Although one would never know it from her performances, Teresa is an Aussie and has a very heavy (but charming) accent to prove it. The children from the film — Jake Cherry, Peyton List and Robert Capron were also delightful.

After the screening of the movie, the night’s festivities moved on to Bryant Park where the stars of the film along with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turtletaub conducted a brief Q&A session at an event open to all. Although One Republic — whose hit song Secrets is featured in the film – was expected to perform during the mini-concert, cited health reasons kept lead singer Ryan Tedder at bay. Instead, Hollywood Records recording artist Alpha Rev doubled-up on their performance, treating the crowd to an impressive show consisting of about six or seven songs.

Epilogue: I really ought to be a concert photographer.

New Extended Look at ‘Fantasia’-Inspired Mop Scene from Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Walt Disney Studios and the Disney Channel have just released this clip of Sorcerer’s Apprentice stars Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel introducing the scene in the new film inspired by the title segment from Disney’s Fantasia in which the apprentice breaks a cardinal rule and attempts to use his new-found craft as a shortcut only to find himself knee-deep in trouble (and water).

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer opens nationwide on July 14. For all of our coverage of the film, check this bookmark.

Walt Disney Studios Conjures up Two New Television Ads for ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’

Walt Disney Studios has just made two of its new television spots for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Neither appears to offer much in the way of new cool footage and completely focus on the relationship between Sorcerer Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) and Apprentice Dave (Jay Baruchel), but they’re still worth a look.

‘Apprentice Wanted’ plays on the theme of the film’s tagline: the coolest ever and basically reads as a typical want ad with footage of the film tossed in for good measure.

New Clip from ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice:’ The Coolest Scene Ever

The movie with the tagline The Coolest Job Ever introduces to us what it calls The Coolest Scene Ever in this new peek at the upcoming release from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Back in 1940, Mickey Mouse thrilled audiences as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, a student of the great wizard Yensid (that’s Disney backwards), when an attempted work shortcut using magic ran afoul. Just 70 years later, the film based on that single sequence from Disney’s Fantasia pays its homage when apprentice Dave (Jay Baruchel) ignores the advice of his master Balthazar (Nicolas Cage).

New Trailer for Disney’s ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice:’ More F/X Than Ever!

It’s hard to imagine given what we’ve already seen from the new Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer joint The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, loosely based on the Fantasia segment of the same name that there could be even more F/X to ogle.

Truth is though, most of the F/X shots you’ll find in the new trailer have been seen in previously released clips, but the trailer now pays special attention to them, offering us more of the amazing sights the film has to offer. Of special note is the Wall Street Bull that temporarily takes over the Bowling Green area of Manhattan, the initial insect-ized appearance of Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) and — of course — the homage to the film’s inspiration, the quintessential mop scene that results when the apprentice Dave (Jay Baruchel) defies the wizard Balthazar’s (Nicolas Cage) strict rule to never use magic as a shortcut.
