‘The Lone Ranger’ Starts Filming with Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer
Production has commenced on location in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado on Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ epic adventure The Lone Ranger. The film reunites the filmmaking team of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean blockbusters — producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski — with Johnny Depp, who created Captain Jack Sparrow in his iconic, Academy Award®-nominated performance and contributed the voice of the title character of Verbinski’s Academy Award-winning Rango.
Depp plays spirit warrior Tonto in The Lone Ranger, with Armie Hammer (The Social Network, J. Edgar) starring in the title role. Depp and Hammer are joined by a prestigious international cast which includes Tom Wilkinson, two-time Academy Award nominee (Michael Clayton, In the Bedroom) and Golden Globe® and Emmy® winner (‘John Adams’); William Fichtner (Jerry Bruckheimer’s productions of Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down); Emmy Award-winner Barry Pepper (TV’s The Kennedys,’ True Grit, Saving Private Ryan); James Badge Dale (The Grey, TV’s ‘The Pacific’ and ‘Rubicon’); Ruth Wilson (television’s ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘Luther’); and two-time Academy Award nominee and six-time Golden Globe nominee Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech, Alice in Wonderland).
The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
The Lone Ranger is written by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio of Pirates of the Caribbean, Eric Aronson and Justin Haythe. The executive producers are Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio, Eric Ellenbogen and Eric McLeod.
Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski are joined by a remarkable team of behind-the-scenes artists, including director of photography Bojan Bazelli (Verbinski’s The Ring, Mr. and Mrs. Smith); visual consultant Mark ‘Crash’ McCreery (production designer of Verbinski’s Rango); costume designer Penny Rose (Pirates of the Caribbean films); film editor James Haygood (Panic Room, Fight Club); visual effects supervisor Tim Alexander (“Rango,” three “Harry Potter” films); Academy Award®-winning special effects supervisor John Frazier, a 10-time nominee whose previous collaborations with Jerry Bruckheimer have included Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and, with Verbinski as well, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End; and stunt coordinator Tommy Harper (Iron Man, Iron Man 2).
The Lone Ranger will film exteriors and studio work in New Mexico, followed by locations in Arizona, Utah and Colorado and is slated to open on May 31, 2013.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Clips: ‘The Mutiny’ with Blackbeard and ‘Kings Men’
As if the first look at Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father, Captain Teague, in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides wasn’t enough news today, we now get treated to our second clip from the upcoming summer blockbuster from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer.
This time around, it’s the film’s introduction of the ruthless Blackbeard, the pirate all pirates fear, portrayed by Ian McShane. Finding himself on board the Queen Anne’s Revenge courtesy of former flame and daughter of Blackbeard, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) decides that the best course of action would be staging a mutiny, a tactic he all too familiar with (albeit generally on the other end). That is, until the Captain decides to weigh in on the matter.
… ‘I can name fingers and point names.’
In the next clip, ‘King’s Men,’ Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), now a member of the British Royal Navy, informs his appointed crew, including Mr. Gibbs, that they are headed for Whitecap Bay in search of mermaids. Which of course is bound to entice any sailor, no?
In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (May 20), Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on an unexpected journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth when a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Clip: ‘Palace Escape’
Debuted exclusively by Yahoo! Movies, this clip from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides titled ‘Palace Escape,’ picks up early in the film where Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself at the hands of Britan’s King George II and former ship-mate Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) who has opted to join the British Royal Navy in their expedition. Sparrow, who is in fact guilty of being guilty of being Jack Sparrow, manages to find a way out of the situation, true-to-form, all the while managing to rescue a puff pastry that managed to find its way into the chandelier just prior.

Photos: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Penelope Cruz Receives Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Earlier today, actress Penelope Cruz, who takes on the role of Blackbeard’s daughter, Angelica, in Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides (May 20, 2011) was honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce when she was awarded her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On hand to celebrate were co-star Johnny Depp, who referred to Cruz as ‘the Ricky to my Lucy,’ film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Rob Marshall and Cruz’s husband, Javier Bardem.
An Academy Award® winner, Penelope Cruz has proven herself to be one of the most versatile actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters, and most recently, becoming the first actress from Spain to be nominated and to win an Oscar®.
First introduced to American audiences in the Spanish films Jamon, Jamon and Belle Epoque, in 1998 she starred in her first English language film, The Hi-Lo Country for director Stephen Frears opposite Woody Harrelson, Patricia Arquette and Billy Crudup. In 1999, Cruz won the Best Actress award at the 13th Annual Goya Awards given by the SpanishAcademy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for her role in Fernando Trueba’s The Girl of Your Dreams.
Confirming her status as an international actress, Cruz landed a series of coveted roles. She appeared in Billy Bob Thornton’s All the Pretty Horses, Fina Torres’ Woman on Top, Alejandro Amenabar’s Open Your Eyes, and Maria Ripoli’s Twice Upon a Yesterday. Additionally, Cruz co-starred in Pedro Almodovar’s Live Flesh and the critically acclaimed All About My Mother, which was awarded the Golden Globe® and Oscar® for Best Foreign Film.
Next up for Cruz was a role opposite Pirates co-star Johnny Depp in Blow for director Ted Demme and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin opposite Nicolas Cage, followed by starring opposite Tom Cruise in Cameron Crowe’s thriller Vanilla Sky. She then tackled Masked & Anonymous, Fan Fan la Tulipe (which opened the 2003 Cannes Film Festival) and Don’t Tempt Me. She received rave reviews for her performance in Don’t Move (Non ti Muovere) in which she was honored with a David Di Donatello Award (Italian Oscar) and the European Film Award for Best Actress.
To add to her already diverse choice of film credits, she starred in films including Gothika, Head in the Clouds, and Sahara. In 2006, Cruz starred in Volver, which again teamed her with director and dear friend Pedro Almodovar. Critically-acclaimed for her role as Raimunda, she won the Best Actress awards at the European Film Awards, the Spanish Goya Awards, the Cannes Film Festival, and received both Golden Globe® and Oscar® nominations.
Her recent credits include Elegy opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona opposite Javier Bardem and Scarlet Johansson. Cruz won an Oscar®, a BAFTA, a New York Film Critics Circle and a National Board of Review award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
In 2009, Cruz and Almodovar were back in action for the fourth time with Broken Embraces, for which she again received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Lena. Also that year, she teamed up with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall for the first time and starred alongside Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard in the film version of the musical Nine. Her standout portrayal of Carla garnered Screen Actors Guild®, Golden Globe® and Academy Award® nominations. Her third Oscar® nomination made history as it marked only the third time in Oscar history where the winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress was nominated for the same award again in the following year.
Cruz is involved in the following charities: Worldwide (RED) campaign lead by Bono and Bobby Shiver, Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti (APJ), UNICEF The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). She had the honor of working with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity; volunteering in a leprosy clinic in India and she also worked with the Dalai Lama for the House of Tibet in Spain.
