Earlier this morning, ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ shared a sneak peek at the upcoming ‘Table Read’ bonus feature from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, available to own on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1, and on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5. Unfortunately there’s not actually much to the sneak peek, but it does feature a voiceover from director JJ Abrams introducing it, as well as a snippet of video.
Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey, a feature-length documentary will have its world premiere during the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW®), being held in Austin, Texas, March 11-19, 2016. The documentary, a bonus feature on the upcoming Digital HD and Blu-ray Combo Pack release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is an inside look at the making of this epic movie, revealed through in-depth footage and exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers.
In support of today’s official announcement regarding the Blu-ray and Digital releases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has also provided us with two ultra high resolution stills featuring Kylo Ren taking on Rey in their epic battle as well as Rey, BB-8 and Finn aboard the Millennium Falcon. The new stills have been added to the beginning of our already immense gallery of high resolution stills.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattered box office records upon its debut to become the cinematic event of a generation with over $926 million domestic and $2 billion worldwide. Confirming an earlier report by Stitch Kingdom, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Iger at The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders today announced the epic movie will be available to own early on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1, and coming home on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on April 5.
Ahead of any impending official announcement, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has solidly confirmed an April 5, 2016 release date for the Blu-ray edition of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The news initially came to our attention via Disney Store who has updated their listing to include the new date, although they do not list any bonus features. In our experience, when Disney Store lists an ‘expected by’ date, it’s pretty solid as far as release dates.
Several days ago, we noted on Twitter that Walmart had begun accepting pre-orders for Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a dummy release date of 12/31/16. While we accept that Walmart may do this type of pre-order often, we rarely see them do so with Disney titles without a semi-solid release date. Apparently their system can’t handle the ability to accept pre-orders without a release date like Amazon does and given that the title is such a hot seller, we can’t argue the temptation.
Granted she sits quite higher up in the chain of command than FN-2187 — chastised for removing a much more revealing piece of Stormtrooper armor — but should Captain Phasma really be casting any stones? It has been noted by a few that it very much appears that in this still from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Phasma (admittedly standing the background, keeping an eye on General Hux and Kylo Ren in this original image) has shed her right gauntlet.
Although we typically tend to stop sharing stills once a film is released, it probably goes unsaid that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is not your typical fare. As it is poised to trample Avatar at the box office any minute now to become the top grossing film of all time, Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm have once again graced us with hi-res images from the film, some of which recently appeared in Entertainment Weekly, but now appear here in high resolution and watermark free. The new stills, over 20 in all, have been added to the beginning of our gallery embedded below.
