Disney’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ Arrives on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D November 16

Although the insert contained in the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray/DVD announces A Christmas Carol from director Robert Zemeckis will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack on November 16, it lacks any mention of the Blu-ray 3D version that Disney had promised earlier this year.

Today, however, High-Def Digest reports that the Blu-ray 3D version will in fact be incorporated into a BD 3D/BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack (MSRP $49.99) while a stand-alone Blu-ray version will also be available (MSRP $39.99). Both editions will be available on November 16, 2010.

In addition, the site also reports bonus material including: Capturing A Christmas Carol, On Set with Sammi, Deleted scenes, BonusView: Behind the Carol – the full motion capture experience and Digital Advent Calendar (BD only) and ‘Scrooge’s Wild Ride’ (BD 3D only).

Blu-ray 3D requires both a special television and BD player capable of playing BD 3D technology. Amazon.com recently launched a store specializing in 3D which you can find here.

UPDATE: 5/25/10 – Amazon.com now has three editions available for pre-order: DVD, Blu-ray only and Blu-ray 3D/BD/DVD/Digital

Photo Gallery: Disney at the 2010 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

Last night, Nickelodeon held their 23rd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards at the UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion and there was no shortage of representation from the Disney family. In fact, Disney projects and stars dominated in the nominations with 19 in all including Favorite TV Show in which sole non-Disney nominee (and winner) iCarly defeated Disney Channel mainstays Sonny with a Chance, The Suite Life on Deck and Wizards of Waverly Place. The nominees even pitted Suite Life stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse together with Dylan proving to be the victor. Another pair of brothers – Nick and Joe Jonas — also were nominees in the same category of Favorite TV Actor.

Other awards for the Disney team last night included: Selena Gomez for Favorite TV Actress (Miley Cyrus also nominated); Miley Cyrus for Favorite Movie Actress (Sandra Bullock also nominated in part for The Proposal); UP for Favorite Animated Movie (A Christmas Carol also nominated); and Jim Carrey for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (A Christmas Carol).

Report: Jim Carrey, Bob Zemeckis, et al Bring ‘A Christmas Carol’ Train Tour to New York

Dozens of commuters got a big thrill early Friday morning when they caught a glimpse of actor Jim Carrey being driven through Grand Central Terminal on a pargo courtesy of the FDNY Fire Chief (well, let’s face it, it’s New York, so make it about 3 commuters who even noticed). Singing the theme to The Flintstones as he ‘pedaled’ the slow moving vehicle along, Carrey waved to and graciously greeted his fans as the vehicle’s light flashed and siren blared.

Rewind to just a few minutes before when Walt Disney Studios held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the final stop on the cross-country train tour to promote Disney’s A Christmas Carol. At a press conference held in front of the facade of the large, inflatable theater showing previews of the film, media, execs and guests were treated to a pre-show involving Christmas carolers and vaudevillian-type performers (who were also out entertaining passerbys all weekend long as well).

Kicking off the presentation was new Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, Rich Ross, who first introduced and brought to stage the Chief Marketing Officers of Amtrak and Hewlett-Packard, partners in the train tour promotion. Ross then introduced director Robert Zemeckis and Jim Carrey who took the stage together, although it was Carrey who ultimately commanded the stage. Also in presence were ImageMover Digital partners and producers of the film, Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke.

After a few brief words by Zemeckis, Carrey took the mic and gave his trademark zany performance. Carrey jokingly apologized for the poor timing of the film’s release, offering he was personally pushing for a May release before cutting the ribbon with a pair of over-sized scissors, but not before running around in circles with them poised high in the air.

For those who were unable to attend the train tour, the train consisted of several cars, each telling a different part of the film’s creative process.

The first car featured costumes from the Victorian era, concept art of several of the characters (including Scrooge at various ages), various items pertaining to Charles Dickens on loan from the London museum (including a first edition copy of A Christmas Carol) and video interviews which talked about the casting process and how the characters were modeled after the actors for the most part.

The second car included a series of maquettes and models including life-size busts (or heads anyway) of Scrooge and Cratchit and a large model of the mid-construction Big Ben.

The next two cars featured the MoCap setup complete with cameras and suit as videos played against the wall demonstrating the MoCap process with lots of footage of the actors filming

‘Disney’s A Christmas Carol’ Premieres in London November 3, 2009; Tickets Now on Sale

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 13 — London will host a traditional Dickensian Christmas with a little Disney magic this holiday season as Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and Academy Award -winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis come together to celebrate the World Premiere of “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” on November 3, 2009. The festivities include a history-making coordinated Christmas Lights Switch-On: for the first time ever, the world famous Christmas Lights on Regent and Oxford Streets, plus the festivities in The City of London – at the very heart of Dickensian London – will share the same theme of “Disney’s A Christmas Carol.”

The World Premiere of the fantasy adventure film will take place at London’s Leicester Square, utilizing three cinemas to create the biggest-ever 3D premiere. Filmmakers and the stars from “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” will be on hand for the red-carpet celebration and subsequent film screening. The World Premiere is in support of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children; Dickens was a founding patron of the facility. As part of its continued efforts on behalf of the hospital, The Walt Disney Company will be making a donation.

“In the spirit of Charles Dickens himself, we’re bringing together three of London’s richest holiday traditions in an unprecedented city-wide–or rather a worldwide–celebration,” said Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re expecting record-breaking attendance at the festivities, which will launch the holiday season, showcase our movie and celebrate the writer who, with the publication of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 1843, virtually reinvented Christmas.”

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
– Regent Street, Oxford Street and The City of London will each be decked out with decor, live entertainers and holiday spirit–all themed to “Disney’s A Christmas Carol.”
– Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and director Robert Zemeckis will take part in the celebration.
– Leicester Square will be bursting with its own holiday spirit, complete with Christmas carolers in period costumes, falling snow, live entertainment and several giant screens, allowing onlookers to witness each switch-on as it happens.
– The World Premiere will take place simultaneously in three theaters in Leicester Square: Odeon Leicester Square, Empire and Odeon West End, welcoming an audience of more than 4,000.
– Tickets to the World Premiere will be on sale Sept. 14 at www.londonschristmascarol.com.
– The World Premiere is in support of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children; Dickens was a founding patron of the facility.
